A BAD Day in My Pleco Breeding Operation

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

In this video I talk about a difficult and stressful day I recently had in the fishroom. I fully acknowledge that this pales in comparison to bad days that others have had, though I wanted to share my experiences as I always share the positive sides of my operation, so I felt it only fair to share a negative side as well. If you have any questions at all or are interested in purchasing some of the fish seen in my videos, feel free to email me at FoisyYT@gmail.com and be sure to subscribe to see more amazing pleco videos!

I'm so sorry! I've watched your videos for a long time, and it's clear you're an excellent, responsible fish keeper. How heartbreaking 💔! I appreciate you sharing some of your bad days. It's a reminder it can happen to any of us. After years of breeding and selling BNPs, I had my terrible series of events. A HOB filter had malfunctioned in a 20 long tank leading to an epistylis infection in my juveniles, and it hit FAST, even in a bare-bottom tank with DAILY water changes. I never missed a single day! It killed 100+ fish in a few days even though I tried ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING to save them. Only 6 survived. Sadly, I cross-contaminated the epistylis into my adults tank by sharing a drainage hose. In a day, my adults started dying, with their intestines turning dark, almost black. The epistylis caused massive intestinal infections which killed most of my amazing breeding stock in just a few days. It was a terrible lesson to learn. I had only recently learned about epistylis, and was SHOCKED at how quickly it could kill. I know a lot about epistylis now. Fortunately, I had divided my breeders into multiple tanks, so I had enough to rebuild my population, and I now have a nice batch of super red juveniles right now. Thank you so much for wonderful videos. I hope the days ahead will be happy and productive ones with an abundance of healthy fish.

Ughhhh so sorry to hear about that! Cross contamination can be a real killer for sure. Have you seen the video I did on that topic? I literally have different hose attachments for every tank because of that fear!
