If you're a Viking fan and you want JJ to fail, then you aren't a Viking fan.

I don't want him to fail, but I don't have to put my head in the sand when it is time to criticize him. I think it's worse when people are borderline delusional about the kid.

Kinda like wanting the captain to fail when you're on his boat.

@@DaggetSWG Your response doesn't address jdbly's staement. At all. In fact, it sounds more like you're preparing to pounce the second he makes a mistake in a game. Which I see as the same thing as wanting him to fail. His first year will likely be pretty "meh," and you sound like you're prepping the anti-McCarthy talking points already. The key to this is your use of "when" it's time to criticize him, not "if" it's time to criticize him. Keep your powder dry and try to be a bit more optimistic. It's better for your heart.

@@stuartanderson6785 I don't think being skeptical about the prospects of a player, or critical of their play, means you "aren't a fan" of a team. What is there to address beyond that? I hope he does well, but I've been through enough players, especially QB's, to know better than to get super high on a player with little or no professional sample size.
People need to stop wanting to see him fail. Sorry you didn't get your QB but that doesn't mean you have to want the team to fail.

Agreed it makes no sense. Like why do people put their ego above their team? I really wanted Drake Maye. But we got JJM and now he's my QB that I wanna see lift Lombardies

Yeah, it's kinda like if who you voted for to be president doesn't win and you hope the country falls apart under whoever else wins.
The wager was an incredible leadership move. The defense will try even harder, building chemistry and trust as a unit. Win or lose for the defense, it is a big positive morale hit and team building event, either celebrating or doing the grind together and vowing to get McCarthy next time. By McCarthy taking the punishment on his own, it is also a team building event for his offense. They want to protect their guy. They respect him for his follow through and want to help him to win next time. Great way to build chemistry and trust. A+ leadership move, win or lose.

Totally agree
Glad we got JJ. Now he just needs to sit till he's ready. No need to rush.
So glad I found your podcast, I really like your presentation of everything Viking. Skol Vikings!!!~
Lions fan here and I love the kid
Bro, amazing content and commentary...JJ is the real deal
I heard from the NFL combine that the scouts said McCarthy put in one of the better quarterback displays they had seen in years. He runs in the 4.4s, so he's got that run threat that I think KOC and KAM are looking for in a quarterback-something that Cousins could not do. It's that dual threat that sets Mahomes and the great quarterbacks ahead of the rest. Time will tell if McCarthy can place himself in the upper echelon of quarterbacks.
I already ordered my JJ jersey. I love this kid and I think we stole the draft this year.
Let's see what this young man has. Sounds like he is willing to learn, and thus grow as a player. He is a football player and not just an athlete.
Just sayin I said a while ago - Tark, Kapp, JJMac, these will be our most cherished Vike memories our most loved and respected QBs.... This is going to be good.

JJ is going to light the NFL on fire! 🔥 SB in 2025 and more to follow 😎
Let's not forget a certain chiefs QB who also was drafted at 10. We never know what will happen until it happens

The ONLY guy I would've taken above JJ is Maye -- and that's only by a little bit. The fact that Kwesi saved next year's 1st and also picked up Dallas Turner??? Dayum. That's a win no matter how you slice it. We've also found out that punchable Sean Payton wanted JJ as well and had to settle for Nix, so that's another win for us. JJ is the man and I am 100% behind him. I expect bumps along the road and I simply don't care. He'll learn, grow and will either fail or succeed on his own merits. No reason to expect anything but success and a long tenure in Minnesota! Go JJ! P.S. The guy could play like ass his first season, but if he shows that he is learning from his mistakes I don't give a damn.
I been a Vikings fan since, Jim Marshall intercepted a ball and ran it in for a safety. JJ Mac will do well. I don’t think I have seen a QB come in, who ran a NFL offense. I would sit him in year one. just to insure, he doesn’t get overwhelmed. He will be OK.

Jim Marshall picked up a fumble and ran it the wrong way. But, Vikings fans don’t talk about that anymore.
I wouldn't worry about him starting this year, let Darnold prep for this season.... The kid is only 21😎

@user-xm5pj2cs6n JJ McCarthy said, " I'm ready to get back to work" and most of us are ready for that too. Your Obama care has nothing to do with it. Lol
Elevating fun competition is how
All signs point to him being a great quarterback !
Viks got the right guy
JJ has more than enough arm strength to be an elite NFL QB ....He has better arm strength than either of the Manning bros, Kirk, or 75% of the QB's in the league right now ...The 2 biggest things any QB in the NFL needs are Processing and Accuracy and We'll know sooner than later if he has that.... I think he does and he has the work ethic and attitude you want in a Leader..The Sky is the limit for this Kid!!
I hope and pray you are right about JJ
Feel kinda bad for Penix, sitting behind Kirko... Except there is a chance that he looks better in Training camp and the preseason. What then? Penix has a chance to bump the $100 million guy off his pedestal. He's got a better arm, much more quickness in and around the pocket. Kirk better be healthy for that first game, baby...
The way the coaching staff develops & uses him will be the make or break... He will be NFL ready at some point... Maybe this year, but I want Jaren to be competitive too
LoL where have I heard this before 😂😂
Ohhhhhh, I just wish that we would take a deep breath and WAIT to see what we have in JJ versus creating these associations as to why he will be great. Case in point… winning. He wasn’t the 1st, 2nd or even 3rd best player on that Michigan Championship team. His job was to hand the ball off and occasionally complete a 3rd down pass. Does that mean he can’t be great (See Tom Brady his first 3 years in the NFL)? No, but let’s just give the young brother some time and not set him up with inflated expectations.

Except that if McCarthy wasn’t the QB, Michigan doesn’t win the Natty. McCarthy’s mental, emotional, and physical traits allowed Harbaugh to run the offense he wanted. None of the other prospects could have operated that offense as efficiently. The volume stats guys love to discredit McCarthy’s role in Michigan. Very few guys can handle the type of pressure he was under, stay humble, and continue to thrive every week. They depended on him to sustain drives on 3rd and long. He was expected to succeed without any gimme plays to warm him up and get him in rythym. He didn’t pad his stats in garbage time - he rode the bench or they just ran the ball when the game was in hand. They had a phenomenal defense, so McCarthy never got to air it out against prevent defenses when trailing in a shootout. All of his passing stats occurred during meaningful moments. And he delivered. Excels under pressure. Excellent passer on the run. Elite arm velocity. Elite lateral agility and burst. Excellent overall athleticism and can make plays with his feet. His athleticism and arm talent translate to the NFL. Elite EQ, leadership, and intangibles. Proven winner on two high school teams and at Michigan. Played in a pro style system in college and demonstrated NFL skills that translate and that the other top prospects still have to learn. (Snaps under center, calling plays in the huddle, play action from under center, making adjustments at the line of scrimmage.) The fantasy football, back of the football stats, volume stats guys have it twisted. McCarthy was my top QB prospect for the Vikings and second QB prospect overall (behind Daniels, who isn’t a system fit for KOC).

@@RiftsnDrifts You are being emotional. Based on how JJ was used, Michigan could have won the championship with ANY QB drafted this year.
Rings McCarthy is just going to build on his success and championship legend.
Seems like there's way too many Vikings fans who wanted Drake Maye or other QB and just want JJ to fail so they can say I told you so or that they were right. I stg a LARGE number of JJ haters would rather be right about him busting than him working out and being great.
Haters need to stop, give this kid a chance. He isn’t Ponder. Seems like some of you actually want to see him fail. He won’t. Sorry. We won’t know till he shows it in games but I am betting he will. Comparisons to Ponder are ridiculous. Get real
@PurpleFTW what do you think makes him better than previous QB’s we’ve taken a swing at??
@arvieweathers294
20 күн бұрын
Everything about him makes him better than any qb u seen our team draft. Why? Because he a top 10 pick qb our franchise 1st and he special.
As an outsider looking into the Vikings, I will say that I am a fan of Aaron Jones, so I will be following the Vikings this season for that reason. With that being said... I think the Vikings should have drafted Bo Nix instead of McCarthy, but that is irrelevant at this point. So with McCarthy - "Patients is the Key to the Universe," so relax in your recliner, grab a beer in one hand, and a your football in the other and just watch!
I guarantee that McCarthy will work on Tuesdays.
9:00 that’s why you draft for talent, especially that high
People hate JJ because.... He's not on they're team, or because he's a Viking? Maybe both. Let the kid prove himself first!!!!
he honestly needs to sit for a year to develop i mean i sound like a couch gm but he learns the game speed and how they operate just saying i mean let darnold do his thang until then dont fk it up
why you saying caleb is gonna bust, when he's going into a positive offensive situation very similar to the vikings?

Robo QB...You mean like Kirk?
You get waaaay to excited about the Vikings... they are experts in choking or screwing up one way or another.. This kid threw a few balls wearing a red jersey and no NFL quality pass rushers... Let's not crown the kid yet. No way he wins starting spot this year either.
Im okay with everyone esleeping on us. We finished with the same record as the Bears last year. One of those teams played half a season without a QB, (ended up rotating between 3 QB 2's), wiithout a WR1, without a Probowl TE, and with a Rookie RB. That same team have upgraded in defence, and despite losing their single best defensive player, added most Big Boards top defensive player in the draft. So yeah, sleep on us. Truly we are clearly deluded in thinking we are going to be better.
