ABOUT A TO ZEN LIFE
Along my journey to let go of 30 years of clutter, I accidentally became a minimalist and it was life-changing.
Before, I was an emotional hoarder with nothing but the clutter from lost loved ones - and $25,000 of debt - to my name. Now I have a beautiful home in Europe, a happy family, live debt-free, and - best of all - wake up to a life that I’m EXCITED to live every day.
My mission is to help you conquer your clutter and simplify YOUR way to a happier and better life. HERE'S OUR STORY: atozenlife.com/about-a-to-zen...

Thank you for the video.👀 That sentence about boundaries hit me like a sledge-hammer. I'm very much a people-pleaser too and while I did work on my boundaries lately, it's still fresh and not yet all that stable. The idea to just toogle the default answer to "no" and save my "yes"s for the things that matter to me, is to me genius. I wouldn't have thought of that. Ever. But I have a really good feeling, that it will help me really, really much. Sure, at first some people may get upset, because as you pointed out, they don't benefit from me any longer. But over time, it will save me so much headaches and heartaches. And from experience I already know, they will also get upset if I'm flat out not able for whatever reason to follow their requests/demands. For this one alone: thank you soo, soo much. The other tips are probably great too, but I don't have personal experience with much of those yet, so I can't really say. By the way, I'm from the year of the rabbit. Just looked it up, and found so many similarities, that I'm pretty gobsmacked. Anyway, thank you again for these tips.
“The only people who get upset when you set boundaries are those who benefitted from you having none." So true! It helps me to tell people "I have a tendency to overcommit, so can I check my schedule and get back to you?" Their response helps me gauge their graciousness (or lack thereof), which sometimes makes my answer very easy! I have no time for entitled people but will happily go out of my way for kind, reciprocal souls. : - ) ❤
The book 'Atomic Habits' was really helpful in me figuring out how to be consistent with some daily resistance training. I do my makeup every morning. Sounds strange, but in between reps, I do my makeup, lol. And I walk during my coffee and lunch break at work so that's 45 minutes of walking a day that I really enjoy, especially after sitting at a computer
Similar to your downtime I just read in a book about the importance of "wasting time" with others. It's time for bonding and just relaxing without any agenda. As a very organized and focused person, I just loved the decadent sound of "wasting time" and am trying to incorporate this idea into our family life. Such as saying to my kids-- let's go waste some time together this afternoon. And then going off on a walk or hike. Because truly, what is life without a little "wasted" time? The fact is that the "waste" is actually the fruit of your labors.
I’ll have to look into affirmations. It always sounded silly to me, but I guess replacing my morning routine of asking myself what’s the use of even getting out of bed with telling myself that I have something to contribute to my workplace and to my family would probably be a much better use of my time.

I had a hard time with affirmations in the beginning. It felt disingenuous to say “I love and accept myself” when I wasn’t really feeling that way. Then I heard someone suggest putting a “what if” in front of the affirmation. So I would say “what if I love and accept myself?” and I would pose it as a question. It helped me to get curious and think about everything. Now I love affirmations and I actually believe what I’m saying.

The other tip I’ve heard is that you have to use an affirmation that resonates with you and that you feel something positive by saying.. like something positive you know is true but don’t normally focus on

What a great video! I am an introvert too. But I know now how to distance myself from toxic relationships. I really believe that we all need to take better care of ourself, without any guilt or shame.

Being an introvert and a minimalist, i totally agree with all the points you mentioned and i followed them all as well.
Self care is essential, I am going through a similar experience. Removing mental blocks, making healthier meal choices, mindful eating. Thank you your wisdom has helped me to refocus 🙏
I would love to see a video on how to get family members (especially my husband) on board with decluttering. He keeps EVERYTHING because he bought it. I don't know how to get him and some of my kids to see how all their stuff is negatively impacting their mental health because I can see it. Thank you for all the helpful videos.

I 👀 yesterday, commenting today.❤ very good video. I especially agree with meal planning- I do a fast simple menu and online grocery shopping each Sunday. I concentrate on simple meals with less processed foods.
This came at the perfect time! My mental health is so bad right now because I had no boundaries and let people take advantage of me.

I'm very communicative, meaning that I can express my ideas well in a confident way (not shy); BUT I'm a introvert, I do NOT feel energized by people, I feel drained. One very important habit that I apply daily is meditation. I meditate 5-10 min in my lunch hour and this completely change my day. I used to feel so drained that I become grumpy and honestly a hard person to be around. Now I make time to "recharge" in small breaks during the day. I also meditate during walks, not listening to any music, just the nature, is also revitalizing.
Lynn here I love my coffee alone and looking at my tree outside of my senior apartment. My husband gets up an hour later. Love my hour alone
Wow I love that quote about boundaries! I feel guilty about saying no and this really helps put it in perspective 😊
This is so great! I loved these tips and the last one is my favourite one as well. I love the idea of simplifying these habits and not putting any more pressure on ourselves to have a perfectly balanced diet or to be the fittest person ever (aspiring to taking more walks around the neigbourhood vs being a gym addict has worked well for me). Another thing is that I hate that most people associate "self-care" with products that are specifically marketed towards us, instead of actions we can take to build a better life.
My chiropractor asked to use me as an example on his website of my positive changes in my pain and body, he says it’s a big result of my positive affirmations as well as eating healthier and focusing on self care. 😊
I definitely have a never ending to do list of things to do in my life
About the sleeping: you need to know how many hours YOU need. And oversleeping can be just as disastrous as undersleeping. For most people, the best is around 8 hours but anyone have to experiment with it until they know their own sweet spot. Good luck and sleep soundly!

They were so sweet - thanks for watching!
Love the video. Thanks for all the reminders, especially about downtime and being around positive people.
I have a request! While I think this is all good advice, it's all things that I've heard before, and the thing that I always want to ask is "but how??" I'm in a particularly exhausting life stage with a toddler and a baby - something like my husband and I going out exercising twice a week is simply not doable, I can't afford outsourcing childcare that often. But what I did discover were mommy-and-me workout videos so that I can still exercise *with* my baby. The baby may not sleep through the night yet, but we figured out a system where my husband and I sleep in separate rooms during this time so that only one of us is "on call" at a time while the other gets proper sleep. I would loooove those sort of practical tips from a fellow mom, I need all the advice I can get 😊
I am sleep deprived from a newborn, but definitely am doing my best to have self care. . . so much to do though. haha. Usually I sleep 7-8 hours. I forgot how tough the newborn stage was. At least I know it will pass in time. As an extrovert who has made so many friends and puts trust into people easily, I have a hard time to trust these days now too because I don't take rejection too well. Anyway good video
I love your videos so much, thank you so much for making them! You're so inspirational and calming :)
I didn't see yester day😢 but watched today! One of my favorite quotes is " don't mistake my kindness for weakness..." ❤ watching and learning from you!

I used a different food order service, but so glad I did. I learned a lot about cooking healthy as well as meal prep. I loved the feeling of being a 'chef'.

I see it. Thank you for this video! Helpful reminder to prioritize self care.
I need to make this a priority instead of checking off the boxes and rewarding myself at the end. It should be the first thing.
All great points. I appreciate this video ❤

❤thanks to your advise I have cleaned up my basement out of 5 years of junk stuff. The things that were lying somewhere in the corner unused, found a new owner. It made me so Happy to See other People Happy with my ,,old stuff". The Basement looks better now, although there is so much more to do... But it is No longer so overwhelming like it was before. Now I have a new tactic: it took me 3 times per hour, everday... And the results are amazing. I used to order Hellofresh. It is good und Heathy and the price is good, you dont worry about what to Cook next, Shopping and wasting Food. But since my favorite Shop opened right around the corner, I buy my groceries there. Thanks to Hellofresh I have learned how to Cook some many dishes...

I always write my own, because they're more personal 😊
I would be looking forward to a video about HSP. It’s difficult to stay focused and set boundaries, especially when I find myself in sad & tragic situations. I’m easily traumatised by other people’s ruthless behaviour - then it’s difficult to defend myself. Last Thursday a little bird had flown against the veranda window, 24 hours later after resting safely in a cardboard box, he still couldn’t fly (I love birds and we feed). A woman wanted to take care of him (caretaker of birds) but she told me I was supposed to bring him first to a specific veterinarian to get checked - and only if that female veterinarian would confirm that the damage can be healed, only then I could bring the bird to that woman. The female vet turned out to be an awful person, talking aggressively non-stop at me, and she said that bird had too many injuries and she insisted that the young bird had to be euthanised. She talked aggressively at me for almost 1 hour - while I was crying the whole time. It was too overwhelming for me. And now I cannot forgive myself for having left the little bird at the vet (where it was finally euthanised). It was a young song thrush, I can’t stop crying for days… I wanted the bird to live and the vet didn’t do an x-ray either (possibly the vet was wrong), but that tragic situation had overwhelmed me. Being too emotional in the wrong circumstances can cause big problems. I don’t forgive myself for not having the taken the bird with me, I wanted the bird to live. I know I didn’t act properly while I was so sad in tears and crying. How can I prevent that in the future. I don’t forgive myself for not having saved the bird’s life. Do you have some advice?
@nancyneyedly4587
Жыл бұрын
This sounds very distressing. Unfortunately there is no way of knowing now if this vet, though mean, was actually correct in her diagnoses of the bird. Going forward you need to be the one in control of your situations and not be guided by others who make you uncomfortable. In a situation like this you could have stopped the vet, and said thank you for your advice, but I am leaving for another opinion. Perhaps another kinder vet would have said the same thing and the bird may not have made it, but maybe it would have been explained in a kinder way. Lesson here is if you don't like how someone is behaving do not entertain them any longer.

I'm so sorry you experienced that situation. You had such a good desire to help the poor bird. The vet's behavior was terrible, and I hope you will realize that you let yourself endure it because you were helping the bird. I've read that if a bird doesn't recover fairly quickly, it is unlikely to recover at all, so while the vet is bad with people, she was likely correct about the bird, and she ended its suffering, so I hope you can work through the trauma she caused you, at least knowing she took the best action available for the bird. You took care of the bird, and now you need to take care of yourself by reassuring yourself that you did do everything you could for the bird, even sacrificing your comfort to endure the vet's awful behavior, all to help the bird.
Great advice! Love your videos ❤ 🚪

I see it!
👀 I honestly couldn't tell you if i watched this yet, I think I did tho. I am a constant rewatcher and tend to jump all around. Regardless, I watching it now!!
I feel like I have a poor relationship with movement. With exercise as well because I typically don't get up and do a lot of things unless it's cleaning the house and cleaning for so many people gives me depression. So the negative emotions I feel toward moving to do what others need me to do instead of things for myself has led me to be wary of any sort of movement. Whenever I'm done doing all of the things for others I just like to relax in one spot. Most of the time that includes sleep. I have a difficult time setting the boundaries that I need and when I do set boundaries people don't like it because they're not used to it. I have been learning about boundaries on Instagram and KZread from other people who have been through what I have been through. It still doesn't make it easy but trying is important. The conversation on food is interesting as I do not know how to cook very many things and sometimes mess up the things that I do know how to make. 😅 I've also had a very deep fear of the oven. I've been burned before. One time I accidentally reached in with the hand I didn't have the pot holder on and I was young so it did not bode well. There are just so many poor situations. But I am slowly hopeful to overcome these things.
I saw it!
