992 Carrera S vs Subaru BRZ! | POV TRACK DAY AT NJMP LIGHTNING

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Did my best trying to chase down that 992 Porsche Carrera S! Was making my way through traffic as fast as I could but no luck. I finally started getting used to my new tires and was pumping out consistently quick times beating my previous best by 2 seconds!

    You need a supercharger or turbo, really ups the game with this platform. 14 FRS with HKS supercharger. Tracked it for the first time, and mine, recently as a novice at Portland Intl Raceway. Ton of fun, passed a lot of my dream cars, was very satisfying. Carerra S, GR Supra and a C6 Vette. It dominated in the corners so much they let me by on the straights, they could outrun but the drivers weren't going all in. I had just put 255 wide Falken Azenis on, grip was spectacular and next level over the 215 wide summer tires.

    @@dadhats ever considered putting a nitrous oxide system in the car. Im kinda against turbo charging these cars (due to engine needing a pretty severe rubuild), so would be interesting to see a NA engine running a tiny bit of nitrous when a power bump is needed. Thoughts?

    Man, you're super quick through that infield, nice driving. This was August, right? That black CTS-V was in Intermediate in the first session. He was holding people up and driving off line, it was strange. I get that it's just for fun, but it's also a bit frustrating when you can hardly get any clean laps due to traffic.

    I love those tires so much! It's kind of wild that you're able run 9.5 width. I'm a little jealous. 9 is as wide as I can go without spacers so my 255s aren't quite as well supported on the wheel which makes the edge of grip just a little... mushy? I get tired too with that much grip and no harness or bucket to hold me in lol. Holdin' on for dear life going around the carousel at sonoma.

  • @dadhats

    @dadhats

    oh man I can def see that being too wide of a tire for a 9in wheel. tire rack did a great video relatively recently going over that exact topic, basically saying having a slightly stretched tire would be quicker than a wider tire on the same size wheel

    @@kelvinmei9822 I love his tune I can def recommend xero limit in Easton, it's worth the drive. I would do flex fuel after you get the suspension and brakes dialed tho. e85 makes the car a good bit faster lap time wise but it isn't much more rewarding to drive unlike better suspension/brakes

    I noticed that you stay in 4th under the bridge - what is your top speed in 4th? In my '23 GR86 it is about 106 so I end up going to 5th gear right before the bridge only to have to change down a couple of seconds later. Same thing on Thunderbolt between 3 and 4. I wonder if that change to 5th is worth it though it's an odd and uncomfortable feeling when it redlines and kind of powers off :(

    using kpower's gearing calc it's around 112mph for me. I thought new gens had the same gearing/fd as my 2013 brz so it shouldn't be that different 🤔

  • @TheKstroke
    @TheKstroke9 ай бұрын

    I've heard about a potentially different way to handle 2-3, and 4 where you carry more speed through 3 and stay to the left, then take a tighter 4. It's curious because the distance between 4 and 5 isn't much so that you'd lose tons of exit speed. Ever seen anyone do that? We need some testing!

  • @dadhats

    @dadhats

    9 ай бұрын

    I've seen people do that. I'd have to drop to 3rd gear, I could try it out next year. powering out like that in my brz usually doesn't work out since it's pretty low power lol

    Does that organization does something about the people getting held up? In advanced sessions, no car in that group should hold anyone up like that for that long specially with that much room, unlike that civic from the other video during the sweeper. Congrats on the PB! Glad you finally switched to real track tires 😂 the difference in grip is immense

    Was also wondering, on that sweeper. How does going in wide and lighter braking and earlier work for you there? Since i have no abs being in a miata i have to plan stuff out like this. But, most cars, should be able to drive like a miata. Also, considering your aero

    Stock SS 1LE with pads and GM alignment... kzread.info/dash/bejne/m6hhyMpplMWcmcY.html I notice you like to compare your brz versus what are at best mediocre drivers in higher hp RWD cars. This should hopefully help you realize how all things being equal (read good driver) where you stand. On my first and only day at Lightning, I went 1:15 in my SS 1LE with ambient temps over 90 on heat-cycled OEM tires. Typically at most tracks, I normally drop over 2 seconds on my second day. Maybe will run together at Lightning this year.
