9/4 Cladding the tank room, visiting the pembertons, selling cattle & getting stuck! in the tractor.
One of the busiest days EVER starting off trans shopping cattle as David Holdsworths huge wagon can’t fit up the back of big Roy’s farm, so we did four loads of cattle in the yellow wagon and then onto the road and over to the big wagon, they went to Darlington auction and then we loaded up with cows to take to Carlisle H&H BORDERWAYYYYYY seeing the sweetest pet lambs go in to get sold was ace I didn’t realise they could do that I should go and get myself some more 🤣🤣😇😇😇 off to @TomPembertonFarmLife to visit on a top secret mission (I know you all love a top secret mission) looked at the most epic shed in the world I’m very taken with the feed poles barrier like….. what do you actually call them? Anyhow much fun had drank milkshake played with highlands etc etc. we put all the panels in up the side of the shed where the feed star system will be going, the merlo is excelling as always. Cladding gone in the tank room it is AMAZING more to follow on that he will have finished the ceiling soon then you will see the full effects.
in 2009 i had no experience of farming or the realities that came with it. That soon changed when I met my other half Roy, I had a job as a carer and in every spare moment threw myself into farming. I had only ever driven a Nissan Micra and had experience with horses, I learnt the hard way as nobody had the time to show me and soon after arriving I found myself mothering on calves to three quarter bred limmy cows. We spent every available moment on the farm between our day jobs. Fast forward to 2016 two children later we moved into our very own farm overlooking the northern Pennines, Laitha.
we are in a transitional period at present and will finally be milking cows and making the final switch later this year, after years of planning and implementing infrastructure we will be milking 120 Jersey cows on two Lely robots. This will be a huge change and a steep learning curve
I will be taking you all along for the ride so hit that subscribe button and see you every other day for farming vlogs.
I am overjoyed to be a farmer. I feel so fortunate every day to wake up and do what I love and even better share it with the world and hope it inspires more young people from Preston to spread their wings and think outside the box the world doesn’t need more childcare workers or hairdressers it needs more farmers.

Love your channel Charlotte, and you give a detailed picture of everything you are doing. Are you going to have enough silage on the farm.

Hi I thought I would pass on a tip about putting in the panels along the feed fence. I think you should seal under the panel between the concrete as the slurry seeps into the feed .l have seen it so often where this happens and they have to be lifted out and try to seal on dirty concrete.
@charlotteashleyfarm

We thought we’d have to seel underneath but then remembered the other sides are poured 100mm higher with concrete to make 600mm cows side abs 500mm feed side x

I think you have a new fan ! If I didn’t know better I’d say Hugo is smitten! Pity he doesn’t have a phone or he could sub and get great content on an almost daily basis! I can’t wait for the cows to arrive, that will put a stop to your gallop . I’ve had a couple of really tough days and the bit of light entertainment was just the tonic. Regards from Ireland.

Glad to see the Ginger Warrior up and about. Hope he's taking it easy(er). One question ... why did you put the concrete panel on the feeding rail on opposite sides of the column either side of the shed. On the previous video you put them INSIDE the columns. On this one, they are on the OUTSIDE. I would have thought that would be difficult to scrap-out on manure.
@charlotteashleyfarm
2 ай бұрын
Ahhhh good questionnnnnnnn so on the side you saw in todays video they are forming a trough for a conveyor belt system so they needed to be on the outside now I wasn’t keen on this as you say keeping them clean would be harder but needs must c x
we found soon as we gave up milking and changed to beef and suckler cows our usage and spend on antibiotics and penicilin reduced to almost nothing overnight even though the cows we use to milk are now our suckler cows.......we use to get a fair bit of mastitis and therefore then we use to struggle with cell counts......different people would tell us different things like oh it's your milking parlour thats the problem or oh you don't use enough straw or oh you need to get rid of all your high cell count cows and buy some better ones but then we thought bollocks to it and put them all rearing calves and we've honestly barely had one mastitis case in 7 years since we gave up milking. .....the last box of mastitis tubes we bought back 2017 was over £100 a box so i'd hate to think how much they cost now........sounds like your going to have to invest in a medicine book charlotte.......allthough you would probably put it all on computer now i suppose
@charlotteashleyfarm

I have a nice medicine book but it will all be through the new system we use on the computer and inputted on your phone, our cows were all dairy x animals always did us really well and actually had a lovely Friesian animal from a fella called Chris who was giving up and that animal had some of the best calves we have ever had x

Oh I was just mooching around stealing shed plans and KZread tips etc you know how it is 😂😂😂
Are the feed passage cement panels on the wrong side of the pillars in terms of ease and effectiveness of slurry scraping. It is going to be a right pain in the derriere scraping the area on the shed side of the pannels ?
@charlotteashleyfarm

What happens do you just find bits of tails everywhere?. Sorry if they silly questions, but I have never needed to know these thing till I started watching you, So your fault. lol take care. Witchy

I hope your keeping a cow or 2 for your own freezer because with the current trend of beef and lamb auction prices it will be dam sight cheaper

@@charlotteashleyfarm I guess with the good prices and having more pigs coming though along with lamb or mutton it's a no brainer to sell

Sort of like a donkey guardian but a highland guardian
what determined which auction your cattle were taken to; ie why did certain animals go to Darlington and others Carlise?
@charlotteashleyfarm
2 ай бұрын
Ahh good question so Darlington is a new addition to the auction trip people have been getting AMAZING prices there latterly and we thought we would try it and they haven’t let us down, they are close to finishing farms in Yorkshire near the breweries and crisp factories etc so the guys who would want to buy ours frequent there sort of big dairy bullocks and rangy stuff not too much shape, Barnard castle was more for posh showy young stock for people and other farmers to buy to breed off or to fatten on, Carlisle is the biggest cast cow auction in the uk I believe and all cows go there it’s very busy x x
