Thank you all for joining me, this video shows painting a porch that was drastically altered. The columns have been replaced, ceiling vaulted and paneled. The rails where made an a new set of stairs built. For paint, I'm using a Valspar solid stain, plain white for the rails and columns and a shade of blue for the ceiling per viewer request. Most questions that are asked are answered in the talking portions of the video.

I would change the blue wall to white and paint the hand rails on the small porch white. Also it would probably look better if you painted the wood on the side of the house to match the rest of the lower wall.

Definitely paint the smaller staircase/porch to match. It looks unfinished as it stands now, and it would add a lot of symmetry.

Looks nice. I would paint the handrails and stair rails on the side entrance white as well.
My vote is take the white up higher to accentuate the angle in the roof. Do the second little porch just like first porch. That'll look swell! Happy Spring.
LOVE to watch you work. Old lady.. once willing and capable.... reliving those days through you! I’m surprised people are so clueless and then ask you why it takes you so long. I also like that you just put it out as it is... it reflects reality. I’m amazed by you and wish our country was filled with young people like you! Thoughts on the paint? White up the wall under the porch. Paint the second porch to match the other porch. That’s my taste.

@@TheAstroflight if longevity is that important, he's better off going with vinyl siding. You can get 20 to 40 years with it. And easy enough to repair after any high winds, which won't be very common, provided proper installation.
Paint the side porch railings white as well. Also paint that section of wall on the porch white. I think it will show off your vaulted porch ceiling. Great job so far!!
Definitely a yes on painting both the upper part of the wall and the second porch railing white. Looking good so far!
Haint blue on the porch lid is a Southern tradition and should stay. 🙂
Looks great! yep, I'm with you on bringing the white down on that front wall. Same for the small porch rails. The white looks clean and classy.
Blue for the porch is a good idea. Apparently it prevents wasps and hornets from building their nests up in the corners, as they get disorientated, thinking the blue is the sky. Great choice!

Glad to see you're back. I feel both porches should match unless you paint the other porch dark. I guess it depends on curb appeal.
When you said 3 years I was shocked, I remember watching the videos of you working on the cinderblock house like it was yesterday. Crazy how time flies. Anyway keep up the good work and thank you for the entertainment and life advice you provide. I truly appreciate it.
Boy oh boy what a little paint can do , such an improvement . The other porch, my suggestion is paint it also . Keep an even flow for the eye to follow. It sure is coming along nicely. 👍👍
I think the wall part should be painted white. Should make the ceiling look higher at the back side. Thanks for the content!
I agree, the back wall of the porch ceiling would look more open if it were white.
Love the blue ceiling ! Yes...take the white up that one wall. AND paint the other porch white. I don’t think the smaller porch would look right with a roof on it...it looks great like it is !!! Excellent work as always ! 👍🎵🎵👍
The fact that you were doing all of that in crocs cracks me up....lol
I like the blue. "Haint blue" is often seen on porch ceilings. It looks nice how you have it painted now.
All the old houses had sky blue ceilings. I asked an old timer as to why and she said because spiders will think it's the sky and not build a web. I did it on the house I used to live in and it worked.

It's called "haint" blue. 😊
Love the blue! Take the white paint up the wall to visually raise the roof.
I'm a carpenter and we mostly use white in the back of a sideboard for example to make it seem bigger and I feel like this would apply to that blue wall part. White would just make it seem a bit bigger and I think it would just look better :) Love your videos man ^^
you’re amazing. as per your request for suggestions: Paint the second porch white. Otherwise it looks mismatched and weird. repaint the lower portion of the blue back to white.

Loved the classical music and the random nature shots. So relaxing.
Looks great! I think the house wall white would be good. Then the blue ceiling is like a cool hidden secret :)
14:54 PLEASE PLEASE give us a tour of your garden! Film one of your sponsor ads in the garden and we'll be sure to watch it.
the vertical part above the door and window definitely needs to be white to accentuate the vaulted ceiling visually.
Love your channel. Also the virtue of taking a decrepit hulk and revitalizing it and creating order and beauty. Not everyone has the vision, discipline or the skill set. Noticed that both porches have handrails corresponding heights. Nice detail, brings them together so paint both porches to match. Visually pleasing. Blue ceiling is good. If you paint that small piece of wall white it will show the vaulted ceiling off. You worked hard to accomplish that detail. Clever man!
Has any of the Neighbors asked you to give their house a Face Lift as well ??
I agree with you that the blue wall visually erases the vaulted ceiling. I would go with a white wall!

Don't think I started it, but pretty sure I told him haint blue. It confuses the bugs and there was a superstitious tradition about keeping out evil spirits. A mezuzah and holy water might help too 😉.
I typically watch your videos before I go to work while I eat my breakfast. this time something about the music while the birds were still in the background was exceptionally lovely! It's like I wasn't watching someone fix up a house.
The blue is amazing, probably my favorite feature now. It also works for a rental since it's not an uncommon historic ceiling color
Paint the wall white, and do the stairs on the left the same as the other. It will balance the look of the front.
You were spot on -- the blue lowers the ceiling again. Paint the section over the front door white. But the pop of blue is lovely! ♥
I love the birdsong in the bacground.
I would definitely be playing some soft music, candles lit, flower peddles all around while wearing nothing but a silk robe when the inspector arrives 😂😝 Great video! The paint looks great. Love the blue!
Great explanation about why 2 porches! Now it makes sense why you choose this direction!
Being a true southern girl (southern Alabama), I love the blue porch ceiling! Leave the wall blue. Looks great. I like that the porches are separated. One is a utility entrance and the other the main entrance to the house. This way it’s obvious which is which.

Haint blue to ward off evil spirits! More likely insects 😄
As I watched you painting the ceiling blue and then you started painting the wall blue, I was silently yelling at you that it needed to be white (ie the same as the rest of the house) JBHO I also think the small porch should be painted white as well.
I recommend keeping the ceiling blue. As you walked up to the porch with your camera it was very striking and looked really good. Will look even better once the windows are in. The whole place is coming along nicely and looking fantastic by the way.
I thoroughly enjoy your videos and the longer it takes the less we’d probably have. There’s others on here that just talk talk talk and then sponsor sponsor sponsor blah blah blah and they barely show the house. Yours is so effortless and passionate and modest. it’s just refreshing. Thank you.
Ah, the white paint makes it all look so nice! I'd paint the upper wall white. I'd also paint everything white on the side porch steps. Looking good!
Looks great. Blue keeps away the wasps, says this Southern Girl. I would paint the wall panels, but leave the pine strips blue. Would show the height of the ceiling, and tie both sections together.

Excellent idea! Like a Craftsman home.
I like the idea of the wall being white up to the ceiling. It’s looking good, though!
No need to explain yourself at all. We are now seven years into renovating our home. We stripped it down to the bare studs and with jobs, pandemics, holidays, vacations, yard work, and now a second house, we are finally getting down to the finishing touches. It all takes time and money. By the way, my vote is for white up to the peak. Nice job.
Music perfect, sped up looks like a maestro leading an orchestra...smart !!
I can't wait to see what it will look like with the windows in!
Very glad you did blue! It tricks spiders into not building webs cuz they think it’s the sky
Looks great as usual. I would paint the hand rails and steps on the side porch like you did on the main porch so it will match. Love your videos!
I think you should paint that area above the front door white instead of the blue. I agree it would make that area seem taller, and also nicely bounce around whatever lighting that you decide to add to the porch. The porches look fantastic.
Just cut a hole in the railing on each side and lay a 2x8 in between them so you can 'walk the plank' between porches. Simple. Everyone will love it.
Looks great. You should do a walk through of the inside from time to time.
Man I know you got this in fast motion but you are so organized.
PS Like it that you so often use classical music in your vids! More people should do it it makes you stand out more!
My main concern and hope for you is that after the time you have put into it finishing to a standard way beyond what you could have done, you get the rewards you deserve, whether that is a high rental return or a high resale. Good luck!
I like what you did with the stairs. Painting the uppers white. Classy.
You are a busy young man, I can see that. You're doing great work. Be happy with yourself.
This house is looking so good! Great job! All that hardwork is showing through ♥
Glad to see the porch ceiling painted blue ... old southern tradition to keep evil away
When you were talking about it, I was really negative about painting the upper part of the porch wall blue, but now that I've seen it, I really kind of like it.
I love the work your doing. Wow I didn't even realize I've been watching you for 3 years. The blue looks amazing.
Love the two enterance ways. There was a house on my street growing up that had the formal center hall front door & the other led you right into a mud room with closet & doors to the garage & kitchen. Perfect for kids.
I enjoyed very much the cut to the bird song and nature pictures. It gave an idea of what those living in the house will enjoy.
I think a lot of people don't understand house flipping. Some projects are not worth over spending on bigger renovations. They see all these TV shows that drop hundreds of thousands of dollars and think every house flip should be like that lol. You're doing great and I understand why you're making the decisions you're making.
The blue ceiling pops in contrast to the white. Looks good as is. 👍

hearing those birds and the wind makes me miss a spring day, and we're barely out of summer.
You're an inspiration. Keep up the good work!
Yay! My favourite series 😍
As a man who works on almost any project by himself as you are on this, I appreciate your hard work and the thoughtfulness of the decisions you make along the way. Ps. Wall white.
Keep it blue ! ! ! Add a solid white ceiling fan, and watch how that porch will turn out just beautiful ! ! !
I am impressed! How did you manage NOT to get any paint on your shirt? Much respect, Sir. Also the house looks amazing.
1. Do the side porch to match the front porch. 2. Leave the blue. 3. You took my fave home restoration channel and through in some yard work. I love my yard work videos!
You could leave the pine strips blue that are on the house and then paint the inside squares white so that it feels like a transition and then you'll still get the height effect.
I adore this. I'm so glad you painted the ceiling blue 💙I feel like you really stepped out of your comfort zone. The shade is perfect. I would leave that section blue. Also I would paint the rails and spindles on the small porch white and do the same treatment on the stairs. Really tie the two porches together by making them the same. Good job !
Looks great. I would go white up to the porch ceiling. After your treated lumber has dried on the second porch, I would paint it as well. BTW, I haven’t seen an old school lawn boy mower like that in a long time. Lol. I also own 3 rental properties.
White wall. Make the side porch match. Also, for me, this is just as, if not more, exciting then the beginning stages. I don't feel like it's dragging and I'm still very into this house fix-up. So keep 'em coming.
Over the years, I rebuilt/restored three cottages. I was working and taking care of my own home, too. It takes time. I learned so much from each one of them- I started not really knowing what I was doing, and ended up being fairly skillful at it. My advice is don't be afraid to start a renovation job.
Yay my favourite series 😍

I agree about the wall being white
Writing here from the U.K., where my partner and I really enjoy watching your videos. Thank you so much for all your efforts. We completely concur everything you said at the end, where you have a life to lead; family, food shopping, doing your day job. You do you and thank you, again.
I will reserve my descion on painting the rest of the wall white until the window is in. Painting the rest of the wall may make the porch feel more open leaving it blue gives it a more intimate and cozy feel, adding the window will make it obvious which is the right choice. Love the "HAINT" blue.
Bottom line, this is his house. He is very meticulous in how he renovates his properties. Don’t suggest things that could waste time and money for him. If you like it, put it in your house. Thank you, young man, for all that you do to put videos out for us. I look forward to them and love the work that you do. I appreciate it. Now go back to your plan for the house.
Looks great that secondary porch I probably would have wrapped the second steps around the house. Either way, looks amazing. Edit: I completely agree, buying a house in some aspects is actually easier then buying a car.

I would personally paint the smaller set of steps to match the larger porch. If the smaller steps are left with the natural wood colour, they will look more like an inorganic addition to the house, whereas they would look more like they belong when matching.

Just the kickboards and handrails, of course. The top surfaces are just for stepping on so I'd leave those the natural wood surface like you did the main porch.
I think it made sense to paint it blue but after you explained how if you painted it white it will help it feel vaulted, I like that idea better! I think the stairs stained a dark walnut would look great also! Does your paint have a primer in it or how do you not get tannin bleed through?
