I get like that whenever guns are portrayed unrealistically in movie and shows. Some movies get a pass because they're trying to be ridiculous and over-the-top and aren't going for anything resembling realism. But some movies try to pretend to be realistic but then show completely unrealistic firearms operation and handling.

@@arandomsupra They'd have to be getting into the 10s of g's to get anything like that effect - I haven't read much into this, but I've been on roller coasters doing 4.5 g, and my eyes are still in the right place, so its more than that, at least - doing some maths on this, presuming it happened at 10 g's, which seems low (it would take 100g to replicate the force of a vacuum cleaner, which can't do so, but the forces due to pressure in your body might add to this): using some brief calculations on the centrifugal force, it would take ~1.6 revolutions per second to get that force, so the outside would have been travelling at about 10 m/s, or around 20mph, which would be pretty fast, and the bearings aren't built for that, so it would lose speed fast, and it would take a lot of power make it spin like that. He would have also had to hold 10x his weight onto a bench while unconscious, which seems like a pretty impressive feat - in reality he would have gone flying. Basically like trying to carry a 1t weight, while holding onto a sideways merry go round that's shaking like mad - all while being unsecured, and unconscious.

You are 100% correct about the blood behind the eyes - that's called a "retrobulbar hematoma." The swelling behind the eyeball squishes it against the bony confines of the orbit, and can cause vision loss if not decompressed. We decompress it by cutting the ligaments around the eye, allowing it to actually expand forward.

"the more unstable, the faster you want to transport" oh gosh, THANK YOU ! I think the people making our procedures here have watched way too much of those BS shows, because loosing precious time (often hours) to stabilize someone BEFORE bringing them to the hospital is a very common procedure. An example, my sister had a very bad allergic reaction, first responders came, called a doctor from the ER, gave her a shot of something...and WAITED for (I'm not joking) 5 hours until she was stable enough to get to the hospital. By that time, she was fine, so at the hospital she waited another two hours before someone told her "you're fine, you can go home". Sadly, sometimes it ends badly (like that old guy who had a stroke, and they waited hours for I don't know what until bringing him to the hospital. By that time it was too late for anyone to do anything anymore, and he died a few days later). The whole "we're waiting for the patient to be better to get them tot he hospital to be treated" always blew my mind ! It's...utterly stupid.

I mean, negative G's can be a little more problematic that positive G's. They kind of cause blood to rush to the head and increase pressure and things start to pop. I don't think he hit enough G's for that though Edit: I did some research. It is actually quite plausible that he could have had severe injuries from something like this. Based on the article below there were severe issues with negative G forces at as low as 3-4 negative Gs, including swelling of the eyes. Using the formula for centripetal acceleration (a = v^2/r, given and described in the article) and assuming that the radius of the merry-go-round was 3.28ft (1m) it would only take 17mph (7.67 m/s) to cause some sort of headache and severe injury if it was not prolonged. Assuming a radius to be 4.9ft (1.5m) and a required 6 negative Gs for severe damage, it would only take about 21mph (9.39 m/s) for severe damage to occur. With a bike like that rigged to the merry-go-round, it could be expected to reach upwards of 30mph (~13.5 m/s) at the edge of the merry-go-round. Assuming that he could also not keep his head in very well and that it extended to a 6.56ft (2m) radius while keeping the 4.9ft (1.5m) radius of the merry-go-round, some further calculations could be done. The merry-go-round would make about 1.43 rotations every second which would put his head moving at about 40mph (18m/s) and would cause approximately 16.5 negative Gs to act upon him. That does not at all mean that he would still be holding on at that point, but it is entirely plausible that if he could hold on that he could reach a level that had dangerous levels of pressure in the brain. Now assuming that he was able to hold on for that amount of force, the pressure of the blood in his brain can also be approximated. The density of human blood is approximately 994 kg/m^3 and the gravitational acceleration at that amount of force is 162 m/s^2. While making the assumption that only about 1m of height (about half the body height) of blood was pushing on the brain, the equation for pressure at a depth can be used to approximate the pressure in his brain. That equation is P = rho * a * h, where P is the pressure, rho is the fluid density, a is the acceleration experienced, and h is the height of the fluid. Obviously this assumes that there is constant acceleration across the body (which is not true) but there would be higher accelerations inwards than outwards, so the head acceleration will work fine. Based on this equation, the pressure inside his brain would reach approximately 161 kPa or 1207 mmHg. To say that he would have a few issues is an understatement. Summary: bike can spin merry-go-round fast man will experience 16.5 negative Gs at the head blood pressure in head will be about 1207 mmHg only if he can hold on www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3884183/

Seriously, your not impressing anybody with your calculations, and the video isn’t about what injuries you might sustain from such events rather it is about how unrealistic the medical treatments are, plus the fact that they were performed by a paramedic without any medical direction, rather than by an eye surgeon.

It is true that this video is about how unrealistic the "hotline" shows are and how the treatments make no sense, however, the comments can be about whatever, and I for one was impressed by the calculations and found it interesting to learn a new way to destroy the biochemical machine that my body is. The most realistic medical scene I’ve seen was in the original Robocop. They didn’t shock asystole, vitals were appropriate for someone with multiple GSWs, and they use mast pants which were commonly used at that time. And Detroit looked pretty much like it does now:)

The most realistic I've seen is (very minor Better Call Saul spoilers) . . . . . . Is when Nacho is shot in the abdomen. That level of unconsciousness, his pallor and cracked lips, the concern the doc had over sepsis -- all absolutely correct. I've been in the ICU with septic shock (yeah, the real deal), and that's what I looked like after the docs somehow pulled me through.

I played on the merrigoround for 3 hours at the park one time as a child. I didn't get G-lock. I did, however, suffer from such severe and debilitating vertigo and nausea that I begged my mom to take me to the hospital. She refused. Told me I would live. Didn't flinch when I refused dinner and went to bed early. I still had mild vertigo the next day and I have never been anywhere near a merrigoround since.

Just a rough calculation...you’d need to spin a merry go round (radius of 1 meter) at over 100rpm to achieve a radial acceleration of 5g...which is still in the threshold of tolerable for people. Never mind that any person would need to be physically strapped to the merry go round to stay on the thing while it’s rotating twice per second...how the hell do you get it up to that speed??
