8 Things They Thought You Knew (GCBI 101.11)

Dr. Randy Smith explains eight basic presuppositions that every Bible student should understand about the Bible and it's authors. These ideas are crucial to a full understanding of the Principle Approach to Scripture, the backbone of the curriculum of GCBI.

The Bible being a living book , means that its truths would not be displaced whether the reading was Biblical or modern. So, while I appreciate all that you have said about the context of the Biblical writer, I think that without knowing all that , a person could still receive truth from the Bible in this modern and Western context and the truth would set them free.

Of course you are right, dermadove. The Bible is a living thing. But Aren't you the least bit curious, especially about the thought process for a western person vs. eastern person? It may become relevant a lot sooner than we think.

I agree. I was worried he would deny the magic in expositional study and revelations when you connect the parables, the text translation, the books and discover the entire book is written of Jesus but speaks to us. I do appreciate the understanding of the writers , from this study I now have a need to want to memorize the Bible. Just not sure where to start

@@Tryin2Bnice45 you could try Deuteronomy! How are you going with memorisation? Imagine you had no Bible, or you were in prison for your faith. What would be most helpful. At 63 yo I wish I had memorised earlier.

I agree with you. The reason I am here though is because of translations such as the passion bible which claim to have a deeper insight into the Bible but have no basis for the claims. Mind you the scribes and Pharisees knew their Bibles well and still missed the point!

Interestingly, there is also a small tribe in South America today who thinks directionally much like the Israelites(ie there past is in front of them, and future behind). They are called the Aymara.

This is why Africa is such a mess, its all tribal cultures, very unique ways of interpreting things, yet colonialism forced western cultural ways on them, today we see the consequences.
