90° of LEGO-inspired MAD FLEX for nearly free!!! | RC crawler suspension mod you can do too!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Unique (I think?) LEGO-inspired suspension idea I tried out on my 1/10 Axial Wraith rock crawler that works like a boss. ~90° of flex can be achieved!!!
Let me know what you think & comment on your experience if you try it below. Happy crawling! 🤘🏻
...would LOVE for someone to try this concept out on a full-size trail-only rig w/trailing arms for lower links in the front 😎😎😎 Maybe I'll do it one day 🤙🏻

    If you'd like to see the crawler in action say so in the comments below & I'll take the time to shoot another video of it. I can also let the rear shackles loose and show just how much flex she really has! 1 more thing I forgot to add to the video...it helps to run solid links in the rear (i.e. aluminum, etc.) and composite in the front; when twisting through the rocks the composite arms will deflect some & the rig can really twist through some tight spots (well beyond 62*). Solid links in the rear do not deflect & help with stability. Get out there & experiment...let's see what you can come up with! Would love to see someone run this setup in a competition...let me know down below, yo! I won the RC rock race @ pupukea, Hi in the 2.2 class w/this rig...video can be found on my channel to view the terrain she conquered...it performed so well I started almost last and finished WAY ahead of everyone and ended up with some time to shoot video.

    Wow. That's a pretty neat idea. I'm gonna try it. Nothing is permanent or cut, damaged, whatever. I can just remove them. We have plenty of Legos too. And that is a LOT of flex too. I read many of the comments and nearly everyone is gonna copy this mod. Just wait and see. Traxxas, HPI, Team Losi or a somebody will market these and people will buy them.

He let me drive his Deadbolt and I went through a crawler course on AWD. I have a Axial SCX10 2 Trailblazer for now I always wondered 🤔 💭 if this was possible but from Legos ...my son still got Legos ....guess I'll be trying this and let you know how it turns out.

    Those wheels are going to drop in some deep holes. Massive flex isn't always good. I have 1 rig set up with extreme flex but it is good to be able to limit it on the fly, so I have some adjustable limit straps. Can be done with micro servos but that requires significant channels on the radio. The adjustable straps work well enough for me. My system is almost identical but I have the lever at the top on the shock tower and have the limiters set up on top as well so they are hidden.

    Heck yeah give it a whirl! That's a big reason why I post videos on here...to share ideas. I do have a lowering kit on front & rear in the form of adjustable upper coil mount brackets, but unfortunately I don't recall the brand; any brand should work as long as it's similar in design...I recommend experimenting w/your rig to see what works best. Lowering kit is not necessarily required to make this idea work. Best of luck to you & thanks for the view & comment!

    This is sweet!!! I have a question, do you get any more body roll with those servo horn links? And if I were to only do front or rear, which one would you recommend? I would imagine rear so it won’t tip over backward on steep climbs?

  • @coldsteeloffroad

    @coldsteeloffroad

    3 жыл бұрын

    Increased body roll is inherent to the design but not as crucial in a rock crawling application. An anti-sway bar would help if that's your concern. If only doing 1 end, do the front...if you do the back end, during steep climbs the truck tends to fall over backwards as the rear will "walk out" from under the truck. Thanks for the view & comment 🤙🏻

    It is best if the lever is under some tension. So it doesn't simply flop back and forth. Even a couple rubber bands works.

    The angle/arc of the control arms keeps the coilover's lower mount forward of the shackle's lower mount at full extension so it naturally returns to its forward resting position. I've never had one flip backwards on me one single time. Thanks for the view & comment!

  • @coldsteeloffroad

    @coldsteeloffroad

    3 жыл бұрын

    The force for the rear to extend could be tunable using different density rubber bands (or something similar) to keep the servo horns down against the control arm until the chassis got twisted up enough for the force to overcome the bands. That would be the best of both worlds...rear wouldn't walk out so easily on steel climbs & would still droop under extreme torsion. Never tried it but in theory should work 🤔. Let us know how it goes if you try it. Thanks for the view & kind comments! I'm headed back to live in Hawaii again soon so gonna be bustin' the RC's back out again soon!🤙🏻
