I recently had a mini gastric bypass and have had no problems so far but that does not mean I won’t have in the future. At my last appointment with my Surgeon before my Operation, he told me some very wise words - if anyone tells you that WLS is the easy way out, tell them to go and walk into oncoming traffic. It is not easy, the two week pre-op diet and the two week post-op liquid diet are not for the faint hearted 😊

Would you mind explaining what a mini gastric bypass is? Just curious, not heard of it before 😊

One pro for keeping track of your measurement is sometimes during those plateau weight periods you can find your measurements are still changing and that can keep you motivated. Also, you can get unflavored protein powder to make your own shake any flavor you like. Love that you stress non-scale victories, so important!

Hi you are an amazing inspiration. I have lost 6 and a half stone now and these tips can still be for me too a slimming world member for 17 months now. I agree totally with you about non scale victories I always paid emphasis on scales which is not be all and end all. I would beat myself up if I gained a pound one week. But my overall weight loss has given me a better life more healthy too. Thanks for sharing your journey. It’s amazing. Xxxx

Straining helped so much in the beginning. Couldn't have seeds, strawberries, grapes etc til month 2 but helped keep lumps and bits out. I also had to make sure any protein shakes weren't foamy after blending it. I was so sensitive with the foam I didn't dare drink any shakes that had them. A few sample protein packets I had they foamed up like crazy. Oh wow you're almost 100lbs down since surgery? Amazing!

I’ve been jumping through all the bariatric clinic’s hoops. On Monday I finally get to talk with the surgeon! You’re doing so great. Thank you for all these tips. I hadn’t even thought about getting therapy prior to surgery!

Good luck to you! I'm currently doing the hoops as well. I saw you on Kaki's Journey. Love her! Check with your surgeon. Mine requires a psychiatric consult prior to surgery.

So helpful. Thank you. Have you ever had issues with plane seats at you biggest? I know you can get extender seat belts but the actual seat itself? Havnt flown in a few years and nervous!

I’m a size 26 and depends on the seat but I carry most of my weight in my thighs and whilst it doesn’t stop me holidaying twice a year, it can really hurt. I find a window seat the best as you can raise the arm rest and get a bit of extra space but I also need to have family beside me so I can spread into their seat a little. I do often have numb bum and lots of pain from compressed nerves in my thighs from flying. For budget UK airlines jet2 have the best seats.

Don't obsess on how you look. Concentrate how good you feel...Do you suffer from as much pain as you did before you lost weight? Are your cloths getting to big for you? Can you do more physically than you did before?

Hey I’m 6 days post op! I spent ages pre-surgery finding my fave protein shake and tbh I didn’t have much of a problem I liked them all! Post op, they now make me sick!🤮 definitely feeling nauseous and I think tastebuds have changed! Anything too sweet now I can’t stomach!

The same thing happened to me. My favorite protein powder was sickeningly sweet after post-op. The best thing to do is to buy an unflavored whey protein powder. I used Isopure for many months, and Bari life has a great chicken broth flavored protein powder. I also suggest a collagen based protein powder. It can be added to any food or drink, and it’s pretty flavorless. Mix it with water and crystal light, then freeze it to make collagen protein pops.

Would you have considered taking weight loss drugs such as Ozempic if it had been available at the time instead of undergoing surgery?

I can tell you that I, personally was told at 265 lbs. 5’5” I probably wouldn’t lose more than 65 lbs. With the shot by my family physician. That’s why I went on with the bypass
