94-Year-Old Ice Cream Shop Makes The Best Sundaes In NYC | Legendary Eats
Eddie's Sweet Shop has been a staple in the Queens borough of New York City since 1925. Though it has gone through several owners, it still remains true to its roots and serves some of the best sundaes the city has to offer. It's known for its signature ice cream sundaes, which are piled high with fudge, whipped cream, and a cherry on top. Insider's Taryn Varricchio headed to Eddie's to see why this ice cream shop has stood the test of time.

I never thought a video about ice cream would make me cry. When I was in middle school my grandpa passed. He used to take my brother and I to Eddie’s all the time just like he would take my mom and my aunt. Eddie’s will always have a special place in my heart. I miss sharing banana splits with my grandpa.

Eddie's is an institution! My parents took us here all the time for their very special treats. It certainly is like going back in time and that's what's so great about this place! I remember the grandfather, with his incredible white hair, sitting with all the figurines opposite the marble counter, his son and now his grandson running the shop. Bless them for keeping it going for all these many years. Some of my most wonderful memories growing up in Kew Gardens.

Just to let y'all know it seems like the shop is still up and running even after covid! I think we're lucky for that haha
The world would be a lot better if there were more shops like these.🍨
When I was growing up my great aunt and uncle had the town sweet shop. When I saw that huge sundae it reminded me of the huge banana splits we would get from them. There was all that ice cream sitting on a split banana and covered with (what I preferred) butterscotch, strawberry and caramel sauces with chopped nuts and whipped cream and a cherry on top. That's one of the things I really enjoyed growing up. And my great aunt and uncle were such a sweet cute couple. Miss them.
Vito, thank goodness you were willing and able to keep “Eddies” shop open and vibrant! I love ice cream sundaes! One of, ice cream sundaes, my favorite memories , to look forward to as a young child! Thank you
If you ever want to get something delicious and gooey, sit down and eat what I had there a few months ago. Ordered a double-scoop sundae {French Vanilla and Strawberry}, covered with marshmallow sauce, butterscotch syrup - -with a cherry on top. The sauce was running down the sides on the metal glass, making it very sticky, but I couldn't care less - -it was delicious. PS Their whipped cream is hand-made, several times a day, by an very old chap in the basement. It's sinfully rich and marvelous.

Oh my God, pure delight, hm... I'm a sucker for REAL fresh whipped cream, in Europe it's usually called chantilly ( the french recipe, cream with a tad of sugar ). Unfortunately, most stores, today, don´t bother using the real stuff, either in ice cream sundaes or in pastry. So I went crazy watching this video, I mean, the fruit syrup, the semi melted ice cream, the regal whipped cream, and - literally - the cherry on top! :)

Another quintessential American institution. Thanks for sharing. While growing up in the 60s there was a great ice cream shop at the local dairy. I usually had the hot fudge sundae. I was only allowed one scoop. It wasn't till I was in high school that I got two three scoops. I worked in a restaurant that made homemade milkshakes. One day I put a slice of pecan pie in the mixer and ice cream and milk. I had a mess to clean up but I was rewarded with a great milkshake. I soon learned it tasted better without the crust. I need to get my blender out and make one.
I go to school near there and its always a great place to go

I live on Long Island where we have our own classic ice cream shops. Hildebrandts in Williston Park that opened in 1927(featured in the Martin Scorsese film The Irishman) and Krisch’s in Massapequa that opened in 1955.
I live in Manhattan but I’d probably be willing to hop on the subway to Queens to experience this - at least once. Maybe I’ll go this summer when it’s really hot outside. That’s the time for good, cold ice cream like that!
