9-BALL: RAFAEL MARTINEZ VS EARL STRICKLAND - 2009 US OPEN 9-BALL CHAMPIONSHIP
Спорт
9-BALL - RAFAEL MARTINEZ took on EARL ‘THE PEARL’ STRICKLAND late in 2009 US Open 9-Ball Championship in Chesapeake, Va. Martinez might not have been the household name that Strickland was back then, but both of these players knew the battle they were going to be in to win this one.
Danny Diliberto and Jay Helfert provided the commentary

Great match , I knew Rafael from earlier matches on accu stats. Love watching the players of the past as I find them very entertaining, truly the greatest players of their time & maybe then some! Thanks for this!

What a great match! Rafael is such a great player! By far one of the toughest opponents i seen Earl face!
Earl and Rafael are such amazing power players! And Rafael is also a class act and a great sportsman!

This is the first time I've seen Rafael play. Man he's not afraid to let that cue ball travel, and he has a really good stroke.
Rafael ... you've played a great match ... down to the wire 👊🇲🇽👍🎱
14:22 Rafael's reverse 4(5) rail shot. This comes up every now and then and players are careful and take their time but he shot it like it was routine. lol

Ride on !! Earl's playing style, up-tempo and shot making are 2nd to none. 2 things are super cool. First, Strickland himself called Reyes the best ever...wow, strong stuff. Secondly, Earl still uses good old Blue Masters chalk !!!
That was an exciting match. Thanks for making it available. This is the second match I've seen with Martinez; such a good player.

Always great and best player in the world, I love this guy 😁
Yo soy dominicano y me gusta como juegan nuestros hermanos mexicanos 🔥🔥🙌🍾
Earl's abs are oustanding after 500 crunches and a 5 mile run daily!!!
Incredible match& shooting
1:06:59 This is what annoys me about commentators, that 2 went in the side all day, and they spent 3 minutes talking about it like it's an issue.
Martinez played some tournaments in Germany once in de 90ies... he beat Bustamante in de Finals 13-2. It was a beating Bustamante surely will never forget.
Das ist Billard!🎖🏆🏅
Martinez is a class act. I can tell he is a money player with his stroke & fearless shot preference. I love his style. I have never liked Strickland & his demeanor of an 4 year old that mom didn’t buy him a toy at the grocery store. Blamed people in the crowd stubbing a 7 ball in the corner. Martinez gave away the match more than Strickland earned it. I came away very impressed with Martinez. Now i know why Efren dominates Strickland in 9 or 10 ball.
I love Rafael Martinez's demeanor at the table and he is a great player
This match couldn't have been any more entertaining. Feel bad for Martinez, because his errors cost him the game.
Thanks Pat, The mighty Earl, How bout Leonardo Andam? Can ya give us 1 of him? The fans deserve to see more than just Efren, Bustamante, and Luat, thanks so much, The Pearl!!!!

We pull an old match from the archives to premiere every Tuesday night.
Earl is my favorite player for his faster pace and shot-making. Martinez, though, had 'em. Maybe a little too flashy instead of meat-and-potatoes did him in. I didn't need the announcers to say they've played before with a little bad blood, I could see from the start with the pre-lag handshake. It's 1 on 1, these things happen. Go Earl !!
The MIGHTY EARL!! 🔥💪💪

Oh, yea. Dig those ripped abs after 500 crunches daily.
Why does earl have all that crap on his hands?
They kept calling Rafael's shot "the dipsy doodle."
@9:50 tough position for the 3 down table,… Martinez just switches to left hand and draws into perfect position.
Interesting that Martinez breaks with a closed bridge while shooting every other shot open.
Strickland should not be able to put on and take off those weights. Those give him more force behind his breaks the other player doesn't have
why don't we have more girls walking like this after the rack?

How about that?¿? Earl Strickland how about that??? G.O.A.T. Thats How...
Raphael is a much better player! 🎱
Earl has to be the weirdest player ever... He's wearing weights on his ankle and pulls them off his ankles and puts them on his arms.

@@AccuStats first, I must thank you for the reply. But no, several times in the video, the one finishing the game moves to the front of the table, turns towards the public and raises the questick in the air. That was Keyser Soze lurking in the background...or Michael Myers.
Earl is still a great player but I cant stand his mouth so ill root for anyone playing against him
Earl 's wait on right arm not leaguel.
These announcers...all the talk and laughter about Earl putting on/off weights. So what? Highly doubtful Strickland would try that in a big-time tournament without experimenting first in practice. Good for the mind = good for the game.
Rafael has a loose stroke. Fun to watch, but leads to alot of scratches.

Rafael miss cues because his tip is always worn down..seen it!
Everytime Rafael chalks, he uses one hand, then switches to the other. I've never seen a player do that before. I find it annoying and I don't know why.

When you do that, you engage both left and right brain.. you also get the weight of the cue out of the hand which can be a plus after many hours.

@@kiosunightstep6640 good question. Along with washing your hands very clean before each match to feel every idiosyncrasy with your grip. Knew Martinez very well and he was a master at everything. Only unfortunate thing is that I saw him miscue more than anyone due to him playing with a very thin tip.
1:13:44 The commentators should be fired. Rafael drilled the kick in. So much talk about nothing.
Rafael was definitely affected by Earl's bitchy behavior. Have seen someone did the same thing in a $1000 game and almost got beaten by the other player.
You need to put a muzzle on danny....he talks to much and don't know what he is talking about.....good lord!
