My dad took me to the Raiders game in November. It was my first game i ever went to, i was 9 years old. I remember that opening kickoff fumble by the Raiders, the crowd went nuts and a couple plays later Roman Gabriel alley-ooped a year pass to Harold Carmichael for a touchdown but that was it they never scored again. Still what a thrill to go to my first game with my dad and i became a big fan after that. I remember my mom got me a cool 76 Eagles poster for the 77 season which i put over my bed. Those were the days.

I’m a Giants fan, but never disliked the Eagles in 70’s because they stunk as bad as my Giants in those days. Love all these Eagles highlights.

The year i hitchiked twice across country ( NYC TO LA) came back on Sunday September 12,1976 and put a game on, Philly and the giants. Caught the play of #83 putting a hit on a giant and scored a touchdown from that play.

Very fun nostalgia. Fun little bits on a bunch of Eagles players. I love that the main quarterback highlights are about "the Polish Rifle" Ron Jaworski who is very clearly in a Rams uniform the whole time. Lol. Vermeil got them going the right way.

Wow. I still remember the Hampton fumble against the Cardinals late in the 2nd game. My family is Falcon fans, and remember seeing former Falcon Hampton making plays late I that game to give the Eagles a chance. But my dad wasn’t convinced. “Hampton will make a few plays for you, but in the end he’ll blow it for them” And I mean the very next play Hampton fumbles to seal the Cardinals victory. “See? What did I tell you?”

When Dick Vermeil arrived in 1976 as Eagles head coach, the previous regime tried to go with the "quick fix" by trading away high draft picks for players who they thought would make an immediate impact on the team. In 1973, the Eagles traded their 1st round pick in 1974 and their 1st & 3rd round picks in 1975 to the L.A. Rams for QB Roman Gabriel who many said was past his prime. In 1974 they traded their 1976 1st round pick & 1977 1st and 2nd round picks to Cincinnati for LB Bill Bergey, who was one of 10 players left from the team Dick Vermeil inherited from his predecessor Mike McCormick who would help the Eagles reach the Super Bowl in 1980.

Gabriel was past hie prime, and I am sure everyone knew that. But he was still the best option available. Don't forget that after Gabriel left...we were down to Mike Boryla. He was so bad that they had to talk Gabriel out of retirement, shot knees and all, to finish the next season in Boryla's place. I don't know if that gets mentioned here, as I am just about to start watching the video...but I remember that it happened. And Bergey was a great acquisition. I wore his "6's" every year I played the game, in his honor. There were deep problems, but I disagree that these were the problems. Besides, Vermeil raided the Rams again for Jaworski, where he had been riding the pine. Granted, he did not give away as much and got a younger QB with his trade, but it is always a deep risk drafting a QB out of college. When you do that, you roll the dice. They could come up Donovan McNabb...or they could come up Ryan Leaf.

@@kennedymcgovern5413 Agree totally! The Eagles prior to Dick Vermeil's hiring as head coach in 1976 looked like they were heading in the right direction under his predecessor Mike McCormick, who inherited a team that went 2-11-1 in 1972 and the Eagles improved their win totals in 1973 (5-8-1) & 1974 (7-7) before it bottoming out with a 4-10 record in 1975. The NFC East at the time was very competative with the Cowboys, Redskins and Cardinals each winning 10 to 12 games a year, fighting for the NFC East title and the one NFC wild-card playoff spot available at the time. From 1971 to 1976, that one NFC wild card spot was taken by either Washington or Dallas.

No, because they lost. When you lose, your fans should stay loyal...but you don't get to make the newsreels. I was six years old in '76, and had a banner in my room that said "Hat Trick in '76." I remember the hopes, as well as the repeat in '74 and '75. But the '76 team just didn't finish the job.

NFL films loves doing those time consuming tricks when there really weren’t many highlights. You’re really bad when the new coach coming in starts talking about his philosophy and blah, blah, blah. There was a lot more meat in the 1977 highlights simply because there were many more. Also notice that like 75 percent of the highlights were either special teams or defense. No mention of Gabriel or Boryla.

I remember this season well. I was six years old, still living in Philly, and just falling in love with what would be MY team until I was 47. Unfortunately, yeah I said 47 and the math will tell you I am 52. It is a damned shame that the America haters, Communists and Libtards (I know I just said the same thing three times) had to ruin it for everyone. Haven't watched a game for 5 seasons now, and have no plans to ever watch one again.

A lot of people are clamoring for those old uniforms. In my opinion they are where they belong.Retired. That was a loser uniform. I prefer seeing the present day uniforms. The uniforms of the 2017 Super Bowl Champions! I watch these videos because it brings back my childhood but the birds sucked bad back then
