8 Weeks Winter Camping - March Storm, Fortifying Tent
Ойын-сауық
A storm blew in and I had to reinforce the tent. High winds, snowfall warning, and cold temperatures. Hunkering down for the night!

@Keith White I’ve learned quite a few things from his adventures, he’s entertaining and fun to watch and that’s the whole point now isn’t it? If you don’t enjoy his content then don’t watch! It should be pretty simple, even for a simple person like yourself!

I just love how you create affordable solutions to your camping issues, great job staying warm in those awful conditions
My all time favorite Camping With Steve episode
Great idea with the adjustable paint brush pole! I think being in that tent during a storm is exciting and makes the adventure all the more worth while.
I love the camping we with you Steve! The cold almost comes through the web...the food you fix is simple, but I am sure it is delicious...I know your wife is a lovely lady, but doesn't want to be seen on screen...I get that and I respect you for not insisting she be involved...I wonder just how much she is behind the camera in your videos....You are an excellent director in keeping the conversation and the scenes changing. It is better than watching a movie because the episodes are short enough and different enough that I have never gotten bored! Thanks and thank your lady for us in giving her blessings on your camping trips!
I watched these a couple of years ago and subscribed to the channel. Life got busy but just noticed ALOT more new videos! I’m loving the stealth camping and now going back and watching the 8 week series again
I think this is the first video I saw... I was inspired by the tent's ability to withstand such weather. Long story made short I own 2 Gazelles and a Clam Shelter tent now. Love them but I've also seen the video where your tent flips in the wind. I bought several 6ft dog leashes. I clip them to the pull out eye bolts then stake them down. They were a lifesaver when 40 mph winds hit camp on Lake Michigan. My tent didnt budge. I will always owe you a debt of gratitude and a step 2, Steve. 63 years young and camping has never been so easy as it is with these tents!
Love this show!..........no BS.......all layman's terms and budget...REAL!
You should actually camp in storms. I always find the episodes where it's stormy to be the most interesting. Keep up the good channel
Stick a tennis ball 🎾 on top of the pole to protect the fabric of the tent.

First, I think you own the camping part of this. Second, I'm impressed that you are able to do this in what is certainly a life change, with significant future implications. Third, I am sure folks will be understanding if the posts slow if you need more time for your studies. Make sure you remember why you are there. Finally, I wish you nothing but success. I had a similar situation where I needed to stay away from home for work purposes. Mine worked out, I hope your situation turns out roses. Good Luck and Godspeed.

I have just spent a good few hours watching all your videos, I enjoy camping in the UK where I'm from but I'm more of a summer time camper. This makes me wanna find somewhere real cold and camp. Good work man!

An old tennis ball or sock/rag on the top of your pole support will keep it from possibly ripping thru your shelter.

Steve, I recently found you on KZread. Great stuff. I know the feeling you get when camping alone in a storm. I'm glad I've experienced what you have. I'm ready to do it again after a long time. It's exhiratating, yet comforting when you're in a warm dry tent, and it's nasty outside

Great videos Steve! Keep keeping it real bud
A better thing to use as stakes is to use 1ft long nails. They are normally less than $1 a piece and will last u a long time. Lowes sells them not sure about other hardware stores
Just watched a bunch of your videos and you gained yourself a new subscriber that's forsure ! It's late night here in Ontario so I'm going to Hunker Down for the night myself ;) love it. Hahaha. Goodnight everyone!
cords from the centers of the walls out and staked down will keep them from popping in, and shovel snow on that little skirt that goes around the outside will help seal out the wind and anchor it even more.
Love you Steve thanks for letting me come along out there!
It's easy to get rid of the wind. All you have to do is hit up an equalizer and reduce all the bass. The wind will be gone with it.

I use 3/8" rebar for tent stakes, I bent a "U" on one end to hold the tie down and easy to hammer on. Tie a loop of rope around the "U" to pull em out. . .

im extremely glad i found your channel im loving all the videos, keep up the great videos man
as someone from new york i cant imagine what the weather is like up there, its terrible here!
Dude you rock.
I love your videos. Keep doing what u do best bud. Had a thought on the wind. If I were u any time there is snow available I would stake the tent then use snow around the edges. Just to keep the wind from getting underneath and blowing the tent away. Especially since u have the extending paint rod pushing up already. Surprised how well that ice fishing tent holds up. It's amazing haha
Reminds me about that one time Mark Watney's tent blew up in Mars and was flapping in the wind being held by duct tape.
You had me interested at "hunkering down" but lost me at doing the dishes..lol. Stay warm our there brother.
Oh wow, I just realized you are the same guy as in the Boondocking video I seen years ago. Glad you are making new stuff. Subbed.
When you anchor a tent, you need to put the pins in at an angle towards you, probably 30-50 degrees. If it is straight, it has very little function because the walls of the tent make a sail that also pulls upward.
Really like the videos !! 🇺🇸
videos are getting much better

When using your ice house you should always bank it with the snow. Not only does it help to keep it warmer but it also will help hold it down better. Also, if you ever purchase another one, you should check out the insulated ones. I have both. There is no condensation build up with the insulated.

May I suggest parking the truck against the tent broadside on the upwind side to block most of the wind? Also, I am sure you could find a 2x2 post in town at a hrdware/lumber store for a lodgepole. Snow around the tent base is a good way to block wind. Be careful about lowering the flu. I would have brought a spool of bailing wire and staked the flu to the ground.
@campingwithsteve
6 жыл бұрын
Snow around the base is a great idea, but I have to take down the tent on the weekends to go be with my wife. I find that it gets pretty frozen into the ground if I have too much snow piled up against it. If I wasn't moving the tent... oh ya.. I'd have it encased in snow.
@TheJusnic82
4 жыл бұрын
ice fishing tents dont need snow piled up on the outsides... most (like the one I have) have 6 inch flaps that lay on the ground around the tent so you can kick a bit of snow on top of those flaps if you want, but for tear-down purposes probably dont want to pile snow up against the tent walls
1:57 If you had some type of telescopic pole that had a flat base for the bottom and a series of holes where you could place a pin through the pole you could extend the pole so the roof would not come down when snow lands on the roof? 12:44 Was it hard to pull the bolts out of the ground? As well I think it would be cool if you and Crazy Neighbor could go camping there for a few days just for old time sake?
Steve, just wanted to say I thoroughly enjoy watching your videos. Keep up the awesome work and enjoy the step 2! If you ever get a chance to get some petosky brewing company of petosky Michigan. Awesome brews!
Steve, you should get yourself one of those thermoelectric fans to set on your stove to help move warm air around. You can rig it to your big buddy heater too.

First off Steve is the man. I love this channel. I watch while at work and have the captions on which can just be a hilarious way to watch at times. Instead of "Salisbury Steaks" it says "South Korean States" etc. Gets quite hilarious when it seems like Steve is just raving mad and talking jibberish. Big fan from Boston, MA.
i would need to cover them in gravy, they look amazing
Yeah, I worked in the Calgary/ Banff area with a company r.c.r. Vehicle, running the treatment plants for the various ski resorts they owned at the time. Your videos give me back the feels that I felt when I was a part of that landscape. I’m in far North Queensland, Australia, now. ✌️
Adio was not bad good job editing i was watching the documentary u made with ghe rv and that was amazing.... amazi g editing it was like watcbing a movie on netflix frfr good job Steve love the videos👍👍👍👍
I love your video and it's awesome that you're sharing your experience and I really enjoyed your video. It's odd though: I watch alot of videos about camping and stuff and it's incredible to me that everyone has some unskilled version of fire starting. I'm sure you can, and I'm sure your pellets are great, but nobody seems to build fires from scratch in these type of videos.
Hi Steve. Ive really enjoyed watching your videos. So much in fact that I just purchased a Clam Escape and a wood stove. What or how would you suggest I use as a stove Jack? How did you go about sewing the one you have in some of your videos? Have you found anything that's better on the market?CheersBret
That meal looked delicious.
Hang in there...summer comein

Hey dude I think your really cool. I think it’s cool how you camp
When you do winter camping like you know you are dedicated. I have done some of that extreme camping in Minnesota and U.P. Michigan. A little time in Ontario and South Dakota also. If not super cold it beats camping in the heat anytime.

Thank you. I appreciate you taking the time to care to explain. 😘
Place apiece of 2"x 6"" x6" plywood between your paint pole and the canvas top so it doesn't rip a hole in your top, thank you, Rev
enjoy your videos, how do you like burning pellets? do they last long, good heat?
Well that answered my question about the pop up tent closing on you in a storm. Stay safe.
Invest in an arctic military surplus tent. Follow the instructions including digging a "cold hole" inside the tent at the door opening. Secure the stove chimney with guide lines.
Love your vids bud. I wouldn't put that fire starter under the wood stove though...
Just found Steves Channel.. Im Ontario Canada. He's blunt , funny ,Smart.. Calms me down.. Hot tent wood Stove thing. 😎

something that i found works well as a fire starter is salt and vinegar potato chips, regular potato chips work well but the vinegar being a type of fermentation makes it very easy to light and it doubles as a food source... wait its the other way round. welp either way still a good thing to pack in a survival pack if i were to put one together myself

Extra oregano in the Salisbury Steaks helps with the hunkering down!
The extension rod is a great idea but I wonder why you didn't put in proper, good tent stakes and guy lines in when you set the tent up?
i realize this is an old video, but, i noticed loops around the outside of the tent walls and i wondered if you could double anchor the tent on the outside too. loop some cordage through those grommets(in a circle). even if you only tie one to the vehicle, and one to a tree, itd still be better anchored.
The picture of your tent on my KZread looks like a monster Squid latched onto it. Hey, what kind of tent is that? Is it wet yet?
here's a survival tip little bit of candle wax drink carriers like those little cartons that you get from fast food restaurants dryer lint that get a fire going very fast and dryer lint is very very flammabled.
Why didnt u put ur car in front of the tent to kinda block the wind
Attaching upper guys will do a lot to stabilize a tent. Will snow actually accumulate on a very warm tent roof?
looks warm

May I say I am surprised you did not tie down the tent at the points provided outside....it's good to have a short, strong bungee cord at all the tie outs.... that way the tent will seldom pull tight and break or rip the tent.
i was wondering why you didnt use what looks like a snow skirt on the tent? the red part at the bottom looks like you could have rolled it to the outside and after you staked it down i would have built up snow on it all the way around the tent for extra stability, but still looks like fun
Hey Steve, love the videos! I probably missed it in the previous videos but how often do you have to feed those wood pellets to keep the stove going?
