My biggest gripe with Skyrim was the faction quests. If you wanted to complete one you had to compromise on your role playing - For the companions you HAVE to become a Werewolf. I'd rather continue ascending the ranks outside of the circle and refound the companions like we end up doing anyway - In the Thieves Guild you HAVE to swear your soul to Nocturnal. Just generally a horrible idea in every single way just to collect a few extra gems and also my custom thief gear is so much better than the nightingale and thieves guild gear combined - In the Dark Brotherhood you HAVE to stand back as you watch everyone fall apart whereas the listener has the authority of the Night mother to actually do something and we could have saved everyone - The Civil Wars only change for winning is that the Stormcloak victory removes Thalmor and Empire patrols and prison convoys. That's it. No influencing Ulfric to remake Windhelm or see better reason, no way to make your intentions known other than the options we give, no way for the empire to regulate Thalmor activities using political pressure - The only redeeming quality of the College of Winterhold was the appearance of a "dead" guild but I still ended up crying into my mage tomes every night due to boredom and I could have averted the entire crisis if I just stabbed Ancano and threw his body off the fortress into the sea of ghosts for the mudcrabs to eat. Literally no one would miss him - THE WHOLE BARDS COLLEGE QUEST LINE IS A DUNGEON DIVE BUT THE ONLY DIFFERENCE FROM THE OTHERS IS THE PARTY AFTERWARDS - The worst thing is how nobody ever cares and has 100% sass towards you at all times *Saves the college and the Entirety of Winterhold* "So what were you doing in Saarthal, MAGE!?" "Ffs" *Fireballs Guard* "Next time I'll just let the damn town be destroyed" Anyway I think I've made my point. I browse Nexus every few weeks or so looking for Faction Quest redesign mods so I can do things that actually matter without selling my soul to all 16 princes

One of my few complaints for Skyrim is the lack of immersion and lack of a dynamic gameplay environment. There are no serious, dramatic consequences for your actions and character choices, something that Oblivion had and especially something that Morrowind had extensively. It made the world much more enjoyable and surreal, because characters and events would go accordingly based on what you did. In Skyrim, almost all of that is gone, with all endings being vague and unclear, regardless of your moral alignment or factional choices.

In terms of how much choices matter, Morrowind is even better. Advancing the Mages Guild makes being in House Telvani problematic. You can't lead the Thieves Guild and the Fighters Guild with the same character. There's also no such thing as an essential character. You simply can't do everything in the game on one save file. There is less choice in Oblivion and less than that in Skyrim. And with less choice the choices you make also matter less.

The best combat would be a hybrid of Morrowind and Oblivion. Morrowind actually makes leveling skills feel necessary and rewarding. In Oblivion you can use anything, but you don't get the perks for a while. My perfect combat system would be one that pits weapon skill vs armor and block skill of the opponent in calculating damage or armor negating hits. What missed in The dice roll to hit system is that missed hits can be seen as not doing damage due to armor.

Factions had enemy any ally factions, and everybody remembered who you had aligned with. But yeah, I can't argue with a single point made in the video.

Oblivion was more interesting to adventure in. You never knew what you were going to encounter in its many forts, ruins, caves, and crypts. There was a huge amount of creatures and monsters. Skyrim just felt like Draugers, forlorn, skeletons, Draugers, and more Draugers. And oblivions crypts were much creepier then anywhere in Skrim.
I'd disagree on the DLC side of things. Shivering Isles was awsome! No doubt! But the 3 DLC's of skyrim added a lot! Downgard gave us new magic spells, a new weapon type, skill trees for werewolf and vampire as well as some nice locations, enemys, gear and lore. Hearthfire gave us a new housing mecanic. For me at least it was varry rewarding to collect the materials and muild my own home, where I was able to have my own household. It also gave an awsoem foundation for some mods. Last but in no way least Dreagonborn! We got an awsome nostalgic trip to a location we know with awsome Morrowind vibes! We got new spells, starf crafting, new mecanics with black books, Apocrypha as a new deadric plane. Don't get me wrong I love Shivering Isles, Knights of the Nine and many of the smaler DLC's of Oblivion. But the amount of mecanics and Morrowind nostallgia the Skyrim DLC's added as well as the amount of content, I think Skyrim makes the race. But no doubt it is a close call and individual preference might make the difference here.

Even after ten playthroughs, I have no idea what the separate chapters in the spell book mean, or which spells are where. Only being able to have one quest active in the compass and map also really sucked. Another thing that Oblivion did a lot worse than Skyrim was dungeons, especially the cave type ones. They are were extremely tiny, with barely a foot of room around the character to walk through.. and they all looked and felt the same. The only really nice dungeons were the Ayleid ruins.

You make spells with the main damage dealer being "shock" still slow but it is slightly faster, then give the spell effects an AOE and it becomes much better

I do agree tho that they both have their flaws, but I think it boils down to playstyle and what effort people are willing to put in when they game which is fine

@riffbw

I love the fact this can be done with Fallout 3/NV vs Fallout 4 as well. There are so many gosh darn things that were done better in the first generation of 3D Fallout games vs the 2nd generation of them. To a point I will fist fight someone over whether Fallout 3 and NV were far superiors games over all then Fallout 4 and 76 even when it comes to gameplay.
Idk I heard so many people loved Oblivion, but I wasn't enjoying it too much when I played. I will acknowledge I played it after Skyrim, so I was tainted. But I agree that side quests were better in Oblivion, they weren't just fetch quests. However, I do need to say that the cities in Skyrim are all the same layout because that's in line with Norse culture. The great hall in the center and then the city built right around it in lines.
I always thought the characters in oblivion had a weird wide faced look. I remember when it came out thinking Morrowind looked so much better. I thought it was downgrade lookwise. Thankfully Skyrim fixed that and the characters look much better.

Also I ran everywhere in Oblivion to get every location, specifically to increase Athletics. Reward the player for exploring every inch of the world.
"Dawnguard made a whole generation realize they liked goths." Yeah, that has to do with Laura Bailey's sweetness voicing Serana. Its very pleasing to my ears lol. One thing I didn't like about Oblivion is having to sleep to level up
I really enjoyed the way potion making and spell making was done in Oblivion, I hope they bring that back
I also miss the character creation. Cant be OP in everything. I may be a Morrowind fanboy, but I loved how certain guild quests would prevent you from completing other guilds due to beef between guilds and deleting other leaders etc. preventing that satisfying 100% completion in one run through. I miss the acrobatics stat 🥺 Also the fantasy feel of stepping into another world that morrowind gave was phenomenal! Oblivion has some fun ecosystems but the buildings didn’t give me that fanciful feeling. But also I understand since it’s pretty much where all of the imperials live.

If they don't have spellcrafting, guilds as good as Oblivions, and a story closer to the Morrowind era, I probably won't buy it. This all depends on where the game takes place, though. The thing that most annoys me about Elder Scrolls is that each successive game does certain things way better than its predecessors and other things way worse. I genuinely can't say whether or not Morrowind, Oblivion, or Skyrim is the best because they're all so very different. They're all great, yet also severely flawed.
The melee combat was so much fun in Oblivion. The NPC would run away in fear if you hit them fast enough
What happened to the thieves guild video??
Totally agree, I really like Skyrim; but Oblivion is just a better experience. I really hope that Elder Scrolls 6 is more Oblivion than Skyrim, but based on Fallout 76 and Starfield, I seriously doubt it.
When I first played Skyrim, I just thought, "What the hell, Oblivion was better." I still think Oblivion did a lot of things better than Skyrim did, but Skyrim is still my most played game of all time simply because of everything you can fix with mods. If I compare only the vanilla games, Oblivion wins hands down for me.
One day can you make a list of your environment mods for skyrim 🙃
Wow, normally I'm cynical about videos with this kind of title but you were DEAD on with this one. Truth is, the TES series has gotten dumbed down EVERY release since Daggerfall. Daggerfall's spell and magic item creation was world class, and the faction system was almost TOO complex, LOL.
"Mmafter all." "Mmand sure..." Dude you're killing me.
best skyrim youtuber ! keep at it!

I severely disagree with the "Oblivion had the better UI" theory. Skyrim works fine for me, and I *hate* the Oblivion UI. The only really nice dungeons were the Ayleid ruins.

really thought you were going to say dawnguard made an entire generation. . . simp for Serana!
Love the content fall damage!
The two lead writers of morrowind and oblivion left after fallout 3. Thats why the quests since has been going downhill ever since. The writers they have today are so bad they should get fired.
Hard agree with all but especially ESPECIALLY the absence of the class system... I've been creating a compilation of the classic Elder Scrolls classes in Enairim cause I miss character classes so much...
At least we have Skyblivion and a Oblivion remaster coming

coming in 203X lmao
I feel bad with khajiit on oblivion 😂😂
I tried going back to Oblivion and I just couldn't get past how outdated it feels and plays. Skyrim to me is still the goat.

This applies to a lot of series. Over time, gameplay, character, story, and unique mechanics have been set aside and compensated for the next gen graphics and controls. It's really frustrating
Patrick Stewart and Sean Bean.
Magic in Skyrim is a joke. Oblivion was streets ahead.
Compared to Oblivion, the cities in Skyrim are a joke. It would have been nice to get at least one real city. Solitude doesn't quite cut it. Perhaps the upgraded engine couldn't handle it or they ran out of time?
Does Oblivion support VR yet? Skyrim VR is arguably the most immersive VR game ever released.
say thank you to tod howerd
