7:57 this was Sonny Bill Williams attempt at taking G.I down. SBW is one of the biggest heavy hitters in Rugby, so seeing him fail was a shock but not entirely bcs this is G.I who we're talking abt, who is also a beast that even 3 people struggle to take down. That was an iconic try (touchdown for NFL viewers). The international team that Greg Inglis played for is Australia: Dark Green and Gold jersey. The Maroon jersey is Queensland, which is one of the state's of Australia, like in the U.S there's California, Arizona, Texas ect. Any other jersey you see is teams/clubs that he played for in NRL, like NFL there's 49ers, Ravens ect. The rules are kinda simple, in offense/attack you can pass the ball to your teammate unlimited times but it has to be in line with your shoulder or behind, not forward bcs than it'll be a turnover. You can kick the ball however you want, like squibble kick, chip kick, bomb or punt but your teammates have to be onside with the kicker if they're going to attempt to get the ball to continue the play for a try (touchdown) or tackle the opposing team who are now attacking. You can also kick it for yourself to retrieve it and it'll still be part of the play. In attack or offense each team has 5 chances unless a penalty or turnover happens. A turnover will happen when in attack you pass the ball forward to your teammate or drop the ball on the ground directly infront of you and a penalty ofc. When you score a try (touchdown) you have to place the ball on the line or over onto the turf not just body. You can also score a point by kicking a field goal at anytime when attacking. It's kinda like chess you never know what the offense will throw but you have to be ready at any moment. Like sometimes they'll randomly kick the ball on the 2nd play yet they still 3 more chances to attack. Once you get tackled, you'll see them stand up and roll the ball with their foot behind to their teammate who's already waiting to begin a new play, a chance to attack again. Defense is just simple, stay onside with the ref, tackle anywhere below the shoulder area, no lifting the opponent upside down where their legs go above their head and no shoulder charging. A lot of these are pretty exaggerated now tho lol. Hope some of this helps 🤙🏽

Aussie here , great content my friend.💥 12:13 those are attempts at stopping a try(score) , and Greg in majority of his career is a fullback- a position stationed at the back of a teams defence as a last resort (this position is important as it is reserved for a defensive leader with a good iq, fast feet and can playmake a little) You ask about the kicks. They can kick the ball whenever they want during their turn on offence( just like a basketball shotclock, rugby is similar because each team has 5 tackles to get a score/try) A tackle is when a defender basically keeps a player stationary on the ground with the ball in the player's hands. During these set of 5 tackles a team with the rock can kick it anytime. To catch the ball that is kicked off a teammate you have to be behind him when he kicked it otherwise it is turnover called 'offside' . Same with passes. If you wanna know what greg is like. Picture a slighlty more social then kawhi leonard. Youll find him at his loudest when hes playing the game. Thats why its always exciting to watch him explode 💯 Thanks for putting him in some light.

Indeed. Its an attempt to stop a try. The ball has to touch the turf in some capacity for it to be a try. The defenders job (greg) is to prevent the ball hitting the ground. This becomes a no try. Play is stopped and ball is taken back to the 10 metre line for another play..provided the attacking team has not used up their 5 tackles

For your question about recovering the ball from a kick- On offense, you can recover the ball from a kick if you are behind the kicker when the ball is kicked... And you question about the fumble - he actually stopped the try, because a player has to plant the ball on the ground for the try to be counted. He turned the player on his back and cradled the ball stopping the try.. Great player.

When you were asking for the name of the (Red) team, it was Queensland (a state, not city) versus New South Wales (a state as well). Which would be a little like the NFL playing a North versus South in a special series, separate to the normal club games. Some would might compare the NFC vs AFC Pro Bowl game, but it aint. Queensland versus New South Wales is a very serious game and normally the best from this series is selected for the Australian National Team.

Subbed Mate! Regarding kicking, You can't pass the ball forward with your hands so you can kick the ball forward instead. Sometimes you kick the ball forward as far as you can in order to gain territory (Much like the NFL) but you also kick the ball over or through the defensive line, so a player can run forward and catch it. It's essentially a way of moving the ball forward because you can't pass forward with your hands. Great reaction Bro, hope you watch the season thats just started. you'll love watchin' full matches i guarantee!

9:30 that is called a chip kick. We utilise a few different kick plays in rugby as attacking weapons, particularly in league where you are required to kick after your 5th tackle set (equivalent to a 4th down). The chip kick is a low and somewhat short kick, designed to be put over the top of the defensive line, not allowing the enough time to turn and defuse the kick.

Aussie girl here He played for the Melbourne Storms (My team) when he is wearing the white and purple shirt or the full purple shirt. Then he played for the South Sydney Rabittohs when he is in the green shirt. When he is wearing the maroon shirt he is playing for Queensland in the State Of Origin which is like the Superbowl of Australia NRL. The other team in the state of origin is NSW in blue. The state of origin is only played between Queensland and NSW and it is the battle to see who is the better state. Bragging rights and state pride is at stake. We take it very seriously. He was born and raised and played football in NSW but represents for the opposing side Queensland. He also represented Australia in the world football league.

9:45 That play is called a "chip and chase". If the team trying to tackle you moves up in an impenetrable line, you can kick over their heads and retrieve the ball. The player who kicks it can retrieve the ball, but his teammates can only chase it and retrieve it IF they are BEHIND the player who kicks the ball when he kicks it. The defence are running forward, a kick over their heads makes them turn around and run to where the ball will land, which gives the attacking team the advantage, as they don't have to stop and turn around. Dangerous play, as the defence can retrieve the ball, and your team loses possession.

The National Rugby League season runs from March through to September. Greg Inglis played for the Melbourne Storm from 2005 to 2010, then the South Sydney Rabbitohs from 2011-2019 then retired due to injuries. I think he is back playing now in the English Super League for Warrington Wolves. Melbourne Storm have been one of the top teams in the past 20 years so worth watching them. Here is a link for a very basic description of rugby league and base rules/plays (this is from someone in England, some terms may change in Australia) kzread.info/dash/bejne/qHqrqtZ_esTYmKg.html

11:30 These are defensive plays where Inglis stopped the other player from scoring a try. This particular one, the attacking player needing to touch the ball down in the corner but G.I held his body off the ground. As the attacking player fought himself to the ground G.I stripped the ball from him, fumbled it, saw it going out of bounds, dived to save it and managed to bat the ball back in to his team mates to secure possession for his team. After that, it is just a series of his try saving tackle moments because in order to score in rugby, the player must force the ball down inside the end zone so if the defender can keep the ball off the ground, no try can be awarded.

At the NRL club Level he played for Melbourne storms and then moved over to South Sydney Rabbitohs. The best players of the Queenland state and NEW south Wales complete in the State of Origin which he wore the Maroons jumper, which is three games in a year. That's another level higher than the club level, it consists of the best players in the competition. Inglis is a super at the level as well. The season started 8 weeks ago. This weekend is the 8th round.

Born NSW but began his football career in QL so played for QL in state of origin. NRL teams Melbourne, South Sydney. Rep teams Queensland, Australia. You’re allowed to kick ahead for yourself/other players if they’re behind you at time of kick. Ball has to make contact with ground, if not it’s held up and come out ten metres for restart of play. America has a team in the World Cup.

That play you keep seeing with the kick is called a "bomb". Any player on the defending team (team without the ball before the kick) can attempt to gain possession of the ball, and any player on the attacking team (team with the ball before the kick) that was BEHIND the kicker can also attempt to gain possession of the ball. It is most often used at the end of a "set or six" (the number of times the attacking team can be tackled and made to play the ball before having to had over possession to the other team) when near to the opposition goal line to get behind the defensive line and create opportunities to score. Most of that applies to both Rugby Union and Rugby League (the code of Rugby which Greg Inglis played), save for the "set of six" which is specific to Rugby League.

No, it would be Snowy Baker. From Wiki: Baker excelled at a number of sports, winning New South Wales swimming and boxing championships while still a teenager. Playing rugby union for Eastern Suburbs, he played several games for New South Wales against Queensland, and in 1904 represented Australia in two Test matches against Great Britain.[1] At the 1908 London Olympics, Baker represented Australasia in swimming and diving, as well as taking part in the middleweight boxing event, in which he won a silver medal.[2] He also excelled in horsemanship, water polo, running, rowing and cricket". "Polo, water polo, cricket and diving, and proficient in surfing, fencing, hockey, rowing, yachting and equestrian events". He was an actor, a movie stuntman, and arguably the greatest all-round athlete of all time. Baker is the only Australian athlete to complete in three separate sports at the Olympic Games, and he did it all at the same Olympics. He excelled in every one of the 26 sports he attempted, achieving International status in whatever he did.

in rugby league you are given a "set with 6 plays" after your "5th play" you can either kick the ball to gain yardage or you can kick to your attacking players to give them an opportunity to score. You can also run the ball on the 5th play if you do not wish to kick. You are also allowed to kick the ball on any other plays as well if it is the right option for the team. You can also kick a field goal to score 1 point between the goal posts during a set of 6 or on the 5th play, to do this you must kick a "drop kick". Meaning the ball must drop on the ground before kicking it,

My man! Love that more Americans becoming fans of our great game. Ill break down some basic terms and differences between Rugby League and Rugby Union, hope you see this comment.! Rugby League is mostly played in Australia, England and New Zealand. Rugby Union is a world game which New Zealand all blacks dominate. New Zealand have a team apart of the NRL (National Rugby League) they are called the warriors. And are the only NZ team in the AUS comp. Rugby Union and Rugby League are often differentiated by the using rugby for the union game or just saying League for Rugby League Rugby use a "RUCK" which is competed by both teams to keep possession of the ball after every tackle, there is no limit on numbers of times tackled with possession. League you get 5 tackles. In League the defensive line must retire 10 metres or they are OFFSIDE. This and the ruck are the major differences in the versions of Rugby and is what makes league more exciting, often harder hitting and faster. There are also less stoppages and rules in League and Union can be rather boring at times. League uses the term Ruck to describe the same area of the field however possession is uncontested. The player will then roll the ball backwards using his foot while standing. That is called a "PLAY THE BALL You will hear the term " Near the play the ball" to describe the ruck area also Dropping the ball forward will result in change of possession this is called a "KNOCK ON' loosing control of the football backwards is okay and is "PLAY ON" in both versions on the game Kicks can be used like forward passes, all passes must go backwards, hence why loosing control of the football forwards is an error and not backwards. Stiff Arming is called "PALMING" your spot on with "INTERCEPT" a Juke is called a "STEP" a "FIELD GOAL" or "DROP GOAL" is made when a player kicks the ball through the post in normal possession of the ball however the ball must hit the ground first before kicking. (google Rugby League best drop kicks/ drop goals) some of them will blow your mind. There is no term for kicking to a team mate. High Kicks are called BOMBS and often used to force an errors. Kicks in Play often on the "FIFTH AND LAST" must bounce first before going "INTO TOUCH" which is your "OUT OF BOUNDS". kickers and halves will often look to "FIND TOUCH" to gain field position and slow the game down. That may be a flood of information n shit so ill cut here but the red jersey Greg Inglis was wearing is the Queensland jersey. This is a rep team. New South Wales and Queensland (the only parts of Australia that where Rugby League is more popular then AFL or "Australian Football" ) face off once a year in a best of 3 where the best players are picked based on where they grew up playing. This is called the "STATE OF ORIGIN" series and is probably no bullshit the biggest rivarly in world sports. These are no question the toughest, fastest most intense games and the biggest stage in Rugby League. Its a bigger deal then playing for your country. Think NFC v AFC on steriods. Anytime you find yourself in AUS bro hit me up ill be glad to take anyone to a game, or hola if you wanna message me and get to know anything in depth my man. Hope this helps.

He was the best Nrl player of all time no one comes close. He started his career at melbouene storm (purple and white shirt) then went to South Sydney the red and black and green and then when he's in the maroon shirt that is state of origin, best players for state of QLD play the best players from NSW. GI is the leading try scorer of all time in origin He played for Qld despite being born in NSW. He retired quiet young after 10 years due to bad injuries and major mental health issues and depression. He know dedicates his life to raising awareness with mental health and support in his indigenous community he's actually an indigenous Australian he's aboriginal. They make very good rugby league players. Check out Cody walker and latrell Mitchell two current south Sydney player's from the same club Inglis retired from they are also both awesome freaks...no one comes close to Gregg Inglis and never will he was an absolute freak. Fast, athlete, huge, strong agile and the best fend which is when he flicks the opposition off with his hand, carried the ball like he would never drop it and never did and u couldn't catch him...like a men amongst boys and they are some of the best defenders who couldn't touch him

GI started off his career at the Melbourne Storm (Purple) and then shifted to South Sydney Rabbitohs (Green and Red) then there are mid season representative teams you can make aswell just like AFC vs NFC, ours is called State Of Origin, between Queensland (Maroon jerseys) and New South Wales (Sky Blue jerseys). And then you have your international teams aswell at the end of the NRL season (Green and Gold also Blue and Maroon jerseys). The punts they do to themselves are like QBs throwing to receivers, aslong as they’re behind the kicker before the kick is made, then they’re onside and able to contest for the ball. Btw, awesome reaction bro...you got a new sub all the way from Brisbane Australia 🔥 keep’em coming uso ✊🏾

The season runs between February to the first weekend of October for the Grand Final. There are also some representative matches between Australia and New Zealand national teams and also the State of Origin games between players from New South Wales (Blues) and Queensland (Maroons). The State of Origin is known as ‘State against State, Mate against Mate’ because the players on each team do not not normally on the same team. You can have people from a team who come from both states, now playing against each other.

  • @seankng
    @seankng3 жыл бұрын

A bit about Greg Inglis for you, hope it helps: he's playing in England right now but these are highlights all from during his Australia (nrl) days with a few clubs as well as at rep level with state/country: purple is Melbourne Storm (club) green/red/white is South Sydney Rabbitohs (club) green/gold is Australia (national) maroon is Queensland (state) This is from the annual 3 game series between New South Wales and QLD. Best players from each state going at it sort of a bit like your super bowl in some ways in terms of hype and competitiveness. Answering some of your questions: Yes its an intercept you're definitely right, don't see too many of them but they're impressive especially if you got the engine pace to run the length. 9:28: Thats called a 'chip n chase'' kick. We sometimes do it on the last tackle (you get 5) before it goes back to the opposition. By kicking the down the field you give it back to them but they have to work hard to get it back to your end of the field (good field position). When you have someone like Greg Inglis you can create a 1 on 1 situation which still counts as the last tackle you have which often leads to people like him catching it and regaining possession to score. Theres a lot to learn but think about how much of a loss it is if people just miss out on making the NFL by one cut. You need a bit of everything in terms of athleticism and skill like Greg Inglis to be the best though (basically combining NFL positions) since the game is a lot more fast-paced (at the moment) and unstructured (less set plays), more stamina and endurance but its not unachievable in any way. Hope you see this and look forward to the Benji Marshall video !

You can catch a ball that has been kicked by your team-mate, or dive on a ball that they have kicked, as long as you were behind them when that ball was kicked. You can then run forward and get it

There's an all star game coming up for NRL here in Australia. It's on the 27th of June here. That's a Sunday. So that will be 26th of June Saturday for you guys in America. We call it the State of Origin. Basically the best of Queensland (the Maroons) versus the best of New South Wales (the Blues). If you wanna watch a live game. This would be a good one. Plus it's gonna be held in Brisbane (Queensland) which has minimal covid restrictions. So the crowd should be good too. 😊 Lemme know if you get this message. 🤙🏻

Okay so every set on offense has 6 runs (tackles). On the 5th run (after the 5th tackle) and before the 6th tackle which is known in Rugby League as "5th and last" they kick the ball for a 2 or 3 different reasons depending on the position or metres of the runs. 1 reason they could kick it is the try and put in a high distance kick (bomber) close to the try line to attempt to score off the catch. If the offense too far back from the try line, say like 40+ metres, they attempt to put as much distance as they can to the defence's goal line to make it harder to make metres when the defence tries to score. Another kick of the ball, which is more commonly used when the offence are close to the try line (providing they think they can score of their 5th and last tackle) is called a "grubber kick". This kick is a short low kick to send the ball fast into or close to the try line, attempting to make another chance of scoring.

That’s called a ‘chip and chase’ Basically ‘punting’ it as you’d say and regathering. There’s two ways to do it either in the air as you’ve seen or along the ground called a ‘grubbed kick’

"Rugby League" season goes from March to Early October for the finals. Benji Marshall is currently at the tail end of his Career - almost over. Greg Inglis is retired. The Green and Yellow team is the Australian representative team, the Maroon colored team Is Queensland state of Origin team playing against NSW (light Blue), the purple team was Melbourne Storm club team and the green and red team was the south Sydney Rabbitos. The move that intrigued you was the "Chip and Chase," which is where you kick the ball over your opponents head and regather it. If your team mate gets to the ball, they can only regather the ball on the proviso that they were behind the kicker (This means that you are onside),before they contested the ball.

RUGBY AND RUBY LEAGUE ARE TWO DIFFERENT CODES. YOU ARE WATCHING 'RUGBY LEAGUE' One of the best to play. So thankful he came to South Sydney (red & Green) He's so respected and a true legend. To score a try the ball must be placed on the ground. Yes Benji Marshall is also one of our GOATS.... also the lower the number on them the faster they are.

Hi Greg is indigenous man from Bowraville and Kempsey as an Aboriginal person the crawling that Greg does is apart of our Aboriginal culture we people tell stories and dance as apart of culture and Greg was asked by one of his nephew's to do the goanna crawl after he scores a try and Greg realises that the Aboriginal and the non Aboriginal community love him doing the goanna after each try. Aboriginal people mimick all Australian animals when we dance it pays respect to the animals we eat to survive I hope this helps.
