Well...I'm not sure what will happen next but it has been a heck of a year in so many ways, both good and bad. This marks the final video of the year for me, on this channel at least. I may post a few on the other channels, "The Homestead Craftsman" and "Common Cents".
In this video I dress up the porch ceiling and wire in for a fan. In keeping with the rest of what I do, I try to keep in simple materials wise using luan and 1x2 strips. Once Painted and caulked it will have a clean classic look.
Thank you all for the time you spend watching my videos. Looking forward to hearing from you in the comments and emails. Thanks again.

@@MastiffMike1 you are probably right Mike, the problem of delamination in that climate could lead to complications. Maybe the solution would require more work that breaking up, carting away and casting a new slab in the end. Here goes though. Edge up the slab - I’d tile it with outdoor quarry tiles. Then blast the concrete and fill the gap in with hydraulic cement. After that use outdoor sealant, roller it over the concrete, then pour the self-levelling compound and then paint it with a grippy garage door floor paint. As I say it’s a lot of work so maybe decking it would be a better and look nicer. The freeze-thaw cycle could screw my idea up big time. The alternative to self-levelling compound and paint could be to quarry tile the entire slab. That would look lovely!

I have called this year "Covid winning," and have labeled my projects "Covid winning #1", "Covid winning #2" etc. I have built a couple of greenhouses in the back yard and grown a 12 month garden, I have fixed my chicken house, built a miter saw station, canned food, built furniture, fixed machines, and just blown through ten years of "to do list." I'm working through calculus with my home schooled high schooler. Others can sit on their butts and fear, I'm going to trust Jesus and keep going. It has been a great year. On a side note, it used to be traditional to paint porch ceilings sky blue. It supposedly kept flies off the porch.

Actually they painted the porch ceilings haint blue. It was used to confuse ghosts from getting in your house. As they would think the blue ceiling on the porch was sky. That's what I read. Dont know if it's true as I have a wrap around porch. But painted it white. And I do have "apparition americans" that visit us. But I think it is the lady that built our house. So I dont want to scare her away. She likes to come and see what is new that we have done on her 1916 farmhouse out in the country. And as we have lived here for 28 years now. She hasnt scared me yet. By the way, the family that built our house are buried a mile down the road in the pioneer cemetery.

Ask them if you can trade some grunt work in exchange for help on the skill side. You will learn and they will be glad to get an extra hand. As a bonus you may gain a friend and that is priceless.

My mother, a 64 year old with no serious health problems, has a cascade of symptoms and has had them for 10 straight days without relenting, my sister had mostly respiratory symptoms, my brother had mostly gastrointestinal symptoms, my five year old niece developed a rash over her whole body with no other symptoms. I could of used this pep talk about forty years ago when I was about somewhere near your age... 73 now. I am crippled is why I don't do what you do. I was near fifty when I built my first home/house. I would still own it had I used my head but greed got me the easy money and then hurt, couldn't make the payments... I had owned it outright for a while and thats a good feeling. Most people get surprised when they squeeze the trigger on a skill saw or other tools and find out its not going to kill them. Wonderful to hear someone in their early 30’s be proud of their work with the words “I am pleased”. Bespoke may just come in handy as a last minute nifty gifty idea, thank you! Wishing a block buster of a guy and his family a very blessed holiday and New Year!

A traditional color for porch ceilings is sky or robins egg blue, to discourage bugs and birds (so they say). Thanks for this and your other videos!

I spray painted the corrugated metal basement window well supports light blue so that when you looked out of those tiny windows you saw blue sky. It's psychological. 😎

Congratulations on another sponsorship. Nicely done. A big thank you to Bespoke Post. Merry Christmas to you and your family. I love your description of those ancient things, that open with papers inside. They have words & pictures, & can be quite instructional. My favorite part about those (I think they were called books.) They don’t have to be charged, or require any electricity. I appreciate your life wisdom & philosophy.
