    I’ve been slumping so hard lately. I mean, losing over 100 points in the past month or so. I find myself getting my pawns picked off left and right I’m hoping this will provide some insight into this struggle I’ve been going through. I’m an aggressive player so I have a tendency to let pawns go in the name of “piece activity” but then find myself having no pawns to support my good knights, or having no passers when my opponent is able to create one (usually with the pawn he took my sacced pawn with). Love your content brother I’ve been following for about a year now, maybe a little less. Always something to learn from you!

    You're sure you're not over doing it? Or are you miscalculating insofar as overlooking tactical shots? Do you think a less aggressive opening would help? Have you thought of trying narrow down the type or of mistakes you are making?

  • @dakotathomas2139

    @dakotathomas2139

    @@3trilogy I only know a few openings well, to be fair. I would definitely benefit from some more positional play and understanding. I do miscalculate at times and I fall into the trap of not calculating far enough, or making a move because “well this has to be good”. Most of my mistakes are from tunnel vision where I think I have a successful attack but I miss some defensive ideas from my opponent. Also I don’t really have any solid openings. I play a lot of kings gambit and scotch and go for quick attacks. Sometimes too quick. I’ve been dabbling into more positional openings like the Ruy and find myself just making dumb moves trying to gambit something I shouldn’t. I unfortunately don’t have a lot of time to just sit down and make my own notebooks full of opening lines, as much as I would love to. I play mostly for fun but I also play mostly at night after work where I’m not as mentally sharp as I could be. Overall I’m not complaining I love the game regardless of wins and losses but it’s just been really rough going lately haha

    One additional key reason I would add is when you are playing an opposite-side castling attack. I use this concept a lot, sacrificing a pawn or ignoring it is usually a great way to break through the king's defence and to get earlier to a direct attack.

    4:46 that's kinda interesting, because that means in the starting position, white has half of a tempo (if white gives up a tempo then black has the "half-tempo" advantage), so white would have a 1/6 of a pawn advantage, or +0.17 in the starting position.

    Sometimes i get confused as to when to push a pawn or not to push it, or when is an appropriate time to open the centre

  • @KT-dq6wv

    @KT-dq6wv

    2 жыл бұрын

    Good principle for opening the centre or making any pawn break move is, when you are attacking you should do it. For example when you are head in development in the side you want to attack. Pawn push in the other hand, with no intention to open up might be a good defensive move. So in short when attacking: open the lines, when defending: close up the position.

    As for the last position, I couldn't for my life understand why Qxd6 was such a strong move. Why would anyone wnat to play that? .... until the computer told me that after ... Be6, White has the really strong reply Rd3! I tried an attacking plan with h3 and g4, but that's too slow. I also tried b4 Qxb2 2 Kd2, but Black can just escape with the queen to a4 and if necessary to c6. So ... Kb1 is better. If you don't see Rd3 in the other line there is also the calm a3 (after first taking on f6), which is alos good for White. Kb1 is not ideal here since, White after ... Be6 has to lose another tempo with a3 or b3 anyway.
