90's Commercials Vol. 467

Ойын-сауық

These commercials aired on Nick in October of 1991
1. "Danger Mouse" Commercial Bumper
2. Promo for "What Would You Do?" (I remember watching this all the time at 6PM every evening and probably caught every episode that aired more than once. It was certainly no Double Dare but Marc Summers was a great host)
3. The Adventures Of Pete & Pete: "Revenge Of The Petes" (This was one of 18 shorts that aired during commercial breaks on Nick beginning in 1989. At the time of this recording the first two half-hour Pete & Pete specials had aired earlier that year and it eventually became a full-fledged Nick series in 1993)
4. Macro Machines Reversibles (The Micro Machine Man's getup briefly seen at 1:16 is so 1991 that it hurts)
5. Baby Face Dolls (That doll's face at 1:32 is going instantly on a loop in my nightmares for years to come)
6. Promo for "James Bond Jr." (This was definitely a show that I was aware of at the time and saw the action figures and merchandise in stores, but don't think I ever actually sat down and watched an episode when it was on. It has a pretty good theme song, I'll give it that: • James Bond Jr. Theme S... )
7. Lights & Lace Barbie (This commercial was shot just a few weeks before Barbie first heard Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit" on the radio and instantly knew the times were changing...and that lights & lace were suddenly a thing of the past. Within a month she was wearing flannel and Doc Martens like everyone else)
8. Promo for "Jeff's Collie" (Jeff's Collie" was the syndication title for the early seasons of "Lassie" that aired from 1954-57)
9. Coming Up Next...
10. Promo for "Inspector Gadget"
11. Promo for "Doug" (A classic show that was only around two months old when these aired)
12. Ghost Writer
13. Super Mario World for SNES (4:50 I don't actually think SMW is all that hard of a game compared to say Super Mario Bros. 3...except for those optional Special Zone levels near the end of the game!)
14. Baby Face (More nightmares to add to the collection)
15. True Stories From Famous People (With Hulk Hogan. My only real experience with "Suburban Commando" as a kid was watching the trailer for it at the beginning of the VHS tape for TMNT 2 about a billion times. And FYI, Hogan grew up in Florida...so an irrational fear and hatred of Alligators was probably not the craziest phobia for him to have)
16. Mr Potato Head (With his bucket of farts)
17. Nickelodeon Studios Update Bumper (Brought to you by Pizza Hut)
18. Pizza Hut (With glow-in-the-dark Nick Or Treat Halloween cup)
19. Nickelodeon Studios Update
20. Nickelodeon Studios Update Bumper (Brought to you by Pizza Hut...again)
21. Cocoa Pebbles (Barney Rubble is CocoaCop...directed by Paul Verhoeven)
22. Nick Station ID
23. Hostess Grizzly Chomps (Note: Grizzy B. died on the way back to his home Planet)
24. "Jeff's Collie" Commercial Bumper
25. Majorette Sonic Flashers Military Collection
26. TV Spot for "Ernest Scared Stupid" (YES! My dad took me and my sister to see this just before Halloween that year. It's definitely my favorite Ernest movie and it’s always a fun movie to watch around this time of year. It is an honor and a privilege to finally post a spot for this! Also RIP Jim Varney and Eartha Kitt)
27. Silly Soup (Wow, does anyone remember this game or the commercial? I sure don't)
28. "Jeff's Collie" Commercial Bumper
29. Coming Up Next...
30. McDonald's
31. Happy Birthday Barbie
32. Barbie Star Stepper Horse
33. Pooch Patrol Super Pooches
34. Corn Flakes

Those very early shortform Pete and Pete episodes were definitely something else. I'm so glad Nickelodeon realized their incredible potential, and adapted these goofy shorts into one of the best surreal comedies ever made. We all got to grow up with Ellen and the Petes.

I'm so grateful to Nickelodeon for introducing me to Danger Mouse as a kid, it was one of my favorite cartoons and living in America Nickelodeon made it the only possible way to even know it existed!!

I had gotten a Genesis for my 14th birthday in the Summer of 91 along with the just-released Sonic the Hedgehog (which was not yet the pack-in at the time), so the launch of the Super Nintendo and Super Mario World did not grab my attention much at the time. I remember thinking Mario was old hat, and I was quite confident in my decision of the Genesis over the SNES. The following year, I saw The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past at a friend's house, and I simply had to have one. Luckily, Nintendo had recently lowered the price of the console, and I had just had my 15th birthday, so I scraped up enough money for a Super Nintendo with Mario World, as well as Zelda. Owing both consoles was wonderful, and a big part as to why the 16-Bit generation remains my favorite period for gaming. The real winners of the "Console Wars" were those who played both sides.

The one good thing that came from Hulk Hogan in Suburban Commando was having The Undertaker in it. As for Artie from Pete & Pete. Who would have seen it coming where he would later voice as Khan on King of The Hill for a solid 13 years.

Baby Face- 🎶 Baby Face, She’s the one, Oh Yeah, I make her so much fun, my Baby Face🎶 Aside from the creepiness of these dolls, the commercial has a catchy jingle to it. Mr. Potato Head- The kid trying on Mr. Potato Head’s glasses at 6:34 adds a level of strangeness to this commercial, I think. McDonald’s- Aside from the quirkiness of this commercial, the close attention to detail throughout, especially in the designs of the outfits for the Chicken McNugget characters, is something to be appreciated, I believe.

Would be a great twist if all of the villains on the show were the illegitimate offspring of James Bond.

SNES/Super Mario World: yeah I think you may be right the really only challenging levels were those extra ones (especially the really 'slang' named ones. definitely put your SMW skills to the test! Grizzly Chomps: guessing it flopped cus I definitely don't even remember these! Ernest: Scared Stupid: MIAK! probably the one thing I remember from that movie, hahah.

I actually had that Lights & Lace Barbie doll! Must've gotten it as a birthday gift this year (1991). Weird but I remember the commercial for it being totally different, that the song was kind of a soundalike to Paula Abdul's "Straight Up", but maybe it was for a different Barbie.

Not really, there were still major titles being released in 1996 in the months leading up to the launch of the N64.

What Would You Do? was better in the later seasons with the Wall of Stuff and the Piecoaster! But James Bond Jr. was an enjoyable watch before school on WWOR channel 9! Also another vote for never hearing of Silly Soup!

"Jeff's Collie"? What, did they get the rights to the show but not the Lassie name?

Mentioned in the video description, this was the syndication title for the early seasons of "Lassie". Nickelodeon used the Lassie name in other promos aired in the early 90's so I don't believe it was a rights issue. They also aired "Timmy and Lassie", the syndication title for the seasons aired between 1957-1964 featuring a different boy as the main human character.

I have to agree. SMB 3 (especially the original NES version) is definitely more challenging of a game in comparison to SMW. Still, both are really fun games that if you haven't played before, then you really need to play them.

The Chiodo Brothers did the special effects for "Ernest Scared Stupid". en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Chiodo_Brothers They're best known for their work on the "Critters" series and "Killer Klowns From Outer Space". Scared Stupid actually reused two of the Clown masks from that movie for two of the trolls seen near the end. bloody-disgusting.com/movie/3407253/ever-spot-killer-klowns-ernest-scared-stupid/
