95-99 Chevy K1500 Rear Speaker Change

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

I show you how to change the rear speakers in the 96 Chevy Silverado extended cab. You need to remove pretty much everything in the rear of the truck to just get to the rear 4x6 speakers.

UPDATE....This video is great! Great job Chelsz! You're super thorough and do every step! Here's a little shortcut for anyone that's going to attempt this. I just replaced rear speakers on a 95' today 9/15/21. When you get to 8:51 in the this video stop! You do not have to pull the entire bottom trim piece off or remove the entire rear pillar plastic. You also don't need to pull the rear seat belt up and out of the plastic. Skip to 10:46 and remove the front seatbelt and the phillips head screw in the hanger hook. Now reach up to the top back corner of that plastic trim and start popping that pillar plastic off from the top down. Once you get it popped out about half way down you're good. You can flex that plastic enough to get behind it, remove the old speaker, and put the new one in. DON'T DO ANY OF THIS (especially bending the plastic) WHEN IT'S COLD. You want the temperature to be at least 70 degrees otherwise all of this plastic will shatter in your hands.

Absolutely the best video for changing the rear speakers in my 1994 GMC Sierra. I watched a half a dozen other videos and none came close to the simplicity of instructions, the quality of camera (both lighting and angles) use. Thank you for taking the time to make this video, it was hands down a tremendous help!

Chelsz, thank you so much for this! I have a 96 chevy silverado stepside extended cab and I’m in the process of replacing the stereo and speakers. The front speakers are no problem but the rear speakers are in a world of it’s own. After finding out all that you have to do just to get to the speakers, I was considering just cutting the panel at the speaker, replacing the speaker and installing a speaker grill over the cut-out. I’m so glad I found this, you make it looks so easy!!!!

Thank you for making this video and bravely going into this job that many would have not. I do enjoy seeing more people being Mechanically inclined and outside working for themselves for a change. You have renewed my hope for humanity at least a little bit. Tippical Chevrolet making things way too complicated than they need to be and using cheap plastic to make the panel's. I don't think I want to risk breaking my panel's so I think I will just use a Dremel tool with cutting wheel and cut the hole out where the speaker is and finish the job that Chevy half-assed and make a "Removable Panel" to change the speaker. because I am not going through this every time I have to or want to change the speaker's out.

Awesome job. As I was watching I couldn’t help but think if there is a way to cut out that speaker cover so that the next you need to replace them you can just take off a cover instead of all that paneling! I might need to run that by my friend with a 3-d printer and see what we can do. Also is your front seat a bench seat? Because I really like the center console.

Broke one of the tabs on the drivers side trying to bend it like you showed but it felt like the whole piece wanted to snap in half. But it still went back up okay. I may try and figure out a way to repair it in the future. Ill say everything came apart a lot better then i expected it would.

Thanks for the video. One important thing I was trying to seeis where the fastner slots were in the body, had todo alittle stop/start. Would have been nice to see a snapshotof the backside if the panel ;) I try and use tools (custom made if necessary) to pull panels of at there fastner point, especially on older vehicles and large panels, as plastics getbrittle. Ok, so what kind of camera are you using ? Has a wide lens. And regarding your cleaner... Try Folex. You can find it in the cleaner section, or, in thd carpet dept of Home Depot/Lowes. If your getting the large 1 Gal, I like to fill my spray bottle about a 1/3, then water rest of the way. Shake easy. If you have really cdirty areas, then fill to 1/2, rest with water. Give it 5-10 minutes to breakup dirt soil, then blot to pull your stains out, lightly rubif hou have to. Some things require 2nd application, depending on how you clean. Rotate your cloth as well. So... How do those Kickers sound? I just did my head unit (Sony MEX-N5300BT... will tackle the speakers next month. Rockford Fosgate makes a 4x6 that ive choosen for the swap-out. Lastly, did you make a video for the front speakers? Thx.

After you take the piece in the middle and the piece on the top that go across the truck off.....if you unscrewed the phillip's head screw in the hanger above the window....do you think you could pull down and flex the plastic pillar enough to get the speaker out without having to remove all the trim plastic?

Good. Video looks I will be cutting my panel around the speaker to replace it and screw the speaker grill on over the cut panel fast easy. Good video but I don’t have the patience for all that

I gutted that out. Great work. Me? I would put some REALLY good speakers in the doors and turned the fader to front only.

Thanks! I did put some Speakers up front as well! I also faded more to the front than the rear.

Thats crazy that you don't have the back door that opens mine does its 97 but it was technically manufactured as a 96 and sold in 97

On the first panel you took out that runs along the rear glass, that one is designed to remove top clips first then bottom. So they won't break. Okay now to my dirty old man observations: I want Chelsz channel to be a success. There is no question that on videos like this that her viewing audience would increase exponentially with the occasional, subtle, quick and above all accidental crotch shot. {"To lay the speaker wires we have to pull up the carpet like this. Now as you can see I shave but you get the point. The carpet must come up."} That is a channel whose viewing audience would go through the roof.

Oh no, I was trying my hardest not to break too many. 😂 these plastics get so brittle over time.

My truck has the 3rd door so mine is probably a tad bit different, but I’m in the process of doing this. Just ordered my replacement Kicker speakers.

Michael - how’d the replacement end up going? I have the 3rd door on my 97 k1500 and am thinking about attempting a rear-speaker replacement, a lot of disassembly though....

Yeah, I'm going to cut a hole and then cover it with some form of speaker cover.
