The A-7D is super interesting. It basically was directly replaced by the A-10. Crazy if you consider what the armament options for the two aircraft are when you think about that fact the A-10 was considered it's successor.

@@CharliMorganMusic Pretty much. A-10 is heavily outdated and it shows. Not to mention the survivability against an actual country with proper air defence and and air force would be close to zero.

@@lesaustion Looking back at it I could've made it more fitting to American history. Bringing a breachloader against a bow. Great until that bow is a lever action

having served in A-7E's for 10 years, I have to say this aircraft was build from another age....all the underside was armored making every access panel a heck lot heavier. The bulkhead behind the pilot was also something like 2 inch thick. Being nuclear attackers and all they had some extra perks. Also the bombing computer was supposed to be a state of the art Inertial System with deviation of max 10 meters during whole flight. This kind of IRS did not appeared outside of US armed forces for some decades....

@@nerdasaurus9358 The longer range on the 9gs is kinda helpful on a slower jet like this for getting a sneaky kill or two on fast planes that could outrun a j launched at these speeds, but yea. For air id still take the A-7D just because of the lower BR. Did this thing need the +0.3 over the other version? Mabye for CAS with the walleyes in GRB or something (don't play tanks past like 4.0), but not for ARB as its basically the same plane.

the advanced weaponry is actually basically *only* useful during the day, unless you're just using the thermal viewer to spot targets and attacking it with dumb ordinance. Other than that, both Mavericks and Walleyes can't track anything at night. On the French and British Jaguars however, targets can be locked and tracked at night because the laser designator pod is actually what's directing the bomb/missile, not the missile itself.

@@Mungobohne1 Are you sure it was a proper night battle and not just evening? Bullpups and Walleyes use purely optical TV guidance, which means that at night there's just not enough light for them to track anything. Do you see targets in thermal vision with the AJ37? Because otherwise it's not possible for a TV guided weapon to track targets at night.

The main reason the A-7E wasn't given Mavericks as far as I can tell is because the Navy only adopted the AGM-65F nearing the end of the A-7E Corsair's service and never fitted it. The Navy's A-7E was never meant to carry the AGM-65A, B, C, or D models and was actually used instead to carry AGM-88 HARMs. However because those have yet to be added to the game because of Gaijin's reluctance to add anti-radiation missiles at the present, I would suppose this to be the reason. As far as I've been able to research it wouldn't be infeasible to have made them Maverick capable but there was no need for the Navy as that was not their goal during the Gulf War.

A7e is one of my favorate planes and I really want it in WT

That’s very odd. The LANA FLIR pod was *not* slewable like a targeting pod. It was purely a fixed pod that had its live feed projected onto the HUD for improved night attack ability.

Would love a dcs variant of either the A7 or F8

Both are in development! The A-7 actually seems more-or-less close! The A-7 is being made by Flying Iron Simulations, and the F-8 by Magnitude 3.

This is a beautyfull plane.

In current situation you dont even get to bomb as the fighters intercept you before making to bombsites or and ground targets.

The A7-E is hands down the best AAA killer for ground RB. Upon spawn you can pull a vertical and can send off your bombs at the enemy AAA at around 9km. With a liberal application of chaff you can dip out of SAM range before the missiles get to you. Meanwhile most SPAA drivers will just sit still and wait for your bombs to land because they struggle to move their mouse and breathe at the same time. It´s biggest weakness however are nightbattles because even though you have thermal sights the Walleyes do not and they wont track onto anything even with the battlefield flares coming down. However, I have found that if you get sufficiently close, the Walleyes to Track on moving targets. It is very rare though and I would not be surprised if its a bug or the bombs lock on to the decoration bushes present.

I include cas footage in some of my reviews. Most of my ground trees aren't as high as my air trees, so it can be difficult/tedious to get good cas footage with some of the top tier stuff.

You shouldn't mind the lack of mavericks. Gaijin nerfed them to where you have to use them like walleye's lol

Can you use the thermal targeting pod to lock and release the Walleye bombs? I find its super finicky and hard to know if the bombs are actually tracking the tank or the ground next to it. Thanks.

No because the walleye has to use its own camera to track the target. The pod can only be used go spot targets

Love this plane, but only in air sim cuz it gets absolutely dunked on after they removed air spawn and it’s radar, it’s a very nice aircraft to fly in sim especially the targeting pod with incredible zoom I’ll still pick this over the A-10 even though most people prefer the A-10

woah woah woah.... why dies yours have a radar when mine never had. I got mine around the time this came out so whats up?

Sucks being a console player since the game just won’t let me use the guided bomb camera. A bug that’s been in the game for over 4 months and still hasn’t been fixed.

"and for some reason does not get the mavericks the A-7D has" the reason is the simple fact that the USN did not buy any and created their own maverick with the AGM-65F that maverick however was not fitted to the A-7E until way later also, the F is a maverick with thermal seeker

how did you set up the bombs to drop the right number? i know theres a setting for it just not how to use it. saw you in game a couple hours ago btw youre a cool guy surprised to see you get a gun kill in the a5c

Alternatively you can set up the ripple fire commands, which allow you to adjust the launch amount between set amounts (2,4,8,16, and continuous: labeled as[s]) on the fly ingame with that key then drop with the normal bomb/rocket key.

The A7's aren't to hard to get too if You are up in the Rank 5/6 area The Harrier i don't think has Changed its End of line RP Requirements of when it was the final plane of the US Attackers so Kinda good and kinda bad as it gives you larger research bonus's when you complete Research lines

I managed to get to the A21RB, J28 and J/A29 F2P a long time ago by mainly playing arcade as I wasn’t great at realistic. The J21s are amazing in arcade, borderline OP, but aren’t that good in realistic. The T18B (57) can be a fun plane for realistic because you can go bomber hunting in what is essentially a heavy fighter with a bomber spawn.

How do you drop half your bombs at once? Using ripple mode I can only get 2/4/8 etc..

He's using bomb series instead of ripple. It lets you select an amount on the menu at spawn and drops with a separate key unlike ripple which has a key to chose amount and drops with the normal fire/release button.

This plane sounds like a ton of fun to me. The issue being, I don't have anything past the first jets in the USA tree. Oh well.

Well, really a big part of the reason I do some of these reviews of the higher-tier jets is to help people figure out which ones they want to work towards. Considering how bad of a grind it can be sometimes, it REALLY sucks to work your ass off to grind out a vehicle only to find out that you dont like it ....

What males me frustrated is how many usless filler vehicles now bloat the trees, and how sometimes they just add stff in places that make no sense in hell so you gotta start a whole new line to unlock it. \I dont know about in game but from what i recall in real aircraft the pilot would set a couple of timers in the fire control computer like release 1-2-4 every x seconds. So they would just keep the trigger pressed for as ling as release was desired. And with a load of up to 36 MK81 250 pound bomb it was quite a carpet bomber!

If you raise your flaps after landing you will brake faster.

So I just got this and there is no radar....

Just 1 small gripe, the A7E receives the AGM-62 1 ER, or the extended range walleye (bigger fins) rather than the standard walleye.

Why do the a7's all nose dive in arcade... it is unflyable

I still don't get why both a7 are after the a10.... and one being higher br with less counter measures and worse missiles..so blatantly obvious how little gaijin really cares

On the subject of the lack of AGM-65 on the A-7E, this is gaijin doing 1/4th of their homework. To my knowledge the Navy only uses the AGM-65E and 65F. The 65F is pretty advanced so it would be rather OP in war thunder currently. The A-7D being air force, has access to the entire arsenal of air force Mavericks. I say 1/4th their homework, because both A-7s can carry the GPU-5 gunpod, despite this pod never flying on Navy aircraft. Also, how can you give this plane a good rating on external appearance? Gaijin didn't bother to animate the ailerons! Just their usual sloppy work. I'd also strike the cheep to repair off of the pros list. They do that with all the new planes now. It usually goes up to the planned value by the next patch. I haven't finished unlocking most of the upgrades for my A-7E but my assessment has a less favorable conclusion, although it mostly stems from war thunders game design and isn't a fault of the plane itself.

It really is too bad that this plane is useless in ARB now.

No match for the mig 23s that EVERYONE is flying. Average time is 5min before ball of fire falling to the ground. A-7s are disheartening to play. Like bombers in BR 4 and up.
