This Snapper lawn tractor is a customer's. I did a temporary fix on vacation that inadvertently stretched out the belt so she could mow grass until a part came in. In this video I replace the deck belt as well as the return spring to get it mowing again!

Glad you repaired this one for no charge. This demonstrates you are an honest person and will make things right. This mower looks like it is well built so hopefully you keep it running. Thanks for the videos.

Thank you. My son was given the same model of Snapper mower by a friend who just got a new one. This helped him know how to replace the deck belt. Thank you for your help!

aw man this tractor brings back memories! My dad always wanted this tractor when i was a kid, but brand new, even in the 90's it was like $2,000 dollars. There was NO WAY we could afford that. It's nice to see one running still in 2023!

I have one almost exactly like this- mine is a LT145H38DBV, which I bought new, and use the mulching blade). Getting the Briggs and Stratton OEM deck belt is key, but are no longer available from Amazon. Perhaps from another supplier. Getting the exact length(84.75" and width(0.5") of the belt you need are what makes the difference. Would love to see a picture of the deck pulled out from under the tractor, so that a viewer can be sure that his deck was assembled correctly, and that the belt between the main blade pulleys is on the correct side of the vertical guide post between those pulleys(the one with a bent goose-neck top), and that the blade brake is correctly positioned to not wear out the belt when you're cutting grass. The strong spring that engages the blades works better, and you get more tension, if it is attached from the top of the lever into the hole instead of from the bottom, using a long flat blade screwdriver, the end of which is wedged against the underside of the frame, to get the leverage to slide the end of the spring to where you can get it into the hole from the top. I really appreciate your making this video. The Snapper user manuals are nearly worthless for belt, spindle or blade replacement and carburetor adjustment, and little or no mention is made of that anti-back-fire valve on the bottom of the carb, which will melt from too much power getting to it.

This was an experiment for me too to see if it would work. Sadly the new blade cable kept slipping off the roller and it eventually ate the new belt up too. Been a while since I worked on it so unsure how everything went.

I have had that problem too. My original mower deck belt lasted about 18 to 20 years, although there were times when it wasn't used regularly. I revised my original comments to suggest putting the big blade engagement spring in from the top, as the parts manual shows, and be sure the guides hanging down near the front pulley (the ones that keep the belt from falling off the front pulley coming down from the engine) are positioned correctly and won't let the belt fall off if the tension gets too loose. The directions aren't clear about how you're supposed to do this. If the belt is too thick, like the blue replacement belt you installed appeared to be, it will get eaten up by the brakes or the pulleys or something under there you can't see very well. That's another reason why you don't want it falling off the engine pulley, which can cause the belt to be destroyed. The small springs under the idler pulley are still available from Snapper dealers at a reasonable price, and are necessary for this deck to work. Thanks again.

@@Anonymous-zv9hk Thanks for the info. Most of my problem ended up being in the $40 cable that I ordered. It kept falling off the roller assembly. This one surely tested me although the repair looked straightforward!

I never have had to do a drive belt change on one of these, but these mowers are pretty similar to Murray mowers so that may give you some pointers.
