Instead of pumping it out, why not just have an overflow valve/tube? You would never have to worry about over filling or the level. Just wondering if I am missing something crucial.

Great question. I tried that on my last one, with a 350gph pump and a one inch overflow it constantly was overflowing the tank. I had to put a ball valve on the pump hose and just let the water trickle in.I wanted as much water in and out as possible on this one .It would take a massive overflow hole to keep up with an 800gph pump. A friend Of mine has his set up with an overflow and he has a 4” drain to keep up with the pump. An overflow also has to exit the boat below the waterline in the tank which isn’t possible in my boat unless I let the tank fill almost completely up to the top or cut a hole in the side of my boat. you could simply let it empty into the boat and let the bilge pump pump it out, but then you have 2 pumps running again. Without the pump in the livewell I would also lose the ability to recirculate the water. This has just been my experience, I Hope this answered your question, thanks for watching.

You can put a float switch on the inflow pump so that if the water level gets too high it will automatically shut off so that your output pump can catch up. No valve restriction needed.

Very fine job. Always enjoy your videos. My tank just has a high water overfill. I turn the pump on and let it run as the water gets high it just runs out the over fill. When the boat is running I have a Metal Marine pump kit that has a lift arm and spray head to keep air and water moving. Tank only needs two holes, one for the inflow, one for the over fill.

Great solution. I'd say you can put an overflow opening at the desired water level and only need to pump water in. once it hits the overflow, it will drain out. this keeps you from having to worry it about pumping it out, ensuring that you'll never overflow.
