    This is the thing even one day without alcohol is winning. As long as you keep going it’s a win! I had 74 days alcohol free. Then on a Saturday I had one glass of wine and a mango martini. Sure I was a little bummed but I look at it this way 74 days alcohol free now that’s success. And I only had 2 and stopped no problem. I’m now on day number 10 alcohol free. So it’s not failing it’s success remember that! 😊

    Loved the reflections here, Nate, and congrats! 90 days by itself may not come with any magical significance, I agree, but it does represent that for a quarter of a year, you have been living your days the way you want to as a free man, not enslaved to a poison. This is also the “real” quit for me, and, like you, I both “knew it” and knew there was no “reason” behind my quitting on day one. I just woke up one day and knew. Listening to you, I think I know what that was: you’ve decided to quit simply out of respect for yourself and not for any external reason or fear. You really just decide that you deserve better and that you’re damn well gonna give it to yourself; that you are grateful to be alive rather than regretful. I actually find this fascinating, as every time there was something “out there” encouraging/demanding that I quit drinking over the years, my drinking habit found a way to negate every single one. It was only when I was “fed up,” when I truly saw my own flame dying, that I was abusing myself and throwing away my life, that I decided to take it back. On super stressful days I get the craving, but, because of that, it’s clearer to me than ever that the reason I drank was to run away from things. It feels better to be strong now, to face the often cold and hard truths of life with confidence, rather than burying my head in the sand, numbed and dumbed to the world. Thanks for this great video and all prior. You’re really doing something special for all of us. Here’s to the next 90. Take care.

    So happy for you brother! "Fed up" is right! We get to a place where enough is enough. I would look in the mirror at myself when I would wake up in the middle of the night and I was ashamed of who I saw looking back at me. I didn't like the pesron I had allowed myself to become. I used alcohol to deal with all the things I never learned how to deal with on my own. Rather than learning new life skills and working on who I was, I would run to alcohol to numb anything I didn't know how to deal with or things I didn't like about myself. For a long time I thought I had a problem with alcohol, but the truth was I had a problem with me. Once I realized that, I knew working on myself was the only way I would succeed at quitting alcohol. Quitting alcohol is so much bigger than just stopping the flow of alcohol. It took me 20 years to finally realize that. Better late than never! 😀

    Proud of you buddy!!! Been here since day 1 and you have truly been a huge part of me continuing on this journey behind you. What you say is exactly what I have been experiencing. I am starting to actually enjoy life, move foward, and plan for the future. I have lost just over 10 pounds and am eating SO much better and enjoying it. By you doing these videos have not only changed your life, but have changed and motivated many others, including mine. Thank you my friend. Just remember this saying "Aspire to Inspire before you Expire." You are doing that well.

    Subscribed! You're the first person to express exactly my experience. I am 60 days in after 20 years of drinking daily with two bottles of wine and a few beers a night being a usual thing. I didn't have major issues, maintaining a career, staying out of trouble, but just feeling numb, unhappy, and lacking confidence. I needed someone to echo my experience in order to validate it and to assure me. Thanks for the help!

    Congrats and thank you. I finally came to terms with the fact that I've been self medicating with alcohol to mask PTSD issues from my last deployment in 2012. Question for you, I"m 20 days sober right now and it almost seems like my anxiety issues are worse? Is this something you experienced? Due to the brain recalibrating?

  • @sauceainttheboss

    @sauceainttheboss

    Thank you for your service. I used alcohol to deal with my anxiety for 20 years. I definitely felt a surge in my anxiety when I quit. Especially in the first month. I had never dealt with or had to face my anxiety or problems without alcohol. It's what I always used to escape from those issues. There were times in the first month where I would just go out and sit on my deck and just "feel" for lack of a better term. Sometimes for a couple of hours. It was painful and uncomfortable at times, but I had never let myself feel before. I would also go on long hikes and use nature to calm me. Meditation and focusing on breathing helped me as well. 90 days in, I'm much better now. For me, I needed enough time away from alcohol to start realizing and working on the issues I had never dealt with. It gets better brother! Just let yourself feel every day whatever it is you need to feel. I'd rather face and get past all my inner demons now and have a happy life than go back to the misery of being trapped in a bottle. All the best to you!

    Hi Ben, I’ve heard for a couple weeks, alcohol has the ability to physically create withdrawal symptoms. After that, it could be you need to build new relaxation habits as your brain has become weak in that area relying on the crutch of alcohol. Look into exercise and meditation to naturally relieve anxiety
