So let’s get into it! The 8 things that happen when you stop drinking alcohol.
1. The Truth about Withdrawal
When you quit drinking, are you going to withdraw? Well, this often puts a lot of people off stopping. I’ve heard it all a tonne of times. “Don’t you need to detox when you stop drinking?” Or “Isn’t it dangerous to quit drinking?” Well, depending on how long you have consumed alcohol for, and how much alcohol you consume, you may well have some withdrawal symptoms… And, if you are very physically addicted to alcohol, then seek medical attention.
But, for those of you that have decided to embrace those feelings…Think of it like this… The crazy thing is, if you are feeling withdrawal symptoms, this means you’re doing something right! You are stopping! Drinking more alcohol isn’t going to fix your withdrawal symptoms. It’s just going to prolong them. The reality is, most people can fight through that first bit of withdrawal and discomfort.
If you drink alcohol, you deal with withdrawal every single day. What do you think is happening in between those gaps when you’re not drinking? However when you stop, you can welcome those feelings of discomfort and think: “I know exactly what you’re doing here, body! And I’m not going to listen to you, dumbass!” If you’re worried about withdrawal, go to your doctor. But, if you’re ready for it, more power to you my friend!
2. You will get way better skin
The second thing you can expect from quitting drinking is that your skin will get a TONNE better. Firstly, any redness in your skin will start clear up. Interestingly, when we drink, there is a chemical reaction that causes our peripheral blood vessels to expand and widen. This can often cause that typical red, flushed skin. It can take a few weeks, but eventually, the blood vessels will constrict and redness in the skin will disappear.
If your surpass 30 days, this will only get better. Alcohol is also a diuretic, and causes huge amounts of dehydration. When you drink your wrinkles and pores become much more visible. By drinking plenty of water and stopping drinking alcohol, your skin will restore its natural plumpness and healthy glow, and wrinkles and bad skin will start to diminish.
Don’t be surprised if your friends and colleagues compliment you on how much better you are looking.
3. Cravings
What about cravings? Are you going to experience any cravings when you give up? Well, you know what, it’s entirely possible. Alcohol is an extremely addictive drug If you’ve drank for a number of years, you’re conditioned to think of alcohol in so many different situations. Weddings, dates, parties, whatever. And when you see other people drinking alcohol and having a “good time”, you may feel as though you’re missing out.

Have you heard people talk about - Baanubrey Illustrious Breakthrough - (Have a quick look on google cant remember the place now )? It is a great exclusive guide for discovering how to quit drinking minus the normal expense. Ive heard some amazing things about it and my colleague got cool success with it.

There are a few ideas for quitting alcohol at home Try eating food while you are drinking - this cuts down the amount you drink. Take a break from drinking. Make a note of how much you drink, then you know if you are cutting down. Set yourself goals - don't make them too difficult at first. Choose one or two days or each week when you will not drink at all. Next, try to stop drinking for one week per month. (Reference: Adoette Drink Plan site )

I haven't been drinking for more than 10 years. First months the feeling was great. It felt like all the problems were gone. But after 6 months it started to get worse and I got more and more depressed and anxious and wanted to get drunk as never before. I felt so bad psychologically it gave motivation to work with myself mentally as I didn't want to restart drinking. Turns out alcohol was acting as kind of a safety-valve to get rid of the negative emotions. After learning how to deal with them using other methods it started to get better. After about 3 years I forgot the pleasant sensation of being drunk so there was no physical urge to drink anymore. Get ready to entertain yourself as life might feel more boring. Social events will take more effort. And after these years sober the one thing I miss the most is the drive, decisiveness, confidence and creative inspiration I had while drunk, but I chose health, relationships, wellbeing and life (as I might as well be dead by now with that lifestyle). So it's not all roses. There's something you'll have to sacrifice. So pick your priorities and good luck on your journey. Your experience may vary.

Well said Sir. However I do not want to completely quit having a drink, I say having a drink instead of drinking because drinking means you keep doing it once you have started. I personally love having a sip of whiskey from a flask when sat next to the fire after hiking many miles & camping. I may also have a cigar? However I am not hiking for most of the year & I don't wake up in the morning needing a smoke! I am doing a 8 week body challenge atm so no drinking or smoking, but I almost know for certain at the end of the challenge a cheeseburger & pint of Guinness will be had. This Christmas I had port & cheese the funny thing was it was like my body needed it as I woke up in the morning feeling amazing with loads of energy, however I do know from past experiences that if I were to drink most days & eat rubbish all the time then I would wake up feeling crap with low energy. Well it's nearly 04:30am time to get in the gym & crush a workout. Laters.

As I sat there in withdrawals, that’s when I decided enough is enough. Tmrw i will be going to AA so I can seek actual help, instead of lying to myself saying I can do this. Wish me luck folks, and prayers, I’ll gladly take this prayers. Have a good evening.

I'm an alcoholic. Yeah, all of the stuff said in this video is true. This was a good video. I especially can relate to the sugar cravings part when you quit. I am a middle aged guy who has been drinking hard for a long time. I drink hard for a few years until my body can no longer take it and then I quit for a few years. I am currently sober and I want to stay that way. I'll say this- my body still feels like hell after I quit (probably because I am getting older) but the one part I do cherish while I am sober is the mental clarity that comes along with it. I am able to think more clearly. I also act like a better person when I don't drink. When I drink I am a person I do not want to be. I am a mean drunk. But when I quit alcohol, that personality goes away. I am the person I have always wanted to be when I am not drinking. I'm a more pleasant person. I also stop being a hermit and I become a better friend to people when I am sober. So that gives me motivation to not pick up that drink.

The hardest thing for me has been reshaping my life so that I don’t have difficulty putting myself in a situation where I am tempted to relapse. Finding new friends is hard at 32yrs old. I’ve taken on a couple of new hobbies and It’s helped so far. I’m really trying to follow your advice on how to create new character.

Love this channel. Addiction to alcohol effects my entire family and myself. I never drank until I was 23 and from the first buzz and sip, I was hooked. I didn't know why, however, I do now. I have had ups and downs with it, I have PTSD due to my life and career, and alcohol was always my self medication. I currently am done and have made it a couple of weeks, but, I give in again and again. I want to stop for good. I also know that with God and supportive friends/family its possible. I know many who stopped for years now with divine help, but, still have cravings and have to pray daily. I am glad I found this Sober Leon channel. I have been listening daily. Thank you.

I've found the easiest way to deal with people who want me to drink is this: "I'm not allowed to drink for 90 days- doctors orders." It gives them a non-social reason that their offer is being rejected. But if you're classy, buy them a drink (and a ginger ale for yourself)

All about your mind’s strength! Absolutely, no side effects at all. My brother has started at the age 18 and stopped at 50. Now 6 years have finished without them. By the way , He was a cute daily drinker ! Never fought , suicide feeling shit or depression etc. After he quit by himself He kept whiskey, brandy , wine and beer (one bottle each) on his shelf in the dining room. Still they are all in fresh condition means never opened or touched either! He is the real man of the world with powerful mind !
