The Next Evolution of epic cinematic stories is here. Today's time machine brings us to WW2 at Guadalcanal, where the US Marines defend Henderson Field against the overwhelming Japanese who stormed from Alligator Creek to Edson's Ridge. This Solomon Islands campaign marked a turning point, that helped Americans liberate the Pacific and paved the way to the downfall of the Japanese army.
That said if you enjoy epic short film then don't forget to leave a LIKE! This was done in the Gates of Hell Ostfront game

3:39: the Japanese Battleships present for the Guadalcanal campaign were the Kirishima and the Hiei, both Kongo class battleships. The Yamato and Musashi were not present and were being used as fleet flagships at the time.

Also wasnt the waters around guadacanal too shallow for them to safley operate there?
@lmgbros7723
6 ай бұрын
@@ThatWelshGuy. the waters were deep enough for them to operate, but one needs to remember that the whole reason that the Yamato class was built was the IJN’s Decisive Battle Doctrine, which favored a massive fleet action with the US navy, like the Battle of Tsushima is 1905. Both sides were (initially) unwilling to commit large naval units in an area where they could be easily spotted by aircraft and then attacked and sunk by aircraft. Futhermore, both Yamato and Musashi consumed large amounts of fuel, which was something the Japanese could not afford. So the Japanese COULD have used them, the depth of the water wasn’t an issue, but they didn’t want to commit them because it was too much of a risk to lose them.
@ijnfleetadmiral
6 ай бұрын
@@lmgbros7723 Agreed. Not only were they MASSIVE fuel hogs, the two super-battleships were fairly slow (27 knots as compared to 30 knots for the Kongo class fast battleships). They wouldn't have been able to get out of range of Henderson Field's aircraft in time had they gone on a night bombardment mission. Had the Japanese really wanted to put a hurt on the Allied naval forces around the island, they should've sent in the light cruisers Kitakami and Ooi, which had been - right before the war - converted into torpedo cruisers, boasting up to TEN QUAD 'Long Lance' torpedo mounts.
@lmgbros7723

@@ijnfleetadmiral the Oi and Kitikami would have proved to be devastating to allied ships if they were present at any naval surface engagements, but I’m sure aircraft still would have gotten to them in any case, regardless of how many ships they would have sunk.

Japanese battle doctrine is different with US ,die for emperor,charge into enemy no matter what happened.
@shadowywarrior
6 ай бұрын
well.....they did have..."tanks" they weren't great....in fact they were so outdated that it wasn't even a contest. THey couldn't compete. They were able to be knocked out by the outdated United States T30s which were basically half tracks with howizters on them and Frontal hits with Bazookas could rip through them. There's alot of instances where even small arms were able to punch through. Basically, their tanks were designed to be light because they lacked any sort of sufficient infrastructure to heavy lift these things onto islands. And they needed very light tanks for controlling islands. They weren't a match for M3/M5 Stuarts, they weren't a match for the T30 assault guns, and they certainly weren't a match for the M4 Sherman. THere were only a few exceptions and that was during the late stages of the war that japan desperately started trying to build heavy tanks with bigger guns. Which would have been able to do something if they didn't suck. remember that the Japanese Navy and Japanese Army had to fight each other for resources. Army got the short end of the stick

The Japanese soldiers were both incredible brave and stupid to die for their emperor. I don’t get why they just go and charge and ended up dying without second thought.
@warfare11gaming

Some did it because they would have died of hunger anyways due to lack of supplies or simply because their honor did not allow them to give up. I'm not a historian but there are definitely more reasonings.
