I think that was a really smart metaphor for the different time periods the games are based on: Red Dead Redemption Era - People was more down to earth and genuinely cared about each other. Grand Theft Auto V Era - People are chasing money and don't take things too seriously anymore.

I even felt bad when the Murphy brood guys sho at me and I HAD to kill them since they said they wouldn’t kill me if I didn’t come there again. I camped in the same area and didn’t realize it. I got shot at and killed them and fe,t really bad since I knew it was my fault

Breezhome 318 I’ve gone back to gta online, the story of RDR2 is way better but no matter how good it is that’s still only the short term experience, the long term experience is online and that’s where gta beats it, it’s like they don’t even try with RDO. And I’m not even talking about the vast difference in terms of content, I’m talking about core game features and mechanics aka the freedom of HOW you play the game.

Because Arthur and Jhon were good guys in the inside even if they made bad decisions in the past, and their stories are about redemption, thats why when they die its heartbreaking. In GTA the characters are all dicks with no likeable traits and they never make an effort to improve upon their last life.

when i played gta v, i just felt like i was a spectator. dont get me wrong, i love gta, but when i played rdr, i felt involved in the game, like i was there. if i were to play gta and i saw someone stranded on the road, i wouldnt care. but with rdr, me seeing characters stranded and in need, it would literally make me feel bad for those characters and would want to help them. when i saw arthur die, it almost brought me to tears. when i killed michael, i thought “damn that sucks hes dead” and i continued playing. please everyone who takes time to read this, remember that this is my opinion. and thank you for reading 😊

My father watched me play RDR2 to completion like it was a tv series. He was recovering from spinal surgery and I had at my house for 8 weeks, he couldn't play it himself as it made him dizzy he said, but as a testament to how well it was written and the storyline he said it was one of the best Westerns he's ever seen.

The atmosphere is so much better in red Dead. Especially the ending missions. The music really puts you in the game and was a great addition

It might be a better game overall but gta V was never boring RDR2 felt like a 5 hour movie and a real life simulator where if you don't follow the specific path to the most miniscule detail the devs layed out for you... mission failed! You had way more freedom to approach each mission in gta also the missions weren't as repetitive towards the end end in gta you can actually chose the ending you could choose either take out the world order along your 2 best friends or being a fucking bitch!

I think the thing that make rdr2 so much better is historical encounters and gangs like the the old civil war battlefield in Rhodes, the civil war veterans across the map, civil war knifes and weaponry and the gangs it’s the little things you start to notices and love. Also I found a frozen Spanish Settler and stole his helmet.

@@kolloselgd yeah story was better but I enjoyed gta 5's story as well. as far as shooting yeah you might be right but open world immersion was much more advanced in gta 5 imo. there were much more things to do in gta 5 too. online went crap after a point but in its entire lifetime gta 5 was better than rdr1. it is just an opinion, and if anything gta 4 was far better than these two in terms of story and character development, only rockstar protagonist that can rival niko is arthur. again, that's an opinion.

I started my second playthrough back in November/December of 2018 and still playing it a year later. I'm at 46% of the story and still discovering new things. Just taking it super slow this time.

I have played gta ever since I was very little (don’t judge) I love it loads but there is something about red dead that’s really special. It has so much to do and there is so much detail in anything. I’ve never cared more about characters in a video game or horses. I cried my eyes out at the end

God for me it took 60 hours for the main game and then another 20 for the epilogue, I did do some side missions but not too many, although I did get distracted sometimes, I wouldn’t say it would take 300 hours, but it could definitely take longer than I took to do it

it would be dope if RDR3 entered into the GTA universe. With an evolving map and into the story, the founding of Las Venturas. It could start in the early 1900's to the 60's through the late 80's before the events of San Andreas. The kind of stories they could tell, from the old west to the mob ran 60's and 70's until the corporate takeover with a Steve Wynn type as an antagonist.

Gta 5 didn't have any emotions just story and getting monny... Gta 4 had a great story though

You forgot that npcs have lifes in rdr2 that if you follow them around for a day you can see

Excellent list; one point you made really stuck with me, and that was the point about the Wanted system in each game. In GTA V you can walk right down the street with a minigun and wipe out every single living thing in a 2 mile radius but after you die/get arrested npcs, whether they are cops or regular civilians going about their day have completely forgotten about your murderous rampage. The media outlets don’t mention it at all unless it’s strictly an event in the main story. However the people of Red Dead Redemption 2 on the other hand remember everything; it’s possible you took the life of their loved one and they will make sure you don’t forget that anytime soon. I’ve had multiple npcs walk up to me and scream and curse me for slaughtering their husbands and sons, and I can’t even lie and say I didn’t feel at least a twinge of guilt. Red Dead Redemption 2 at least made you feel like you were having major impacts on the world around you due to your actions, and people would act accordingly, whether your actions were good or bad. That mechanic wasn’t just a feature of the main story but also present in the actual free roam game.

After 1 k hours in GTA V I can definetly say that I ll buy RDR2 in the future

It had some grind - thier are lots of things that you can only get with gold bars , but you can earn them ingame . I've never bought any gold bars and have accessed everything possible .

The Red Dead series only with 2 games is miles above the GTA series. Only GTA 4 can compete with them

What about GTA San Andreas? And the rdr series a newer series to us than the GTA games. Rdr2 has the benefits of the current generation consoles where as of GTA 4 and 5 did not and where programed into the older generation consols which greatly reduced what rockstar could do with them

You know finishing red dead 2 on 100% is easy there is so much to do you can never get bored of it but in gta 5 guess how much i completed the game on 100% 0 yea 0 times i its that boring.

gta 5 online died 2 years when they started adding all those over price dlc most lobbies are just bunch of so called tryhards

Gta 5 is only a good game because of online but there whill be never a better single player game than rdr2

I guess the whole gta series has its own way to be a game, usually being irreverent! Aaand, Red Dead Redemption series has its own way to be a game being more serious. I don't think we should compare these series 'cause they're not supposed to be the same. They're different and that's fine!! :)
