Barbarossa's apple made for a great shot, and Norrington's death was handled well, too. The man with no fear, who was too noble to compromise (and definitely too good for Elizabeth)

"clever girl" will remain one of the best last words ever. dude called it from the beginning. highly recommend the book by Crichton if you haven't read it.

Jed carrying a dying Matty in his arms and sitting down on a park bench in the snow while they both bleed to death knowing they stopped the insurgents and freed the people of their town in the original (and the only one worth watching) Red Dawn. The moment that the enemy soldier sees them, realizes they’re dying and just walks away is superb.

I have watched that movie more times than I could possibly count since I was a kid. One of my all time favorites. Just let it turn to something else, Matty.

The one I thought of first was Tia Carrere in the limo in True Lies when she is knocked unconscious and wakes up only to find herself alone and the limo is headed towards a giant gap on a bridge and she just goes “oh shit” before going over. That was a great movie.

The Jurassic Park line, "Clever girl!" is one of my all time favorites. Muldoon is essentially a good guy, he just underestimated his opponent. But with his words came a measure of respect. It is that respect that makes this line memorable for me.

All the more remarkable is that he's a professional.hunter supposedly an assassin of animals, and yet, because of his trade he doesn't have the contempt or blase disregard for the dinosaurs the rest of the park's staff seemingly have. He respects their skills and their abilities and thus he fears the consequences. His death is one that is entirely in keeping with the natural order, and he sees it that way.

The greatest of all time? Spock in _Wrath Of Khan._ After saving the ship, he gets up - now blind & minutes from death - straightens his uniform & says goodbye to his friend.

Oddly, I was just thinking of the one after that; Search For Spock. Remember about Christopher's (Kruge's) Klingon consort. She passes him the fruits of her espionage mission; intel on the Genesis device. Then she speaks a short phrase, "you will find it useful," knowing it's a death warrant for herself and her whole charter ship. She's seen secrets not meant for her and confessed to it, so she's due an honorable slaying. Granted she's a throwaway character against the celebrated, decades-old IDIC icon you mention, though.

Good call. That scene was made better when they were talking about using the scotch to run the generator and stay alive a little longer....but couldn't bear to waste good scotch. If your dead anyway, you might as well enjoy some good scotch.

Avengers: Endgame was also a two-fer. After Tony snapped, Thanos sees his forces turn to dust, and just sits down and accepts his fate.

J.R.R Tolkien knows how to handle characters so well. Just minutes before that Boromir was corrupted by the ring and almost betrayed Frodo. But then he shook it off and he got up and ran after Merry and Pippin to save them. Even once he knew he was going to die, he killed as many of them as he could to slow them down so that the party could catch up to save his friends Merry and Pippin. Which they eventually did. So it shows you no matter how strong the ring's corruption was, Boromir truly was a good guy at his core just trying to do the right thing.

I feel like at least one of Sean Bean's screen deaths would make one of these lists. Although maybe the ways he died were too heroic for this list. Boromir's death was agonizing. I felt those trees lodging in my chest one after another. Hudson in Aliens is also one of my favorites.

Immediately thought of Smith in Event Horizon. The guy spends hours fixing the ship so they can escape then Weir plants a bomb on it. Refuses to let all his work go to waste so he searches the ship frantically for the bomb. He finds it right as the final seconds tick away to the explosion and just hangs his head, knowing it's the end. I'll never forget that scene.

One classic scene that stands out for me is in the original "The Mechanic" with Charles Bronson and Jan Micheal Vincent. the end scene where he is reading the letter in his car telling him "if you are reading this it means I'm already dead ... and so are you... BOOM! classic.

Kudos on the number one spot. I would have included Roy Batty's death from Bladerunner. He knows he has only moments left to live, plays a deadly game of cat and mouse with Deckard, and then opts to save the man who has murdered/retired everyone he cares about. His "I'm about to die," speech is iconic. Darth Vader, similar.

In my book, there are two ultimate shootouts: the end of the Wild Bunch (battle of Bloody Porch, it's called) and the hospital shootout in Hard Boiled. Can't top those.

Especially since the Zorg death was the same director ripping off the same death with the same actor. The Leon/ Professional death was the original and better.

@@campbelljamesc It was the same production company. They made Leon whilst waiting to get the Fifth Element back on track. And Leon is spectacular, best "time fill" for a crew ever.

Yeah but Vincent really didn't know for sure he was dead. He knew he screwed up and Butch got the drop on him but he still didn't know for sure that Butch would kill him. Hell Butch didn't even know. The toaster popped and Butch just reacted. Still, that was a pretty kewl death.

The Cabin in the Woods: Dana and Marty sharing a joint and their comments on the world ending, as the evil giant gods awoke, was beautiful.

I thought that Tony Stark’s best moment there wasn’t the “I’m Iron Man” but a few seconds earlier, when he comes up with that idea, and simultaneously remembers that Dr Strange had said that there was just one way, out of millions of possible futures, that they could win - and then he and Strange just look at each other. They’re the two smartest people on that battlefield, and there’s a whole silent conversation in that one moment.

Captain Smith standing on the bridge of the Titanic, waiting for the water to come bursting in as the ship sinks.

Leon when Leon dies and that bent cop opens his vest to find grenades with the pin pulled

Se7en - John Doe's smile knowing Mills (becoming "Wrath" to Doe's "Envy") would complete his masterpiece.

Darth Vader, Return of the Jedi he's human for few minutes and the little piano piece of the Imperial March makes it even more emotional.

This reminds me of Carter Burke from the movie "Aliens". During the final attack he locks the others with the bugs. Turns towards the exit when the door opens by itself revealing a very annoyed Alien. That "I am so dead .." whimper from him was sooooo satisfying. :)

@@Fizwalker I love the tribute to Slim in the Armageddon movie when Hound Dog is sitting atop "the nuclear weapon", bronco riding on the Moon. James Earl Jones played the navigator (or co-pilot) in Dr. Strangelove. Jack D. Ripper is the greatest military name in history.

An “even more” video is needed for this one. Start with Beatty and Dunaway’s knowing and loving glance before the shootout in Bonnie and Clyde

Kinda wish we could hear the characters speaking the moments instead of being told what they're saying. Maybe it's a copyright issue, but it's a bit of a bummer.

My favorite part about Mac sharing a drink with Childs is how it parallels the beginning of the film. Once he lost the chess match, he “gave the computer a drink” and called it a cheating bitch. Here he gives Childs a drink and laughs because he thinks he’s lost.

The one moment I'd put on the list is from GoodFellas where Tommy is being taken to a house thinking the Mafia was going to make him. However, when he gets to the basement, he doesn't see anyone there and he utters "Oh no!" and BAM! He gets shot right in the back of his head. It was brutal to watch.

I always figured either he didn't know or didn't care that they would try and kill him for killing a made man earlier in the movie.

The “Oh” from Green Goblin is just so iconic

Iron Mans “I’m dead” moment was revealed when Doctor Strange looks at him and raises his finger. He did tell them he only saw one outcome where they win. Strange was letting him know, as he did in Infinity War, it was the only way.

Honorable mention: the incinerator scene from Toy Story 3. Though they didn’t actually die, they did embrace their perceived end together as a family.

That was such an incredible moment, and it was done so well, that for the briefest time, i legit wasn't sure that pixar wouldn't go through with it. its probably the first time in any disney film, hell, any family film period, i actually thought the heroes wouldn't make it. I mean, i know if they had done it, they would still have managed to have a more hopeful, tho sad, ending with molly, but still. the crew talked about in the commentaries for the first two films about the importance of having that moment of defeat during the climax (like the match going out in TS1), and this was the epitome of that idea.

I thought it was a stupid ending and a pointless death.

On the movie Pompeii, Atticus knew he was about to die when he saw that pyroclastic surge coming towards him. "For those of us who are about to die we salute" "I die a free man."

Coffey in The Abyss: No words just the crack of the glass over and over waiting for the inevitable implode. Dr Talbot in Doomsday: the range of panic to rage as he realizes his fate. Clifford in True Romance: One last lasting insult that can never be forgotten before the bullet.

Coffey actually screams seconds before the glass implodes.

You also have the ending of Glory when Morgan Freeman leads his soldiers inside the fort only to see a cannon aimed at them. The look on their faces tells what was about to happen.

@ The music that's playing at the end of the movie as the credits start rolling is maybe the most beautiful and powerful of a score as I've ever heard in my life. It always gives me goosebumps as well.

Gorman in Aliens, does have his moments. Particular when he’s trying to block off the Aliens approach to the others. He doesn’t really panic, he just accepts his fate.

The old couple in "Titanic" that just look at each other and hold hands when the water is coming. The British officer from "Bridge Over the River Kwai"; "What have I done?" then stumbles like a zombie to the plunger. The oil guy from "Waterworld"; "Oh, thank God" as the flare is falling. The Klingon from Star Trek, with torpedoes inbound; "To be, or not to be". Hans Gruber, "Die Hard"; which was Alan Rickman's real reaction to being dropped a split second early. "Aliens"; Vazquez and Gorman clutch hands on the grenade. "You always were an asshole, Gorman". "Point Break"; Keanu says "He's not coming back" as Swayze paddles off to meet the ultimate wave. And for Marvel, they could have done a 3-fer, Stark, Thanos, and Spidey.

Another few water related ones are the Bus Driver in 'The Day After Tomorrow' when the wall of water inundates New York, and Tea Leoni's character, Jenny, and her father on the beach in 'Deep Impact' as the massive wave approaches, and TWO in 'San Andreas' ... the old couple on the San Francisco wharf when the tsunami approaches, and Daniel on the Golden Gate bridge a few seconds before he gets squished by the shipping container ... then gets washed away when the bridge collapses.

Original Red Dawn, The "Avenge me!" scene. Instead of telling his kids he loved them (they new) he wanted to give them a mission to live on, knowing he was a dead man.
