It's good to see someone who actually knows a bit about the 4th dimension of space play this and actually try to orient themselves rather than just getting confused when they think something stops existing because they can't see it any more.

It seemed like a neat mechanic that might take some thought and planning. Then the ball bounced in the fourth dimension. And then I was scared.

"Ana" and "kata" are greek words (or at least prefixes) meaning "up" and "down" that have been put into use in English for describing the third horizontal dimension in 4D. They are also used in the sciences with their more typical up/down meaning (e.g, katabatic winds are air masses that heat adiabatically as they travel downhill). Here "ana" and "kata" are being used as equivalents to left and right (since we have a whole 2D plane perpendicular to up/down/forward/back), and anth and kenth, as mentioned above, are being used as equivalents to east/west (since we have a whole plane perpendicular to up/down/north/south).

@JonBrase in that case I think itd be funny if greek people referred to the new directions as "up" and "down" when referring to the 4th dimension

@@circumplex9552 To be clear, those are the ancient Greek words. I have no idea if modern Greek still uses them. There's been 2000 years of language change in between.

21:06 The volume line is a setting that's off by default. It's telling you that you can turn that setting on. If it's on, there will be a line on the screen in volume view, and stuff that's in contact with that line will still get ghosts even if you turn ghosts off. Haven't played the game myself, so take it with a grain of salt, but that's how I read the language of that tip.

The line is the plane, being viewed edge-on, in which volume view will be "flattened" down to when exiting volume view, anything on it will appear as a surface in normal view. You're just swapping between the up/down axis on which gravity acts and whatever is anthward/kenthward for where you're facing (the axis which is perpendicular to that line) if that makes sense.

I've seen a bit about this game. Now to find out how mind-bendy it actually gets! It's so fun the ways video games find to display and incorporate extradimensional space. This is definitely the most thorough and intricate use of it I've seen. Looking forward to more when the series starts properly!

Thanks, great review. Are rotations limited? As far as I thought about 4D, one can see a tree trunk as a ball similar to circle in 2D plane parallel to ordinary Earth. In the game I saw only elongated trunks. Can you please try to rotate 90 degrees to test that? TIA. Edit: it seems trees as balls are in Volume view. Still it is interesting if rotating in Normal view can achieve same slice as Volume view.

@@indiegamechris4759 Thanks for quick reply and again for the review! I wonder if when you play next time you can try to rotate Normal view 90 degrees (so that Up/Down on left compass are pointed to left/right as in Volume) to check if it will result in same view as so called Volume.

In normal view the "vertical" axis is always fixed to gravity: you can only look straight up and down, not tilt your head left-right or ana-kata. (Though, the transition to volume view is literally tilting your head from vertical to ana-kata but only by 90 degrees.) In volume view the gravity axis is always the orthogonal one (so everything gets squashed). That eliminates three out of six rotational degrees of freedom. Honestly this makes the controls a lot simpler, so I appreciate it.

@@indiegamechris4759 , @marklundeberg7006 I get it now. I wonder if CodeParade gave a explanation somewhere about it. As one of the goals (as I understand it) is getting to understand dimensions, why this functionality is locked out... I'm going to try to ask him via youtube.

Really good quality for 1.2k, but i think the name could do some work. Maybe "Indie Chris"? Or "Chris Indie"? To shorten it a little? 3 words is pretty long (ironic coming from a Let'sGameItOut video, I know). But honestly, I'll possibly never get a video of you recommend again, so you don't need to give a shit.
