I looked at your channel only to find out I've already seen the SoC video. That video is probably the most well researched vid on this site. Keep up the good work, sir.

You're a genius at these, Jacob. Didn't think I'd learn so much about faith, architecture, and loss in one night. But I sure did. Great, great job at these.
6:00 1. **Have your video be about something.** Be able to summarize a video's idea in a sentence. Have a direction. 9:30 2. **Timeliness is not as important as novelty.** People already have creators who have opinions -- bad for growth. Nostalgia > New Thing NOW. 12:00 3. **Be personal.** Talk about YOUR experience. Objectivity isn't as good as emotion and/or empathy. Personality and your audience's understanding of you/your-brand is important. "I like this because I'm a person and playing this makes me feel good." 15:40 4. **Play to your strengths.** Pool from your knowledge bases outside of gaming. 18:00 5. **You are making a video.** Use the medium to its fullest (music, punches, cuts) [the video tells you what to think -- the music tells you what to feel] 22:00 6. **No series'** -- Movies > TV Shows Clear thumbnail -- tells a story 28:20 7. **Record your voiceover while you're listening to music** Tone is important and music will affect how you speak. Get used to your voice, it's part of your brand. 31:40 8. **Your equipment, tech, and/or software is not that important** Don't treat it as a roadblock.

For real
4:18 Omg hearing that felt like a punch in the gut, that's a pretty good chunk of ad revenue out the door. 9:34 - Yes. Yes. Yes. Retrospectives are huge for a reason.
This video is grossly underrated

Glad you found it!
It's great to hear from Jacob, I discovered his channel a while back around the time his SoC video exploded and I've loved it. I'd love to see him more often around MinnMax, he's got some great takes.
I loved Jacob's video on Mirror's Edge, I saw it a while back, it's cool to see him on this!
I didn't know that Jacob was a former GI member, what a small world! I loved his SOTC and Mario Galaxy videos. Great job!
I super recommend filmora for videos if you don't know that much about editing. It has so many built in effects that are just nice looking. There are text effects in there that I can't replicate elsewhere, and it's all drag and drop.
Jacob Geller, you've gotten yourself a new subscriber! Very useful especially since I'm looking into making video essays about videogames I love. I enjoyed this interview because of how deeply insightful and specific the tips are. 😊
Excellent tips! Thanks for the post on this!

Glad you enjoyed them!
Even though I don’t always make videos with narration, this is some really interesting and useful advice. I’ll definitely make a note of it, much appreciated!
This video is exactly what I need. Thank you so very much
I'm glad I found this. Big fan of Jacob and want to make video essays so this is exactly what I need
For some reason, that exterior light hitting your arms from underneath the blanket looks really cool.
Woah. This. Is. Content! For reals though, really excited for more of these unique videos
Shout out to the Box Peek/Easy Allies shirt! “Shout ouuuut”
Super insightful!
This discussion is very inspiring.
I've been looking for this video for 3 years. Guys, this is the one
That's a nice one. His channel is good work indeed.
Came here from a recommendation by Razbuten on his stream. Great talk and amazing tips!
This dude makes some incredible videos
Thanx ben. It was very good. man I love you. you are such a real man.
"Hook a rando" - I bet there's a rock band somewhere with this name.
wow, thanks for the insight Mr.Geller....
Came for a tips video, stayed for a coming of age story.
Oh crap, he made that video? That’s cool!
You can have everything in a video be poor quality, but NOT the audio.
KZread, it knows what I want.
Cool :)
...but mainly just get people with an established audience to share on twitter. xD
Jacob YES! I hate this current trend of 5 hour long "analysis" videos. In the end it's always just a highly subjective and in-depth form of game review but with the problem of convincing/influencing brainlets who watch it into thinking it's objective fact and not subjective opinion. Double hate if the reviewer has some sort of British/Irish accent that makes them appear far cleverer than they really are.
