I've worked in the fashion industry for 40 years, and these tips are 100% right on. I wish sales people in fashion understood how to fit customers ! Things like batwing sleeves or turtlenecks for my 36G build.. seriously ! So unflattering. And the wide belts ! Arrgh ! so true. This video 10/10

@@PetiteDressingit was a great video but it hurt to see some of my favourite clothes shown as a do not wear. The batwing shirts and thigh-fitting jeans that I love, are a bad combo for my short and apple-shaped body. I have to seriously consider my wardrobe after your video:D At least my love for A line dresses is in line with your advice:D Thank you for your videos!:)

These are great tips. I would also add: 1) look for vertical elements, like vertical stripes, buttons all down the front, and pants and shorts with proper center creases ironed in; and 2) avoid very thin straps such as spaghetti straps on tops and dresses, on shoes, and belts narrower than one inch, these delicate details emphasis the heaviness of full figures, wider straps on tops and dresses visually cut the chest width and very thin belts or straps make the figure look bigger than it is. I would also avoid very dainty shoes, slightly chunkier ones make the legs look thinner, so choose block heels rather than stilettos. A larger figure teetering on delicate stiletto-heeled shoes make the body look out of proportion, and get shoes that don’t squeeze the flesh of the feet or legs.

I disagree with thin straps and dainty shoes part. If you look into Kibbe typology, you'll learn that some petite, curvy figures have enough dramatic angles to them (like, sharp elbows or sharply shaped waist). They tend to look their best with soft, flowy shapes, finished with something angular, animated, almost dramatic. They are made for daintier shoes and thin straps, of course to a certain body size, for very plus size women more balance is welcome. Still, I feel that you are a good observer and I strongly recommend to look into Kibbe to become even better. I'm still learning this myself :) have a good one

Totally support you and your enthusiasm to get the word out there that us petite girls just need to be in on a few hacks to look longer and lithe in our form! Your tips are amazing, and unlike other channels, you always illustrate the tip so we can have a clear visual of what is a Do and a Don't! I also love watching you because, my skin tone is the same... and I like seeing what colors match you, hence i know they will match me too. Wishing you lots of luck and health!

I'm really impressed.I really haven't found a channel like yours that talk about fashion that are the best in different body shapes and those that do not fall under the body classifications.I myself is a petite and have a borderline rectangle to hourglass body but have big boobs and medium butt and its always a struggle for me to look good in a clothes, your channel is really helpful to someone like me who have the uncommon body type to dress the best for my body shape. Thank you ,love your channel.

I agree with most of your tips except for one. I just had a professional style analysis, and even though I am 5'0" and have an hourglass/curvy figure, I have a very long torso for my height (long-waisted). So in my case, I can wear wide belts! I learned that your vertical proportions (upper body, torso, and leg length) are just as important as your horizontal (bust/waist/hips) measurements in determining which styles to wear.

I think I definitely have a longer torso, but than I have a short waist (I do have a defined waist, but then the smallest point of my waist is situated a bit above than normal, that means I have a short waist) so does this apply to me too? I want to make my legs look taller.

I absolutely agree with pushing up long sleeves. I'm not sure that I agree with why it works, but it works! I've been doing that for 50 years and people always think I'm taller than I am. I credit the sleeve trick as one of the reasons why.

Thank you! Have been a subscriber for a while. This is very helpful as I’m trying to build a social and work wardrobe on an apple shape. Been hiding under too big tops and long cardigans. Have come to accept the need for tailoring, though, because the larger the size, the manufacturers increase arm holes and leg widths way out of proportion and straight legs become wide frumpy legs on my heavy 5’1” frame. My hiney doesn’t fit well in petites, so I’m forced to tailor.

So right about the puffy sleeves. I tried on this lovely lightweight white shirt with long-ish poet like sleeves. I was so tempted because I feel it is trending for this summer and I like some arm coverage; but there was no way to half tuck that shirt and slim it out - my upper body looked enormous with those Renaissance sleeves! Also true about the wide belts - they go right to my bustline - but I love the look of them so much!

Chi, I love you for making this video indeed. I am 165 and on the curvy end and this has confirmed some of the things I practice and have humorously highlighted some things that I need to change hehehehe. I am very grateful you have a kind eye to consider all different women's shapes and what suits them best. I love A line for skirts and dresses, monocromatic is my jam, straight leg are my faves as they highlight my toned thighs and give freedom to the rest of the leg, so it looks fantastic. Hahahaha I do have the butterfly kind of jersey/top... that made me laugh because it is true that it does not look good on me as compared to V neck tops... these are the best! Thank you so very much for making this video. Sending lots of love!
