9 Types of Intelligence

Your intelligence is much more than what grade you got on your math test. In fact, Psychologist Howard Gardner divided intelligence into 9 intelligence types. These are: spatial intelligence, interpersonal intelligence, naturalistic intelligence, logical-mathematical intelligence, musical intelligence, intra-personal intelligence, linguistic intelligence, existential intelligence, and bodily-kinesthetic intelligence. Below is a link to a multiple intelligence quiz that we put together. Let us know what your intelligence type is.

    the video in summary : there are many kinds of intelligence, not just in spacial, verbal or mathematical skills. there are many ways people can be intelligent. the theory of multiple intelligence describes about the nine areas where people can show intelligence. 1. naturalist intelligence 0:53 people with this kind of intelligence has a great capacity to survive in the wild. they can notice the changes in the environment. they have a great ability in distinguishing between objects. 2. musical intelligence 1:29 people having a high musical intelligence have a good sense of rhythm, tone and pitch. they may also possess mathematical intelligence. 3. logical mathematical intelligence 2:02 they are good at abstract, symbolic thought. they have good reasoning skills. 4. existential intelligence 2:27 they are good philosophical thinkers. they like thinking about questions that wouldn't really have a real definite answer. they are curious about the deeper meaning of life. they are not easily confused by their own feelings. 5. interpersonal intelligence 2:50 they are often good at communicating with others. they are good at noticing shifts in others moods and taking multiple perspectives on a subject. they are empathetic and are good at social work, teaching and acting. 6. bodily kinesthetic intelligence 3:15 they love movement. they have great body awareness and excel in activities that involve body movements. 7. linguistic intelligence 3:38 they are better than average in understanding subtle differences in meaning. they tend to pick up new words in languages quicker. they are often found among people who work in public speaking, journalism and so on. they have a broader vocabulary than average. 8. intra personal intelligence 4:16 they are good at understanding their own feelings and thoughts and working them to achieve their goals. they are good at motivating themselves. they are often good philosophers and psychologists. 9. spacial intelligence 4:48 they are good at things that require mental manipulation of physical perspectives. they are very skilled at map reading, jigsaw puzzles and seeing or drawing pictures from a different perspective. they do not get easily lost. (i feel exhausted lol)

    Well, apparently you didn't fit any one of the 9 options completely and perfectly. That's fine, it just means you have to look at it from another perspective. For example, you didn't find that you fit the last one, Spatial Intelligence, but if you're good at drafting then you probably do have some Spatial Intelligence. So, is there anything you're good at? What is your current job? Where have you found success in the past?

There are other talents next to intelligence and you don't need to be smart to be a good person. Just try to be as nice as you can and than it doesn't matter at all how smart you are. I would choose nice people over smart people every single day

    Going to be a nerd here, but there's a concept called meta cognition where you think about how you think. And when you think enough, you start to realize that you actually don't know much. Just like intelligent people are more likely to underestimate themselves, because they know what the competition really is like out there and what it will really take. The same applies here.

  • @Shinom4ever

    @Shinom4ever

    I think Socrates used it to make people ask themselves about the "problems" they run in. He was actually more teacher than a philosopher. However, I don't think is completed related to the knowledge that humans can get from the world. Apart from a mathematic and logical view, the world is acknowledged by our five primal senses, wich works differently between every human. It's that unique perception of the world what makes pure knowledge impossible to reach.

    I know, many people want to be funny by saying they are dumb but now realtalk: This video shows us that everyone has his powers and weaknesses. It makes us feel better because it shows that you have only to find your strengths and you can work on them to get really good in one matter (or more). If there are people out there who think that they haven’t got any pro and only con than they have to talk to themselves and think a bit. You will see, everyone has his own area where he/she feels comfortable because he/she is good in it. What so ever, it shows us that you can’t say: “oh, he is very dumb.” Or stuff like:”He is sooo intelligent.” Because yes, maybe he is really good at one thing but also he is very bad at an other thing. What I mean is that maybe every person is in average same intelligent. The only difference is that the distribution of it is different in every individual. The matter is *how* you use your intelligence. Ah, and good to know, character is an other topic. Also something that means how our psychology is categorised. Well this is for sure a too long text. I’m sorry.

    I actually identify heavily with 6 of the 9 types and agreed partially with the others. For example, I am really bad with abstract mathematics, but it is easy for me to see connections in a lot of phenomena that people tend to overlook. I never cared about getting good grades for the sake of getting the grade, but I am genuinely interested in learning and growing. Both my questions and answers in school have led to feeling misunderstood by teachers (if they simply want to hear their expected answer) several times, while my social and philosophical abilities/ critical thinking have gained the sympathy of other teachers. I am almost done with my Masters in Education at this point, so I am confident that I will be able to cater to various kinds of students and encourage their pleasure in learning. Obviously my explanations didn‘t only apply to my school experience. I also don‘t mean to brag, but actually mean to share a long reflected perspective I have gained for my abilities. As an HSP I didn‘t know what made me so different for a long time and I struggled to take credit for some of my abilities. I hope that if people read this they feel more encouraged to see and stand by their own intelligence - whatever type(s) it may be.

    this is probably one of my favorite videos from psych to go. with this video i came up with a simple rating/score system. i rote all 9 types of intelligence down in a note pad. So for every type of intelligence you can score 1 till 5 points or stars but never 0 points or stars. So the minimal score is 9 and the maximal score would be 45 points. something to try out for your self's. you will notice that the 1th time you rate your self or your score will be or to low or to high. later after 1 month or maybe 3 months you rate your self again for the 2th time and you will see that you realize a more accurate rating over your self. I hope someone of team reads this and gives it a try. greetings from Sebastiaan from Amsterdam

Sometimes Im even able to find out things that Im supposed to learn later on. I sometimes hear that I am very philosophal and I also get to know other persons really quick and Im often able to help others with their problems. Over the last few months I even tried to evolve some other kinds of intelligences too. I also enjoy learning new languages and although Im originally german I nowadays enjoy speaking english and watching/listening English videos and songs more than the german ones. I also succeed in calculating complex mathematical terms in my head instead of using a calculator. I know and I HOPE that more people will feel relatable to this. It just makes me feel wonderful to see that there are so many people with so many cool kinds of cool skills out there and that we all have more than just one of them and I dont feel like Im something better because in my case it is like this but Im just happy and proud of myself because through all this I get all of my self confidence. amber li smart and intelligence can be used as an adjatiave to an extent- but don’t make the mistake of thinking they’re the same. They differ in the sense that- smart is based on applying skills and knowledge, while intelligence is more so intuitive- its in the way that you think. You see, It’s good to use a pc for intuition- a smart pc is one that applies codes to solve a problem- while an intelligent computer is one that derives at its answer without needing codes and fast

    Levobertus well unless you don't have much confidence in yourself you won't find it hard to believe that not knowing what diffusion is or knowing how to do quadratic equations makes you dumb. When it comes down to it School is basically memorizing formula's or remembering definitions and some simple facts just to write them down back on a piece of paper later which is were deligence comes in, cause we all can easily do this but how much of us are willing to or put in hard effort to memorize and practice these things thats just for next week's test? Which reflects no form of problem solving or thinking skills but rather did you remember what we talked about last class with osmosis and how it works?

  • @levobertus

    @levobertus

    7 жыл бұрын

    Damani Campbell i think everyone handles this differently and that's where the problem lies. I personally had a very hard time learning because of my ADHD and I can't bring myself to memorise something that's of no practical use to me or that doesn't interest me, my brain would just block it out, this is why I had very inconsistent grades in my native language lessons or religion, but got As in maths and physics without preparing at all. Other people I know can just eat whole books and memorise them without even understanding what they mean. I find this a bit unfair because in the end, only the memorisation part matters in a test.

    Levobertus sorry to hear about the ADHD but yeah school isn't an actual test of intelligence do your best to get your grades up but keep in mind they don't reflect anything but the classes you pass and maybe how much effort you placed in. Lol I remember when I was in highschool I had inconsistent grades ups and downs 20s to 80s my cousins did mostly better than me so my parents and they called me out saying I act all smarter than them, use big words everytime , but get low grades so they said we should all do an IQ test so they can show that I ain't too bright.long story short on results . They averaged around 90-110 most And I got 130, lol sadly for then the questioned asked weren't anything you could study for.

    The one I know previously to watching this video is intra-personal intelligence. I always know how I feel, but I tend to keep my feelings inside, especially during confrontational instances. Which in turn makes me look apathetic, which is not entirely false. What I'm saying is I do feel emotion, but it's not a large amount, and I still choose to keep it hidden mostly out of fear, and this fear is also just my paranoid self making things up. As for the other categories, I relate slightly to the others, like musical intelligence, reasoning skills from the LMI category. Another one I have greater relation to is the Existential intelligence category, the definition narrator gave is spot on, I love thinking about things that don't have a definite answere, creating my own theories only to push that one away when another one comes to mind, but not totally forgetting it. I question almost everything, constantly searching for answeres to why and how. As for the other categories, well I'm going to improve them in some way, no matter how small.

    I'm solid in 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, and 8; but I'm lacking in experience but am comfortable with 3, 6, 9. Brilliance and excellence triumph yet again folks. Your Intelligence gauges your personality (day month you were born) in how you accomplish your goals, dreams, and aspirations, while the nature (the year you were born) the intellect is the tying factor in how not only you perceive yourself in the world but how your perception of others and how they view you. It's neat 👍 Thank you Psych2Go team and channel for providing such well rounded digestible information in a fun 😊 way. Brava. Magnifico!

    @@thunderwolf3042 I'm not a koreaboo. Just because I have this picture doesn't mean I'm fetishizing korean. Okay if I put the picture of an anime here or a Hollywood artist, should I be called Japanboo or whatever boo you want to call it? I'm idolizing a korean so it's pretty natural to put him into my profile but that doesn't mean I'm a koreaboo. And I'm sorry if I noticed his/her mistake, I'm rude. Okay.

    @@jeonieejeon948 first off, you put a period before "and" so this just proves that once agin, your spelling and sentence structures aren't any better than the person you tried to correct. Secondly, "idiolizing" is proving your a koreaboo because you just have to be on that person's nut sack and you can't seem to let go of that person for whatever reason. Thirdly, you seem like a nice person but if your going to correct someone, make sure you can do it before you attempt to correct someone else. Last but not least, i hope you have a wonderful day. :D

    I think this video is important because people are so quick to deem other people stupid. The problem with deciding that someone is stupid is that they might be really smart in one area but maybe socially they’re stupid and that’s why you think they’re stupid. Because they were stupid in a social setting or really weird communicators. Or maybe they sound really stupid when they speak because linguistics in not their strong suit so you think they’re stupid. But they might be really good spatially or musically or mathematically. I used to be really quick to say that someone is stupid but I think often times people are pretty smart in at least one of these categories Thanks for this video

    I didn't even know I was in some way smart. In school I've just this year realised that I'm really good at reading maps. I had no idea it was a part of spacial intelligence! That really described me a lot, since also artistic skills are included.
