    First. Only Tom Hanks could have played him. Second. When Roger's passed. A quarter of the world's politeness went also. The man was truly a good person.

    I was bawling my eyes out when I saw this trailer. Mr. Rogers raised me. I loved him with all of my heart, he was basically my dad when my own father wasn’t there. And after my mom passed, I looked up to him even more when I was a teen, he will forever be my dad. I use to say “Hi, dad!” When he walked through that door. I’m 26 years old, a combat veteran for the U.S. Army, and I promise you that I will cry when I watch this movie about my dad...

    That ending scene was so perfect. A New York City subway packed with people in a dense metro area. And they all recognize him and start singing, including the police officers in the background. That one scene alone perfectly encapsulates the shared humanity within us all which Fred Rogers nurtured.

    Unfortunately today’s Mr Rogers would be a non-white, morbidly obese, transgendered, race baiting, SJW child molesting, feminist. I’m glad this movie was made. I’m reminded of how kind I felt the world was during my childhood. I wasn’t full of rage or anxiety, while there was chaos in the world, the 80’s and 90’s just seemed calmer and more respectful. I saw color but had a healthy curiosity about others, I wanted to learn, I was happy to teach, I welcomed connection because of shows like this. Mr. Rogers was a staple of good nature. I cried during the trailer and feel very fortunate to grow up when I did.

    I wouldn't say it takes guts, but a particular kind of soul or spirit or strength. I'm both nihilistic and pessimistic and I admire more than anything people that can look at the world and remain kind and optimistic. I always think of Mr. Roger's "look for the helpers" story. I think it's one of the loveliest things I've ever heard and yet I still can't help the attitude that the helpers wouldn't have to be there if we weren't so terrible.

    In this age of incivility, Fred Rogers represents what people could and should act like towards each other. The world would be a better place and is a better place because a person like Fred Rogers was around. My kids loved him and so did I and my wife. Fred Rogers, thank you and I hope there is an afterlife so the souls you meet there will benefit from your presence.

    One of my best memories as a kid back in the early 2000’s was watching this every afternoon with my grandma. She passed away last month. I watched the movie for the first time last night and it really helped me bring back good memories and get my head in the right place. She died in a similar way that the main character’s mother did and it helped heal a lot of pain for me.

At the time I didn't know much about Mr. Rogers but I've watched some of his stuff since and man what an incredible guy. I hope wherever he is and whatever he may be doing he's happy. It makes me happier knowing that my daughter and her adopted family watch Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood together as well. When my daughter was 6 months old her mom sent me a picture of her sitting up in front of the TV watching Mr. Rogers and "talking" to him in that adorable baby babble they do lol ❤️

Since he was on TV for many years, he influenced the last 40-50 years of children's earliest memories. Those kids are now adults. Just came back from seeing movie I thought... Love Mr Rogers and Tom Hanks and I knew going in that I'd probably shed tears. What I didn't know is that it was like my story... My father is dying... anger and sadness has accompanied me through his journey with Parkinson's He is almost at the end of his journey I feel like I was meant to see this movie Just yesterday...I saw my dad and this sense of sadness washed over me I am no longer angry with the things he's done to me and my siblings Even in heaven...Mr Rogers is helping me cope. Thank you for this movie It was tough to watch..almost had to excuse myself ...but I am grateful for it at the same time ❤

    @@melissasmith6762 Because a lot of people came from shitty childhoods and the only good and pure example they had was Mr. Rogers on PBS. He was a guiding light in a world of darkness, and an example that good did exist, even if it didn't in *your* neighborhood. For many he was a father figure, a teacher, or a mentor (for some all that rolled up in one). There were, and still are, plenty of wonderful and good people out there, but Mr. Rogers reach through the media at that time period combined with the fact he was that genuine in real life allowed him to touch a far wider group of people than the average person. (But yes, there are some people that go entirely overboard with hyperbole, especially online, because that's what people do online; become extreme about everything, whether it be positive or negative...)

  • @darkwyve

    @darkwyve

    5 жыл бұрын

    @@melissasmith6762 Perhaps you don't understand the stretch and longevity of Mr. Rogers. Reading Rainbow was great, but you are talking about a show that had only 155 episodes, starting in 1983 and ran til 2006, while in comparison Mr. Rogers began back in 1968 to 2001 and had a whopping 912 episodes. The consistent episodes for over 30 years, obviously reached several generations instead of just a single one, hence more followers of it. Plus Reading Rainbow was a great learning show, but Mr. Rogers was more than just academic learning, it was trying to teach you about life itself. Mr. Rogers didn't shy away from tough topics (divorce, racism, death), and didn't treat the viewers (children) like they were stupid. He took the time to kindly explain things in ways that anyone could understand and appreciate. always talking *to* the children, not down to them... He took the time back then (which didn't happen like it does with the interactive generation of today) to interact with children, read their letters they sent and responded, and even adjusted some things due to their feedback. (One example, there was a blind girl who listened to the show, and she was worried he wasn't feeding his fish he sometimes mentioned, so he proceeded to narrate every episode after that aloud that he was feeding the fish when he did it, so that girl would know they were okay.) I could go on with other examples, but you should get the point from what I've written above, and this post is already absurdly long...
