8 Regrets From My First Engineering Job

The first 1,000 people to use the link will get a 1-month free trial of Skillshare: skl.sh/tamershaheen01231
As you may already know, for reasons out of my control and even my company’s control, I lost my first-ever full-time engineering job due to the recession that we’re in. I was sad at first, but I’m over it now, and I’m just job-hunting for the next one! But looking back, there are a few things I wish I had done differently. Timestamps are as follows:
00:00 Intro
00:09 Be “Open to Work”
01:12 Take a TON of pictures of Everything
02:10 During Tough Time, It’s Every Man for Himself
03:07 Setting Boundaries
04:53 The Benefit of Hybrid Work
06:53 Overcommunicate
07:30 Don’t Fall into the Pit of Meetings
08:15 Time-Blocking
P.S. I know I uploaded a video similar to this yesterday, but there were some mistakes in it, so I had to re-edit and re-upload :)

I am a student right now at the technical university studying Biotech and every video you post is so insightful to the things that are real life. You show huge amount of useful information and literally simplify things that we (students) would be stuck on otherwise. That is unpleasant that everything came out that way with u, but I’m sure you’ll find ur new p job as captivating as ur previous one if haven’t yet :) Good luck and take care!

Im egyptian too and its great to find someone like me succeed and have a similiar goal like mine mashallah. Great work bro ur an inspiration!

Great video. Personally as a design engineer with 2 young kids (ones a baby), and i think i may also have some sort of undiagnosed ADD...i hate working from home and im literally so unproductive, it gives me guilt. Id much rather be in an office around other co workers to soak up information, collaborate, and socialise, letalone getting my hands dirty on the shop floor/workshop.

Do you have graduate schemes over in the states? Have you considered one? It’s a little concerning that you are having employment issues given how good your resume is. With the skill set you have along with the projects you’ve completed and experienced gained via internships it’s just unbelievable companies aren’t snapping you up. Hopefully in the U.K. the market is a lot better when I graduate. Having said all this, in your first job you was making over $100k. Which is incredible. My first job on a graduate scheme will be around $32k (£28k)

I’m currently working as a Mercedes technician at 20 years old. Also I live with my parents. I’m gonna get my AA in mechanical engineering in summer but once I get to university I don’t know how im going to balance full time and school. Im making really good money too so letting go of this trade would be tough. But in the end I would like to be an engineer. Advice?

  • @Oramosengr

    @Oramosengr

    Жыл бұрын

Best advice is iPad. Yes it may seem more tiring. Especially if you are an engineer because you WILL be changing colors and perfecting things. But iPad notes are way easier to find when you are in your senior year and reviewing a class from the year before. No notebooks or papers!! You can find answers so so fast! Honestly put me above par my senior year. Don’t get me started on pdf textbooks. Yeah. Saved so much time rather than flipping pages. Search is the best!!
