The trim painted in Nordic Gold Metallic is a sharp feature on that 997.1! Cocoa Special Leather REALLY completes the package. It’s a shame the original buyer didn’t wait until 2009 to order it.

I appreciate the info, but isn’t test driving these on a straightline highway kind of pointless?

wouldnt it make more sense to review the 997.1 automatic vs the PDK? i think the higher score of the 997.1 was due to it being stick and the the PDK being sluggish. which ever did PDK improve?

There are two switched in the outside from corner of the seat base. One controls the bolsters on the seat base. The other controls the bolsters on the seat back.

I own the grandfather to these in a 993 Targa manual 6 speed. Very interesting to see how far it evolved by the time of the 997.2 with the PDK.

Does the targa top completely obscure the rear view when open? Also. Seems like a lot of wind buffeting when open as well. Seems like all the things that make it a targa in this particular model/year make it more difficult to live with on a day to day basis

I believe there’s a way to slide back the screen and then slide the top back on the 997.1, as I did on the 996.2. Whether the shade is rolled up or not, the view back is obscured a little. There was a bit of wind noise with the roof back, though I can’t say whether it was better or worse than a cabriolet.

I think both of these would be pretty easy to live with daily. Better than a cabriolet if you’re in an area that gets snow.

I've had a 2012 Targa and a 2012 Cabriolet. The Targa has wind noise (which Damon noted), but very little buffeting. Another fact that was not mentioned, of the three styles of Targas, this is the only top that you can open at any speed.

@@damonlowney2007 Targa 4 6 speed owner here, can confirm you can definitely retract both the sunscreen and the window completely. Agree that the rear view is always compromised slightly when the window is down, but not to an unsafe degree and you do get used to it quick enough (at least I did.)

Agree with the other reply’s based on my experience. I nearly never close the fabric and when the glass top is open it does affect rear visibility especially for us short people. Very usable daily for sure and the wing mirrors are all you need.

When the shifter is referred to as "notchy" what exactly does that mean?

It would mean that the gear positions are very clear and mechanical. Some gearboxes have a little play and the gears aren’t very clear where they are. Notched like a gated shifter

Finding a 6-speed 997.2 is harder than it should be...

Nordic Gold and Manual...don't need to know much more!_!

997.2 Targa 4s here. Fun to drive in the alps going to Italy or southern France. Autobahn. Windy roads. Manual of cause. PASM and sport chrono. Lots of smiles per gallon. Will never be sold i guess. One more thing: i am 6'7" and fit snuggly. Not a fan of the 991, 992 for now

The "S" adds so much IMO. 30 more HP and sits and inch lower...

I agree but I think the owner is protecting his investment by keeping the original coco brown leather wheel under wraps. Personally I'd want my hands on the original leather wheel and my P-Car gets driven like it was stolen.

Can't believe Porsche sold 997s in the US with the awful plastic door cards and dash. 🤢

Leather was an option.

It is a coupe with a larger sun roof, but has the disadvantage of being based on the less rigid cabrio body... abandoning the classic targa shape was such a bad decision.

Disagree totally. The 997.2 Targa is very special and more practical than the removable panel variants. Not based on cabrio either. The rear hatch is fantastic as well. The look is also so good with the silver trim over the windows and the pointy rear windows. Also all wide body which looks amazing. Less that 1,200 997.2 Targa 4 sold globally so also pretty rare. Love mine a lot

@@davidadams007 But it is... why do you think it has the extra weight of the cab? More practical, maybe, but targa owners of old bought them for the concept between coupe and cab, and to that end, the 997 is a targa in name only. The991 onwards was designed from the ground up to be a coupe or cab the same, so there is no such issue.

@@Baerchenization I think you need to do a bit of research on the 997 Targa. Here is a copy of an article from Australia “Overview: Released in November 2006, the Porsche 997 Series I (997.I) 911 Targa was based on the 911 Coupe but fitted with folding tailgate and an upward-lifting rear window which could be retracted by up to half a metre. The Targa 4 was available in a standard and ‘S’ edition, powered by 3.6- and 3.8-litre horizontally opposed (or flat) six cylinder petrol engines, respectively (see table below).” It is heavier due to the big glass roof mechanism and the rear glass mechanism. I agree that it is a modern interpretation of what a Targa was in the past and maybe present models but a Targa none the less. I have not been a fan of the old Targa panel look, or leaks, or the new power Targa roof looks. That’s just me though.
