The only thing I will clarify is that H.265 is more intensive on your computer not less. H.264 takes up more space but is less compressed so it doesn’t take up as much processing power to manage. The main advantage is space. H.265 fits more data in less space.

Yes, that is true, even for smartphone to handle it is quite difficult unless you have a flagship. H264 takes more space but it it demands less resources to process and it is way more compatible with devices

I saw lots of video of this camera today and yea, I really think I want to buy one, but, for me insta360 Go3 still the best action cam, due it’s size, features and most important magnetics. When the camera is out of the pod I just shoot in freeframe mode and it’s amazing, the big downsize is only shoot 1440p. I’m so exited to know how it will come the new go4. I hope they include 4k in freeframe mode. 360 cameras are amazing, because when you are recording you don’t need to pay attention too much on the frame, but the downsize is it will take more work on post production.

Good point. All the shots I've seen are in relatively bright light. The sensor size hasn't changed and Insta360 doesn't publish sensor resolutions, so it's hard to tell if this is the same sensor as the X3 with AI upscaling or actually a higher resolution sensor - in which case, smaller pixels and worse low light performance.

The design is the same but the size is bigger as the X4 is slightly bigger than the X3.

Does the Dji mic 2 work with Bluetooth on?

I am going to do a thru hike with my daughter in Spain. I was thinking of purchasing a DJI Action 4 to take along with us. Now I’m wondering if I would be better off with this? I don’t care for the distorted appearance, does the Me mode get rid of that? What is your opinion? Which would you take?

For sure the X4, actually DJI (outside of drones of course) and Go Pro really can’t compete with insta360. The distortion you can easily fix in post in seconds in the insta360studio.

The X4 with the Mic 2... ache in the wallet stuff! But first I will check out your X3 X4 comparison. In real world situations is the X4 that much better resolutionwise?

I have the X2 and love it except for that little round screen. I like that they added the snap on lens cover. I have the stick on. It works great but this will be better. I may pick this one up due to the resolution increase. I use mine to record motorcycle rides. It is great for that. Will keep the X2 as a second camera on the bike.

The X4 will take more effort to edit if you use it in 360 but you have a lot of flexibility because of the reframing aspect. It will depend on your workflow and what you want it for.

Yeah, at some point I'll do a full vlog with the X4. All footage was shot in 8K, except the low light footage and Me Mode footage. Yeah, external mic can be plugged in via USB-C.

@ 4:52 - is this labeled correctly? You say you feel the one on the right looks better but the left shows more highlights in the sky and more details in your hair (in my opinion). I wasn't sure if the 8K was mislabeled....

I’m on the fence about about upgrading my X3… I’m still using my Osmo pocket 3 like crazy. I love that camera! However, I do like the fact that the new X4 has 8K 30. I own a real estate media company in San Antonio. (aka Military City) I often times cannot get clearance to fly my drone due to military exercises and fly zones… So being able to shoot in 8k for those fake drone shots may just be worth the upgrade. I think I’ve talked myself into it. 😂

Honestly, I didn't upgrade to the X3 because after looking at the specs, other than H.246 I wouldn't really gain anything else of use to me. Naturally as soon as the X4 came out, I went here to see what you had to say about it. Now, I'm rather astonished that Insta still does not have a way to record external _stereo_ audio. The Pocket 3 is on another planet with audio compared to this. Those adaptors are all mono, and apparently it can only source one Bluetooth mic at a time. I really wonder if plugging the Mic 2 RX into the USB-C port will record stereo.... At least one can use the individually recorded tracks from the external mics but that would require one to first do the reframed editing in the Insta360 app, export that video and use it as a media clip in another editor that allows adding audio tracks. Good thing I'm an actual mixing and mastering engineer!

for full stick invisibility will you have to turn away from the sun so that it doesn't cast a shadow?

If you do that you'll be filming with the sun behind you, which for cameras with little sensors isn't ideal for the quality of the footage.

It's wonderful to see a woman who doesn't describe what she pairs a white shirt with 5 days of the week, but professionally and clearly explains technology. A real enrichment alongside the army of white old men on KZread. More women! Keep it up!

I was about to pull the trigger on the pocket 3, and now I'm stuck again. They're both great id say, and both would work for what i intend to use them for, a mix of vlog and pov photo walks... Any advice that could unstuck me?

Yes - the Insta360 x4 has a removable battery which means the overall life of the product isn't connected to the overall life of a recharable battery...it also means you can easily have another battery and keep on going all day. The Pocket 3 is more fragile - the Insta360 gives you so much more possible footage...

But you also have to bear in mind that the workflow with the X4 is longer than that of the Pocket 3 because you will need to reframe your footage when you shoot in 360, but the reframing is also the upside.

@@TamaraGabrielUK Yes it's a huge time suck initially but it's exciting to see what's possible - I have the pocket 2 and it's so easy to use, just start talking with a lot less profile than a regular camera - but you still have to know what you want to get for b-roll...whereas with the x4 you could effectively do your talk and naturally be getting some b-roll along the way, just have to reframe while editing...

Hey. Tamara, you get 9.5 out of 10 for this video. I want to give you .5 you might get annoyed with so 9.5 it is. GREAT video! You have outstanding content.

In terms of video it looks so cool but I'm concerned about audio. To this time I wanted to find review with internal audio BUT here.... what the hell happened with audio when you transmit it via BT to Rode receiver? I also have Rode Wireless Go and audio should be quite crisp and very similar (no matter if you record internal in transmitter or on some device from receiver). Do you know why audio was so bad?

So we just have 8k now is the only difference between the x3 and x4 with minor upgrades to software/hardware.

Just tested this out at NAB. The lens guards are a problem. You can see them in your footage even with a little amount of dirt. I don’t know how to explain it but the footage is shifty and the guards stay in place. One of the employees said they need to work on that and don’t realize it does that…

How is the Insta360 X4 in low light ?

Hi Tamara, I've got an Insta 360X4 that I use it particularly for B roll. My normal editing is on CapCut but at present I am obviously editing the 360X4 footage first. I tend to edit each clip I want then export for use in CapCut. All rather tedious. Is there a better way?

Hi. Not that I’ve found. That’s currently the way I do it too when using the footage on Instagram. Otherwise, it’s the same process on desktop with the Insta360 Studio app, to reframe, export and use the footage in FCPX.

Another great video edit. Don’t think I’m sold on it. I have enough cameras now it’s getting to be ridiculous. I even have cameras and lower versions of those cameras that I can’t sell. One day we’re going to a giant back log of electronics laying in a landfill somewhere. I don’t see what benefit it would be for me to go out and spend several hundred dollars on a camera when I have a mini 4 pro drone, an iPhone with a Hohem gimbal and an action 4. Sometimes I think the only benefit is for those who review these things so they can make new videos talking about them.

Isit better then dji pocket 3? Which one would u say is better?

Two very different cameras.

Hi Tamara, I have an DSLR that i use for family trips, but i'm always complaining about the cam being a bit on the way regarding long hikes with the dogs, or just on the streets. Would you say that this X4 is a good option to combine with a dslr if i'm looking for stills more than video? or perhaps could i drop my bulky cam at home and carry this one?

Hey. I wouldn't choose this for stills. If you want something small that takes great photos I'd look at the DJI Osmo Pocket 3.

Buyer beware on all these videos - this is KZreadr influencer at its HIGHEST - the embargo has lifted - there are 50 videos out there about this "ACTION CAMERA" - and what NONE OF THEM TELL YOU - is that these lenses are DELICATE - like you WILL SCRATCH the lens in snow - or on a bike trail - or a dropping it on a table - and then - it will cost (at least it did on previous models) $99 to fix it - or all your footage will have a smudge from the scratch. Also - you have to write an email to them explaining it - then wait 4 weeks for a reply - then fill out a form and pay the $99 plus shipping - to CHINA - then - wait another 4 weeks - until you get our camera back.....ALL of these videos got a FREE camera - and then went snowboarding - and if they had to pay $500 for the camera - then another $99 if they dropped it in the snow - which WILL scratch it - they would not use it. The lens guards dont work - in fact I had one scratch my actual lens when the camera hit the ground while not even snowboarding - SLEDDING on a bunny hill! BUYER BEWARE! These are just commercials for free cameras given to influencers.

I read some reviews that the X3 was better, can't wait for your comparison 😊

Hu, why don't I see any mention on Utube this camera's use as a vlogging camera?😮

It's funny about the invisible selfie stick. While you talk about not being able to see him, I see his shadow on your clothes. Anyway, this "invisible" stick: I've seen so many Insta 360 videos in the last year, and since most of them are taken outside in the sunlight, the "invisible" selfie stick is a permanent visible companion, in the form of its shadow. It just looks stupid. I think the Osmo Pocket 3 is much cooler for vlogging. The fact that you're constantly scanning your surroundings front and back while vlogging with the X3 or X4 doesn't make any sense to me. Just makes me nervous and uneasy. And then we will now definitely see 1000 images of the “globe effect”, only in 8K. And still no 1inch sensor. That doesn't give good values in lowlight.
