8 Signs You're Way Smarter Than People Around

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

What being smart means. Intelligence is something rather different from being good at exams or memorizing history books by heart. And if you have just a couple of friends, if you frequently seem lonely, or if you’re a perfectionist, the chances are high that you’re simply smarter than the people who surround you.
TIMESTAMPS:
You enjoy loneliness 1:10
You feel pressured 4:07
You often daydream 4:53
You're open-minded 5:40
Your self-control is exceptional 6:24
Your indecisiveness stems from overanalyzing 7:13
You often feel dissatisfied or unhappy 7:55
You connect concepts that seem unrelated 8:54

SUMMARY:
- If you or other people in your life prefer being alone, this doesn't necessarily mean loneliness. Sometimes it's just a sign of greater intelligence.
- Smart people often see and realize things that the people around them can't comprehend. That's why they know for sure where their life should head.
- Daydreaming might not be a distracting habit but a sign of high intelligence. In their study, psychologists from the Georgia Institute of Technology drew a connection between daydreaming and the efficiency and strength of a person's brain.
- Highly intelligent people never close themselves off if they come across new ideas or unusual opportunities. They tend to look for alternative solutions and consider the views of other people.
- Another thing that makes smart people stand out in a crowd is their ability to overcome impulsiveness. They tend to plan their actions, clarify their goals, explore different strategies, and think about consequences.
- Highly intelligent people need to know all the pros and cons before they make a decision. But at the same time, the more they analyze, the less likely they are to act.
- For some smart people, their intelligence turns out to be a curse. They simply don't fit in and sometimes wonder about the truthfulness of the expression “ignorance is bliss.”
- Smart people can see patterns nobody else pays attention to. This happens due to their ability to draw parallels.

I always thought that I'm mad when I over analyse and day dreaming and finding more connections among things is what now reveals with evidence that I'm smart too. Thank you so much :) for the evidences and the feeling of smartness for me :)

Very true! For example, my dad is an electrical engineer. He has worked at Boeing, Motorola, Texas Instruments, and currently, works for another Tier one company. (Their main customer is Apple.) Anyways, he and the majority of his colleagues are all super laid back and humble. One thing I have noticed about most truly successful people is that they don't have anything to prove and never brag, correct, or talk down to others. Also, they pursued something they truly enjoyed so they love to work.

I find communication and inability to comprehend what I am saying is the biggest challenge...because people will swear they understand...and yet so painfully they do not. They hear your words but somehow they keep building the wrong pictures with them, even when you're precise with your language, it feels like it has the opposite result in the end. It very much reminds me of the story of Tantalus, except with social interactions instead of food and water...And that is a far better analogy than used in video for strange connections intelligent people make between seemingly unrelated things. Or another way to put it is...I feel like a dog in a society of wolves...genetically same species yet vastly different and not very compatible socially.

@New Vorld Sounds You don't have to change the world to qualify as someone unique. Being unique isn't something tied to your achievements or your successes, it's something granted to everyone. And leaders don't have to be different. They have to serve their followers, and they have to respect the individuality of each one. Leaders who claim to be unique are separating themselves from the people they lead. They're boasting their superiority in an attempt to make their followers feel inferior and common because they lack the "uniqueness" that only they possess. To be a true leader, you have to realize that everyone is different, and that you are not special. One of the qualities a leader should possess is humility. Knowing your weaknesses is the first step to changing them. Every single person is just as unique as you are, even if they've done nothing important with their lives. A leader is chosen by his people. And people are not mindless drones who lack individuality. They'll only choose a leader who puts the people first and himself second. This means stepping down from the pedestal you've created for yourself because you've somehow gotten the idea that people who don't strive for success, are inferior and common.

@@realsteverioux That's incorrect attribution. The adage has numerous origins; ultimately taking its most popular form from Charles Stewart's 1901 autobiography quoting history scholar Henry Thomas Buckle: "Men and women range themselves into three classes or orders of intelligence; you can tell the lowest class by their habit of always talking about persons; the next by the fact that their habit is always to converse about things; the highest by their preference for the discussion of ideas." After decades of social circulation, it was arbitrarily ascribed to Eleanor Roosevelt by a Kansas newspaper in 1987. Henry Thomas Buckle is the earliest recorded originator of the whole phrase. Fitting. An aristocrat isn't any more wise than an academic is bureaucratic.

I am a lifelong student and take all sorts of classes with no clear end goal except for History which I hope to get a PhD in. It takes me longer to get it because I have a disability that takes constant treatments /hospitalizations. I have met the wisest intelligent people who have little to no formal schooling, people who are homeless and/or addicts, etc and not around other academics such as when I was a teacher and a TA at a university.

Not necessarily true. I am what is called an Introvert. I spend most of my time alone and appreciate my alone time greatly. I only voice my opinion when I think it is needed. Like now. I work in the trucking business and while I'm driving, my mind is calculating very different scenarios. I find that I can drive long distances and still maintain my mental health. I am a perfectionist when it comes to certain aspects of my job too. When I'm alone and I get bored, I usually tend to think of new ideas I can put into motion to make my life better. I socialize very little and can't really stand "small talk." If you want to talk, have a reason to talk. Just because I haven't seen you in 20 years or more doesn't mean we have to talk. If that much time is long gone, maybe there was a reason we didn't talk at all.

This is actually not entirely true. People that score higher in openness to experience (the personality trait with the highest correlation to intelligence) tend to rate themselves and their ideas as more intelligent than average. They may doubt themselves at times it acknowledge shortcomings, but they generally tend to think of themselves as intelligent. At any rate, this is one of the problems in psychology. So much of this research is not replicable and many different findings seemingly contradict other findings. I wouldn't completely disregard it, but I'd take some of this research with a grain of salt

It definitely depends on what area one's highest intelligence or innate talents lies. Some incredibly smart people like having company around, just not a whole bunch of people and they usually prefer to have only a couple or so close friends. Also, people with higher than average or extremely high intelligence prefer to have meaningful conversations over idle chit-chat.

That said I feel like I have to pretend to be ignorant about things and talk about things that are very superficial. I try to balance being with people and being by myself. If an artistic idea comes to my mind, I need to exclude myself from the group to attend with my idea so that I don't forget it. Other than that, I like being around people who know what they're talking about and who knows their stuff. I like educated people because that's how I learn. I don't like people who don't like to read, or people who think they know it all. I use my intelligence to help and inspire people. I love learning different things even if I don't get it at first. I don't like the word "genius" because that word is too far of a stretch for me but I just have my own ways of solving problems and taking on difficult challenges. The world is my school and I will never stop learning and growing.

The Dunning Kruger effect and the people around me makes my life insane. I can only imagine how someone like Einstein filled around everyone else.
