80 Series LandCruiser Vs. 2nd Gen Montero SR
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
The land cruiser is now sold - Most of this is just me rambling, but I point out some differences between my ‘97 80 series and ‘97 Montero SR. Both great cars with slightly different purposes!
I'm actively seeking interesting cars to make videos about.

Completely fair assessment. I do really like LCs....but Monteros checks all the marks for me. Either or...they are both great platforms.
Montero all day.
Great video! I had the 93 black Montero 5spd in 2015 but was hit and totaled. Miss that beautiful machine. However, I bought a 91 LC and these are amazing vehicles. You are right on point with the specs and thank for this video. (Was looking into buying another Montero, as a second runner, so that's how I found your video). Cheers!
ANY TRUCK MITSUBISHI, TOYOTA AND NISSAN MADE BEFORE 2000 ARE MUCH MORE RELIABLE THAN ANYTHING MADE AFTER 2000. MY 100 SERIES LC BLEW IT'S AUTO TRANSMISSION AT 245K MILES (FACTORY DEFECT: O/D BEARING FAILURE). OUR 1990 LN106 HILUX IS KEEP RUNNING: THE BEST AND MOST RELIABLE TRUCK EVER MADE. IF YOU MAINTAIN ANY CAR (MITSU, TOY, NISSAN) MADE PRIOR TO 2000 WILL RUN FOR EVER

Cars today are made to be replaced. Back in the day, the industry was far more competitive which let manufacturers to create some pretty damn impressive machines

Made in Japan Toyotas and Lexuses prior or after 2000 will run forever.
I just picked up a Gen 2.5 Montero a few months ago. While pretty popular overseas, they seem to go under the radar here and thus prices are actually quite nice.....IF you can find one. I was just looking for a general small 4X4 SUV like a Cherokee and lucked into it without knowing what I'd found. Mine has 171K, general consensus seems to say the motor should last 250-300K, as long as you change the timing belt every 50-60K. Valve seals are also a known issue, but shouldn't be a deterrent. Coming from a 1/2 ton Chevy, I definitely feel just a little claustrophobic in the Montero, but the more I drive it the more I like it. Mine has a 2" lift and 33" BFGs, and I haven't been offroad yet but I feel it would be capable and tough enough to go wherever I wished. Happy with my purchase? Yes I am.
my first car is a Montero 1992 i got it 3 months ago and i am very lucky that there is no rust
Both are beautiful and extremely capable vehicles. I like the Montero more, however I recognize that the Land Cruiser is probably better build and might possess a higher quality.

they are nearly same quality
I think the battery voltage meters are something to do with the winter pack, so you can keep visuals on voltage drop in cold weather/countries?

That totally makes sense 👌
If you own a Landcruiser, its not for the gas milage.
Montero 3.0L 177HP 188 torque. Landcruiser 4.0L 212HP
Ill pick the montero
Do you know if the montero has a decent towing capability? I’m considering moving out of state and was wondering if the montero could handle towing a car?

The towing capacity of the 2nd gen Montero is 5,000lbs. I own two of them and I used one to flat tow the other 750 miles home. They're built beefier than most half ton pickups, closer to a 3/4 ton. Good brakes too.
Montero!
Well put free wheeling hubs in the 80 definitely improved fuel efficiency. Ten fold
So I’m considering finding a 2nd g montero. I know it won’t get to 85mph. Very quick but can you coast at 85 once you get there?

Please elaborate on your experience at triple digit speeds in one of these please. I have an 02 and it's comfortable at 75 and never thought to go faster as it is what it is, what was your long-term high-speed cruising speed if I may ask? I had a friend who drove one back and forth from Arizona to Minnesota for years and loved it but he was not doing over 75 either, thanks
which bumper is that on LC?

@@huangwilliam428 did you end up selling it?
Having owned both and both were also 1997 models. And both in diesel. The 80 series was fitted with the 1HZ 4.2 litre straight 6. The Pajero (which i still own) fitted with the 4 cylinder 2.8 turbo intercooled motor. Yes the cruiser was bigger. But also way more expensive to run and maintain. And don't believe that bullshit about Toyota reliability! They do break down and do so expensively. The reason i still own the Pajero. Oh and Pajero is way more capable off road.

Thank you!!! I too have owned 4 Toyotas and neither one was super reliable.

Toyota reliability depends on the people owning them. They're incredibly robust and reliable if maintained properly with OEM parts. The more aftermarket parts, the less reliable. It's as simple as that. Some people are just unlucky that the previous owner was lazy or incredibly cheap. One important factor is "Made in Japan", nothing comes close! Only some Toyota and Lexus models are still made in Japan (Lexus GX and LX, Toyota 4Runner, Land Cruiser, FJ Cruiser).
