    Pro Tip... for you guys like me, who are limited to the "cheaper" HOTAS set ups... I recently found myself needing MORE buttons with the A-10a. By accident I had left my Playstation DS4 controller connected to my PC and started DCS. Of course everything went kind of wonky, but I cleared the now "wireless controller" column under controls to get my HOTAS working back to normal. Then I started fiddling around out of curiosity, and realized I could easily use the 2 analog sticks and the additional 14 buttons on the controller. I then mounted the controller to the arm of my chair ( or just lay it it in my lap) just behind the throttle, and now when I'm using the targeting designation with Maverick missiles, it's a breeze to steer the cursor and lock using the left stick and L1 shoulder button to lock. Another example, I have set the DS4 Share and Options buttons to control way point selection. I've used this set up for display only and VR DCS, and having used a DS4 controller so much already, it's muscle memory easy to find the buttons I need without peeking under the headset.

    Thanks Cap, I have been hopping back into the A10C lately after a long time away...so very timely. Also good news from DCS folks that the A10C is going to be made over and updated...very nice! it's a fun plane to fly and the weapon systems are second to none.

    @@grimreapers I'm finding it hard too. My hope is, once I understand the A-10C, moving over and learning the Viggen, Harrier, and Hornet will be easy. And maybe Heatblur will have the English cockpit made for the Viggen and released by then. I know there's a mod available for this, but an official English translation will likely come with English voice-overs where needed.

    Adding curvature makes the controls less responsive early in the range of movement. If you look at the curves, it’s flattening out the line in the first part of the range of movement of the control, similar to how a dead zone flattens out the line. Only a dead zone flattens out the line completely. The line is completely horizontal for however large you have the dead zone set. When you had a curvature, the part of the line that represents the first part of the range of movement starts to flatten out and shift towards horizontal, but it doesn’t go all the way horizontal unless you addd a ton of curvature. The more curvature that you add, the more the line shifts toward horizontal similar to a dead zone. So adding curvature is deadening the control response early in the range of movement and the more curvature you add, the greater the degree of deadening. An axis with no curvature will have the same degree of response throughout the entire range of movement of the stick, throttle, or rudder. An axis with a curvature of 25 will have approximately 25% less control response early in the range of movement. A curve of 75 will have approximately 75% less response in the early range of movement, compared to end of the range of movement of the control. A curve of 75 will significantly deaden the control response in the aircraft for the fist part of the range of movement of the control. For example this would make a stick so that the first inch of movement only give 25% of the control response compared to the last inch of movement of the control.

    DCS allows to use button modifiers on your controller to assign more functions for each button. E.g. I am using the same buttons for flaps and speedbrakes but with different modifiers.

    Thanks for this, it's a great starting point. I've got a similar stick (the Logitech branded X56, which as far as I can tell is the same) and I notice you've bound controls to View up, down and so forth but I'm struggling a bit to figure out where JOY_BTN_POV1 is on the throttle. Any help would be appreciated.

    A very helpful video but I am still not having any success binding my flight controls/throttle. I have a TM Warthog HOTAS and throttles plus TFRP pedals. I have finally managed to get the rudders to work but nothing else does. I have watched, re-watched many videos and read the various topics in the ED forums but still no joy. I have no issues with other planes except this one. Which is a shame but hey-ho I will keep trying. Once again thank you for your very informative and helpful content.

    this works for all aircraft. in Microsoft apps a program called antimicro (its free) bind right shift and right control to a hotas button in antimicro.. then for example make weapons release shift and trigger. so you would click the hotas button assigned to shift then pull trigger and you get weapons release while also getting just the gun trigger when not pressing the button assigned for trigger. i also do this for trim. so i have trim set with the shift modifier and top hat on my stick, while with out the shift modifier my top hat changes SOI.

  • @fubarace1027
    @fubarace10275 жыл бұрын

    Another good video! With you running out of keys, have you considered using a modifier key on a key on one of your controllers? I used a key setup from someone who posted to DCS files. It allowed me to double up Trim and CMS on the same hat, Coolie and Boat on the same 4 way, and China and brakes on the same 2 way, and Trigger first stage and CMS Z axis on the same key. I'm using a TM T16k FCS HOTAS setup for reference. I did have a question, you mentioned that first stage trigger button needed to be pressed at the same time you use the main trigger to use your gun. I've had the gun fire without. Will I get more consistent results if I use the stage one trigger? I'm still learning and figuring things out, so I often fumble with my commands.

    Warthog users don’t have to do anything??? Unless you love sticktion you do. You have to disassemble the base, remove the crap grease, gently sand down the flash marks and replace the grease with some good quality stuff. Alternatively you can buy a VirPil WarBRD gimbal base (which I’m probably going to do some time in the future).

    I'm really not sure why people don't use modifier keys. I literally have my logitech extreme bound to every control i need in the aircraft by just pressing alt and using the same command, you can get quadruple the amount of realestate if you can just remember "oh shift+alt and my stick makes it control my weapons pod" giving you the incredible accuracy to do.. whatever you want with.
