{829} What Is Flyback Converter Topology

in this video {829} what is flyback converter topology in switch mode power supply smps, i explained what is isolated flyback converter and how it works. in Flyback Converter topology (FBT), it is a transformer isolated converter based on the basic concept of buck boost topology. In a flyback converter, a semiconductor switch is connected in series with the transformer primary winding. The transformer is used to store the energy during the ON period of the switch, and also provides isolation between primary and secondary side. in normal operation, when the switch is ON for a period of TON, current flows in primary winding and creates magnetic field, but due to reverse direction of secondary winding, the output diode becomes reverse-biased and the transformer behaves as an inductor. The value of this inductor is equal to the transformer primary magnetizing inductance LM, and the stored magnetizing energy from the input voltage source VIN. Therefore, the current in the primary transformer (magnetizing current IM) rises linearly from its initial value to peak primary current. As the output diode becomes reverse-biased, the load current is supplied from the output capacitor. The output capacitor value should be large enough to supply the load current for the time period TON, with the maximum specified drop in the output voltage. At the end of the TON period, when the switch is turned OFF, the transformer magnetizing current continues to flow in the same direction. The magnetizing current induces negative voltage in the dot end of the transformer winding with respect to non-dot end. The diode D1 becomes forward-biased and clamps the transformer secondary voltage equal to the output voltage. The energy stored in the primary of the flyback transformer transfers to secondary through the flyback action. This stored energy provides energy to the load, and charges the output capacitor. Since the magnetizing current in the transformer cannot change instantaneously at the instant the switch is turned OFF, the primary current transfers to the secondary, and the amplitude of the secondary current will be the product of the primary current and the transformer turns ratio,

What are the circumstances where an AC supply is rectified to DC and a flyback is used to change it back to AC, as in your example? What are the advantages of doing so? Please and thank you.

Why FLY BACK? What flies? And what goes back? Surely a better name would be UseCollapsingField UCF SMPS.

haha awesome but it is named from someone else actually it transfers energy when the magnetic flux flies back during off period

You know how a swing flies back at you after you push it and it reverse it motion back to you?

The name comes from cathode ray tube television deflection output transformer.. Horizontal deflection work similarly; switch turns on in sync with video and current starts to rise in deflection magnetics; after linearish horizontal sweep energy is stored in deflection magnetics. Then switch opens and deflection circuit oscillates through flyback diode with flyback capacitor to get the crt electron beam 'FLY' back to zero very fast. The energy of collapsing magnetic field is transferred to eg. deflection output transformer high voltage coil among other coils..then the cycle starts over to draw the next line alla the time initiated by video sync circuit.. The name is inherited there!
