A BEAUTIFUL DNF (OR IS IT???) (aka What is a DNF?)

Hello there again. I love going Geocaching on hikes in the woods and one of my favorite places is my local county park. Soon, I will have cached the place out. BUT there have been some that were archived so I might have to place a few. There is room for more either way so I will be doing that soon.
So, when is a DNF not a DNF? Is it a DNF if you never even make it to ground zero or when you call off your hunt for safety concerns? I generally don't log a DNF unless I make it to GZ and search for it. This is not the first time I stopped my journey to GZ because I was concerned about safety. But I went back for that one and I will be back with this one too! (Might see if my buddy John will join me for this one.)

Another reason why I love geocaching in nature - I don't have to wear a mask!

I agree with Elmo, if you didn't make it to the cache, it's not a DNF. If you got to GZ and tried but couldn't find it, then that would be a DNF.

Glad you agree. I think a DNF log is absolutely meant for GZ. I have seen dnf log entries for situations like this where people don't get to gz. I will maybe write a note but not a DNF.

@@GeoScouter117 Note sounds best for this situation.

That's a nice park. I personally wouldn't log a DNF on a cache if I didn't actually make it to the cache and give it a try. You did a DNT - did not try.

Yeah, DNT is right. But i will go back for it when I am better prepared for that trail. I love this park. And you know, l might think about a small documentary type series about it. That sounds like fun.

This little trail gets a little tricky, and I didn't feel prepared enough this time to safely make it to ground zero. To me, that's not a DNF. What do you think?
