Hey guys! How's it going? Michael with Nocturnal Simulations back with another life-changing tip! If you're tired of landings that resemble a rhinoceros on roller skates or an unruly teenager taking charge, then this video is for you! In this episode, we'll tackle the notorious issue with small airplane landings in Microsoft Flight Simulator and provide you with a quick fix that will have you landing planes smoother than ever before.
One of the biggest challenges in the flight model of small airplanes is the overpowering elevator. Even the slightest pull on the controls sends you soaring upwards, while a gentle push results in a rapid descent. It's as if the elevator gained superpowers overnight, neglecting its duty to maintain stable flight. But fear not, there's a simple solution!
Through extensive experimentation, I've made a noteworthy discovery: we've been underutilizing the elevator's true potential. Most of the time, we barely utilize 10% of its full capability, rendering the remaining 90% of the axis useless. It's time to give the elevator the attention it deserves! By increasing the physical utilization of the elevator axis on your hardware, we can achieve a smoother flying experience, eliminating those pesky jolts caused by excessive pitch changes.
So how do we accomplish this? In this video, I'll guide you step-by-step on how to adjust the elevator sensitivity in the controls options of Microsoft Flight Simulator. I recommend decreasing the sensitivity of the Y axis, and in my case, I use 45% sensitivity. If you're using the Honeycomb Yoke, which I've linked below, it comes with a full 180-degree rotation, providing a buttery smooth experience right out of the box. You can also explore adjusting the roll axis if desired.
Feel free to experiment with different sensitivity settings until you find the one that suits your flying style and brings a smile to your face. Trust me, once you make these adjustments, your landings will become as respectable as can be! I guarantee it!
Don't forget to like and subscribe to our channel for more flight simulator tips and tricks. If you found this video helpful, be sure to share it with your fellow virtual pilots. Fly safe, and may your landings be smoother than ever before! Happy simming! 🛫✈️

Nice video and good tip! I also use the extremity dead zone to good effect in MSFS. It reduces that overzealous elevator to an even greater effect IMO. A nice negative 20 to 30% usually gives a good feeling depending on the plane. For example, if you put it to 20% then 100% of your physical yoke pull only equals 80% in-game pull. It really allows me to keep the sensitivity curves a tiny bit flatter.

It works ! thanks.... any idea why my SIm keeps crashing ? started recently. Not much sense as I have added 3 new downloads, FBW Injection, OCTAVI, SPAD . . . I did notice the NVIDIA Boost was checked in MSFS - turned it off. Otherwiwse I have loaded SAFE mode and it crashed . WTF any Ideas ? Oh I also use Map Enhancement and have tried using the LINKER for whatever reason - nothing seems to make sense. Have soured the web .. still scouring ....and I do have both feet flat on the floor at all times ! ha made ya look . !

Have you cleared your rolling cache recently? That seems to be a common fix for a lot of problems. Also ensure your drivers are all updated!

I find myself reducing flaps one at a time to manage to touch down before I run out of runway. I doubt this is realistic though.

Technically you should be in a landing configuration and stabilized on the approach well before you get to the runway.

@@nocturnalsimulations I'm quite new so maybe I don't allow myself enough run-up to the runway. I suspect it's also because I hold the yoke back so I land the rear wheels first to get a smooth landing, but this gives me lift and makes me hover a few feet above the ground for too long. Compared to when I start, my landings have improved quite a bit however.

@@JonJon-dk3nh it takes a lot of practice, and even then you'll still struggle some days! Check out one of my videos I made that covers short field landings as it may help you out some here!
