Oh boy, the hypocrisy of Ottolock claiming that LPL was cheating! I went over to their channel and saw a video of them trying to cut thru a lock band with bolt cutters; the guy using them had one hand wrapped around both handles instead of gripping each handle separately, and he has his hand slid halfway down the handle! He also kept twisting the bolt cutters around and back and forth like he was trying to just pull tit the lock apart or something? It was painfully embarrassing to watch, especially with the show the guy put on shaking his hands and grunting lol; I think if you handed those same bolt cutters to a literal chimpanzee it would probably handle them more competently than the Ottolock guy did. smfh...

I absolutely love this video. And the one of the "guys in random tool room." That is the cleanest set of tools I've ever seen. In my field we use heavy duty zip ties that take two hands to cut with tin snips. The bag comes with 100 ties and cost 80 dollars. That would get you at least 100 locks. I'd say that would be 89 more than the ottolock before your bike got stolen.

We got into this discussion on a bike ride. So I told my one buddy that if I couldn't cut through his new Ottolock on the first try and in 5 seconds, I'd buy him a replacement. So I did it with a 20 year old pair of those same Wiss yellow handle straight cut tin snips (which have been well used over that period of time). First try and pretty much just like you did in time. Then I took out my old Right hand and Left hand cut Wiss tin snips (the red and green handle ones) and they even cut through it easier. When we tested it, he locked it up to one of the poles on my fence (just like you would if you were somewhere). In 5 seconds, I was walking away with the bike. 10 seconds, riding it.

There's a lot of BS on Kickstarter, indiegogo, gofundme. That can't be denied but there's a lot of stuff that got off the ground because of these sites. Board Games, Video games, books and music albums generally are reliable, because those are funded by fans that have knowledge of the products. But a lot of the time people are suckered by grandiose promises that THEY desperately want to succeed rather than understanding how the product is supposed to succeed. Stuff like Fontus who had no chance of putting out a successful product if you have a basic idea about physics and thermodynamics. The Ottolock is pretty much the same. I've got no interest in picking locks but I use the stuff I learnt from LPL and bosnianbill to understand what to look for in a lock. I actually started watching about 3 months before the original Ottolock test. Looking at it I instantly knew LPL and BosnianBill were going to get through it within seconds because the locking mechanism was probably shimmable. While companies launching these campaigns are largely to blame backers not properly scrutinizing campaigns that allow this kind of stuff to happen are also responsible.

KZread told me to watch this and I discovered that ottolock now has their own new and shiny U-Lock called "Sidekick" since January 2020. Since Covid has been reinvigorating the bike market in Europe, maybe that applies for the US as well? Might a nice time to check if they finally made a useful lock. Thanks for the videos, always entertaining and educational to watch.

I still love when companies take offence to him basically showing a lock is useless with simple brute force methods and saying its just a lie or something, but then still make a product 'improvement' that barely changes anything.

LPL was being a cut up. The lock has a split personality. Once LPL came to grips with the situation the lock was done. A two handed grip and extra force was the winning combination.

Yknow good trustful companies will take on board videos such as this and make sure their product withstands torture tests and/or quick cuts like this. If the CEO is playing it off by essentially saying LPL is a liar, then you know it's a company not to be trusted if they're okay with their products being destroyed so quickly. Another good, well informative and interesting video. Love it.

@Josh derp I'm not saying that's the sole reason, in saying it's the respect they earn as a reasonably honest company that's ACTIVELY trying to solve their defects in their products instead of telling someone who's clearly experienced in such things that their products are perfect in every way. At least Master admit their mistakes and try to change it, in just saying that alone HELPS their rep
