A beginners guide to buying a thermal scope or spotter, how to compare and narrow down the choices

Ғылым және технология

Thinking about getting into thermal hunting then this video is for you, we go over all the numbers and try to answer all the most commonly asked questions people have when starting out in thermal as a beginner. I'll try to explain what you should be looking for and help you narrow down the choices to make your decision a lot easier. I'll also give you the tools needed to compare different scopes across all the brands to help you see what the differences are so you can make an informed choice when purchasing a thermal scope. Demo footage displayed from Pulsar, Night Tech, HIKMICRO and InfIray. Hopefully this will help answer some of the most asked questions, What Thermal Do I Buy? How do I choose one? What are the differences? What is the cost?

I installed this optic on a crossman 760 air rifle.I have now shot the riffle around 500 times during target/plinking practice, and the kzread.infoUgkxc4K63Fd5LglDMObu7-Bgapxp_ef0W8hE scope has done well. With this optic, I have neutralized around 30 pigeons that were invading one of my buildings. For my short range air rifle, I will continue to use this scope, but will be upgrading to a more powerful scope, when I buy a more powerful air rifle, in order to shoot at longer distance. For the money I have spent, this scope has truly been a great buy.

Damn this guy is good! Great video. I agree with your early on statement that having a thermal spotter to detect, then switch over to your rifle that has a night vision scope. I have this configuration now, as in the past, I sold my night vision scope and bought a thermal. I thought it was a huge mistake, as night vision is superior at identification I found. I then sold my thermal, re-purchased a night vision and bought a thermal spotter for detection only.

Interesting comment. I’ve been thinking the same after watching thermal shooting videos, I’d rather spot with thermal then switch to nv when in range. What NV did you end up getting second time around?

@@MrBHuntingDownUnder What do you think of a thermal monocular & a night vision rifle scope, say a Sightron Wraith HD for about 1.1K it seems much cheaper than having a thermal monocular & rifle scope. From what I can see unless you are using a 6-7K thermal scope the night vision image is much clearer as far as target identification goes. This setup seems to be what most fox shooters use in the UK. What are your thoughts?

@@philipmayers5785 Hi Philip, night vision scope and thermal spotter is definitely a combo I see a lot of. A lot of people can’t afford to drop the money on both and yes they can do a great final ID, I see a lot of torches being upgraded for greater viewing distance. Only downside I have seen, was flare up from grass and from the muzzle flash, goes white for a second after your shot. I can’t comment on the wraith as I have only used pulsar night vision stuff but it’s definitely a path worth exploring.

Hey Werner, I am currently waiting for the Axion 2 LRF to come into stock so I haven't laid eyes on it yet, but the Helion will be better picture, but it also doesn't have a range finder, so you probably need to decide if you want a range finder, if so, then Axion, if not then how nice a picture do you want, and how much are you willing to spend? Both will do the job so this will be personal preference and a budget decision. Both are 2.5x base mag, axion is more compact if that matters to you.
