8 Signs You Are Smarter Than You Think

Do you ever wonder if you are intelligent? According to the Dunning-Kruger Effect, intelligent people tend to underestimate their own intelligence as they are more aware of their own weaknesses. As different people display different levels of Intelligence Quotient (IQ) and Emotional Intelligence Quotient (EQ), here are certain signs that relate to higher levels of IQ and EQ.

I relate to 1, 2, 5, and 7. A LOT of these are heavily affected by ADHD, especially the ones dealing with emotion. A lot of people with ADHD experience emotion dysregulation, which basically means knee-jerk, overly intense reactions right off the bat, which sometimes don’t make sense in that context, and also not being able to tell that you are over-reacting until much later. Like when I was trying to study for CLEP exams, I literally started bawling my eyes out because the video instructor for the exam had really crappy handwriting and I could understand anything that he was writing

I'd expect that as this cannel is all about mental health and lots of people fail at kmowing what they are good at, notice it doesn't say anything resembling "signs that you are smarter than most people" but instead "signs that you are smarter then YOU think", the point is to value our own capacities, as they are the only tools we have been given for our lives. You cant screw a nail with a hammer.

Not feeling smarter than "average" is not what the Dunning-Kruger effect says. Very smart people do know that they are, but think of how amny things they know they do not know. They will often (not always) underestimate their abilities, but that does not mean that they think they are average. 😍 This is a major flaw in the video lecture. The rest is good.

@@54356776 Yes and no. It shows that people who overestimated their abilities and underestimate their abilities fall on opposite sides of intelligence and expertise. In other words, if you know little, you may well say you did better on a test, because you don't know yet the extent of the problem, and if you say you did a bit worse than you did, you may know some of how much more there is to know and skills left to gain. However, not only is it not everyone who does this, it is not true that excellently skilled people put themselves at *average*. That was my point. 😍

I was tested in the 140s IQ range when I was a kid. I started school a year early early, and was nearly skipped another grade on top of that. College was easy for me, and I'm one that has a cool head in emergencies. Reading people isn't hard, either. I'm great at writing and photography, because I use my analytical skills for both. I never stop learning; literature, the sciences, history, languages... For me, it's all about observation and curiosity. The problem is, I do it so much that I'm disconnected from those around me. I've been diagnosed with Schizoid Personality Order and Depression, and spend my time isolated. I have no relationships. I love traveling and experiencing new things, but I don't emotionally connect with people. The fact that I don't have any true passion or direction in life despite all I've done greatly bothers me. This is a huge blind spot, and I don't know how to fix it. Also, I fall short in several subjects. For example, I don't know anything involving the technical aspects of music, no do I have any talent for it. Same goes with anything involving astrophysics, aeronautics, oceanography, sailing, spelunking, pottery, medicine... My coordination is average at best, and I haven't played any sports since college. Math is decent, but Calculus was a real headache. There are innumerable parts of history that I still haven't covered yet; I want to focus more on Asian history and philosophy to learn more about my heritage. I'm trying to teach myself Mandarin right now, but it's much, _much_ harder than European languages due to the sheer amount of differences and emphasis on tones. All I can do is keep studying, learning, and applying whatever I can. But now that I'm getting older, it may be necessary for me to narrow down my field of interests to maybe 3 or 4, and specialize from there. I wish I could go back to college and earn a doctorate, but it's so ridiculously expensive now. Regardless, my username isn't just for show; I really do intend to be polymath.

I feel like I have most of these traits, 1. I understand most people and their emotions, I've always been fascinated with emotions and what it does to people 2. I've never seen myself as a smart or intelligent person because I've never been the best at my school 3. I am pretty creative, I always make up many stories in my head, even though I feel like the stories I make are so stupid 4. I love learning, I feel like I'm the only one, who genuinely loves learning most of the time, of course I have my bad days where I hate learning but most of the time, I love it 5. I'm mostly open minded, I don't really judge as long no one is getting hurt, a lot of my classmates aren't as open minded because of religious reasons and even though it hurts me I understand their reasons and much rather let everyone be happy with their beliefs then impulsively get mad because they don't see things like I do, which brings me to number 6. I feel like I'm proactive( I'm not sure though, probably not) whenever I get into a fight on the internet I don't just react and start shouting and swearing uncontrollably (like most people I've seen) I read through their reasons and answers politely cause I don't want to shout at someone who I don't know, cause that's irrational and unnecessary to me, but who knows maybe I'm not intelligent at all maybe I'm just stupid like everyone else or maybe I am intelligent, doesn't really matter to me 😁😃

Maybe try to find out what triggers her anxiety, and duve deep into it (but while doing it do not act like "there is something to worry about that. Why are you anxious about that?") Overall, just listen to her and try not to make her feel like she is stupid or weird for feeling that way. Hipe it will help😊

i agree with everything you said except number 6. Because i think that pride is important and if you appologize when the other person is suppossed to, then they might either belittle (gradually with actions/ makes fun of you for anything) and/or you are are lowering yourself to appologize for something you didnt do, aka lying to yourself. on the other hand, if its your mom or a very close friend etc. and the problem isnt too much of a big deal, i think i'd prob apologize depending on the case. just wanted to share my opinion :)
