The application process for some companies is quite a bit slow (could take 1.5-2 months). If you apply early with a sub-par profile (fresher), wouldn't you be at a disadvantage in a way then? By the time you have built your profile, your last application would still be in process and you can't apply to new openings (if the company/field is a bit niche). What's your take on this?

I will be doing my MS next year with 1.5 years of experience in software enggineering. For internships what skills/technologies do companies hire. I have majority of project in domain of ML/AI so is it feasible to get an internship in this domain as i have heard for such fields they usually have a criteria of US citizenship(I have looked on linkedin). Also what technologies do you suggest to ease the process of getting an internship/job in US. I know the importance of DSA and have a pretty good profile on Leetcode and some other sites. Also can you please explain how to bag interships in tech giants (microsoft,google etc) , the process , their expectations from interns etc.

You can definitely get internships in ML/AI fields. There are lots of open roles. Usually they are competitive because PhD students also apply for them. If you have previous internships / experience in ML/AI, it will be easier. For software engineering, no technology is required. Just DSA and leetcode.

I’m talking about internships in summer. If you join in fall 22, then aim for summer 23 internships which start in may/June.

What about the Co-op opportunity provided by NEU. We should be prepared with our resumes till July and apply outside. Will be coming to NEU for Fall22.

Coop opportunities generally open up a bit later. Neu will let you apply for coop from next semester. Till then, you can apply on LinkedIn if you find any.

You can start preparing from India. Solve as many leetcode questions as you can. Focus on DSA. That is what companies ask in interviews. 2-3 projects are good enough to have a discussion with the interviewer.

Yep. If you come for fall 2022, you can intern during summer 2023. But applications for summer 2023 internships open in July 2022

Sajag, you have given wonderful advice that we can apply for jobs while we are in India...but we won't get a US mobile number until we enter the US...so can we mention our India contact number? Will they contact us if we mention India's contact number? Please advice...

It is ok to not have a mobile number on your resume. Just an email address is fine. Recruiters will use that to contact you.
