91 narrowboat life UK - Exploring Beautiful Kildwick Village in North Yorkshire

NARROW ESCAPE - our narrowboat life adventure. In this episode we take a step off the Leeds and Liverpool Canal towpath and instead take you with us on a wander around the beautiful villages of Kildwick and Farnhill. It's a lovely spot in North Yorkshire and well worth a little explore. It’s quite hilly though so be warned. We hope you enjoy it too!
We hope you'll SUBSCRIBE and support the channel and join us on our big adventure as we learn laugh and cry our way around the UK canal network. If you've ever wondered what life on the canals is like told without scripting or acting then we're sure you'll love what we video. It's authentic. It's real. It's told how it is with a bit of banter and occasional silliness thrown in for free!
We'll be sure to post new videos every week and look forward to taking you on our journey. See you on the next one!

Headstones are often laid down if looking dangerous to avoid accidents. 😊Think about the poor bell ringers kept busy all night, pulling those ropes and no sleep. 😮

That would make total sense Martyn - there will be some weight in those stones! Ah the poor bell ringers 🤣, bless them!!

Living close to a church you get used to the Bells going off. Even to the point noticing when they don't go off. What you failed to notice was the inscription on the first downed headstone ... "Here lies the last person to complain about the bells going off" ..... lol My parents used to take us up to Kildwick when we were kids, lovely town and countryside Appears to have changed a bit since then

Church bells can be such a great sound but honestly after let’s say 9pm there is just no need - turn the things off! It was a great mooring spot apart from that though and the village is a stunner. 9.5/10 🤣🤣

Just remember, the church was there before the canal 🙂 You wouldn't like my home, 4 ticking clocks and 2 of them set to chime.

100% agree on that. I say the same thing at swing bridges when Sue feels guilty about stopping traffic - the canal was here before they chose to put a road over it! The bells were a shame because they just carried on throughout the night. In the daytime they were lovely and really pleasant to listen to but you can imagine how loud they seemed at night given you can hear a pin drop…hey ho. It explains why the mooring spots outside it were free 🤣 Do you honestly have chiming clocks that go off in the night? You must have a MASSIVE house 🤣

@@NarrowEscape1 Nope, just a small house, but I like my ticking clocks. I made a grandfather clock when at college, it has full Westminster chimes - I will admit that I've put the damper on them!

You made a grandfather clock?!? I once made a wooden spatula in woodwork…so it’s nearly the same thing 😱😱 I suppose you get used to the chiming do you, a bit like people who live under a flight path and no longer get woken by the planes, in fact probably quite the opposite they couldn’t now sleep without them?

Nice tour! I live not far from the church. I dont even notice the bells any more at night, and when I do hear them late in the evening they always make me smile - especially if the bellringers are ringing a few rounds. You walked past my house… appreciate the compliment about how pretty it all is. You are correct - the houses here sell quickly and easily - often the sale sign is down within days of it going up. You missed the prettiest parts on the edge of Farnhill and Kildwick though!

Thanks Edward. We did suspect that locals would become so used to them. Of course it didn’t help we were moored right next to them, in a metal tube with single glazed windows 🤣 You’ve chosen a beautiful place to live - top choice 👍 Ah, we missed the prettiest bits? Will have to search those out next time because we’d enjoy coming back at some point…although the swing road bridge on the far side of the church will need to behave itself!!

Oh no!! That is weird timing Ian because Sue asked me only yesterday whether we’d heard from you guys following your binge watch. I said we hadn’t and then your message had appeared. So glad to hear that Japanese Doris is OK and hope it’s a one off! It’s never nice to see a loved one in hospital but glad to hear you both sound back to normal… Regards the church bells you are lucky as it turns out. I imagine the temples and monks in Japan are a much quieter affair? Glad to hear you are both back up to speed! E & S

It’s a weird one because the sound of the bells in the day can be fantastic, but carrying on through the night just doesn’t seem like cricket…! Trying to picture where the church is at Braunston? There is one on the outskirts of the town with a tall steeple we remember but we must have been lucky regards the noise because we weren’t disturbed 🤞 Thanks for the message guys. E & S

Vibration from the bells chiming all night must have knocked them over. Maybe quite for the dead pulling the burial stone over top of their grave. I've never noticed if my local church chimes all night on the hour or every 1/4 hrs. Great weather last week in Padstow. No idea what has happened to it now I'm back home😅... Anyway back to your video and moaning about the bells lol.. 😅😅😅😅 kev Brinklow kayaker😊

Amazing tree was a monkey tree don't see too many these days. The chimney pots maybe Fred Dibnah specials must have been a job lot for the village. Some nice houses around there pity you were parked next to the oldest and noisiest building in the place. 😂😂😂😂 Lovely place and you guys seem very content even Elliott with the ding donging chiming issue lol.😮😮😮 Very quite on the bank no walkers🚶‍♂️ or bike's passing by. 🤣🤣 that’s tickled us Paul. One of us has a hatred of poor architecture and in particular poor window choice. It can easily make or break a house design and it often gets overlooked. Often you will see a house that is otherwise fabulously designed and then it is wrecked with a poor/careless choice of windows 🤮

Mr Grumpy...Those bells have been ringing for many a year so why should they stop for You??? But walking straight across Graves, show some respect for the dead. May be you should say a few Hail Marys every hour on the hour and ask for Forgivness.

  • @NarrowEscape1

    @NarrowEscape1

Now now, that’s a bit unfair Trevor isn’t it. I never said the bells should stop for ME did I? I just found it strange they continue throughout the night especially on the quarter hour!!! Beyond tradition why do they do that? Maybe the locals don’t hear them anymore and it is their village after all? Regards walking straight across graves, well, we just plain didn’t do that did we. As for calling me Mr Grumpy, OK you got me on that one. 🤣
