ABOUT VEDANTA
Vedanta is one of the world’s most ancient religious philosophies and one of its broadest. Based on the Vedas, the sacred scriptures of India, Vedanta affirms the oneness of existence, the divinity of the soul, and the harmony of religions.
ABOUT US
Vedanta Society of New York is affiliated with the Ramakrishna Order of India. In fact, this is the Order's first Center started by Swami Vivekananda, in 1894. It was a historic event, for the seed of the world-wide Ramakrishna Movement was sown here in New York over a century ago. Swami Sarvapriyananda is the present Resident Minister and Spiritual Leader of the Vedanta Society of New York.

Mandukya Upanishad itself is the gem among Upanishads. It is a great meritorious event to be hearing it from this most brilliant and eloquent of the present generation of Swamis. Let’s “feel” that teaching as a Reality in our life and not merely as a beautiful doctrine that enthralls our minds. For that to happen we have to look at the three states of life and discard what is transitory and accept only that which is changeless, because in all these years of our lives, only thing that hasn’t changed is our experience of ‘l’. Body and mind vanish in sleep, but in dream another body and another mind appear. Appear to whom? To ‘me’ of course! Well, if ‘me’ of waking wasn’t there during dream, who witnessed the dream and is telling about it now, while waking? Thus we know that during all the states the unchanging witness that is present as Turia of this Upanishad is my real nature. I, as the witnessing consciousness, Turia , am the reality in which the states appear and disappear. During deep sleep, my mind and body as well as the world are absent in my awareness, but I, as the witnessing awareness am present to say, after waking, I slept well. As Turia I am immortal, but as body-mind complex, I am a mere mortal. Jnana is dawning of this understanding firmly in the mind because, ignorance is in the mind and it has to be removed from there. This is the gist of Swamiji’s teaching, as I have understood it. 🙏

Indeed this is the highest teaching in spiritual realms. I have learnt material that would have taken many many life times to know. May you be blessed swami sarvapriyananda, you're my Guru and the cherished desire of liberation is sure❤❤❤❤ no return to samsara any longer. How we have lived a false life, living hypnotized and there's no hope out of this bondage without a guru

Pranam Swamiji, so far as we know Eklavya was the only disciple of Dronachary learning while keeping away from him, but I am sure you are having thousands of such disciples whom you may not know and still you are their Guru. One such disciple I am myself. Charan sparsh.

The mind is filled with ignorance. Ignorance causes one to see the Self as a universe, world, body, mind, intellect, ego, thought, feeling, emotions, ideas, experiences, memories, sensations, perception, conception, time, space, objectivity, etc. Advaita Vedanta reveals that Brahman is real, the world (objects) are appearances, and we are Brahman. One without a second. Is this so Swami Ji?🙏🙏🙏🙏

That means swamiji ,that we are forever stuck with the 3 states,as it is the nature of the turia? Enlightenment means to know this fact and to enjoy the 3 states like a movie ? Isint that the basic difficulty we are facing?.what is the way to become nirguna brahman. How to be devoid of maya and be pure conciousness

My mananam - If you are only interested in turiya, then why waste time on the 3 avastha? The answer is - ‘there is no other way’. The real appears as the unreal; and only unreal appears; and only that which appears can be studied; so we have to study the appearances. Turiya appears to everyone as the 3 avastha, so everyone can reach turiya via the 3 avastha. The shortest method to study gold is to pick up the nearest gold jewels within reach. In Advaita, the atma jnana can only be pointed out, it cannot be said as in described. There is the experience always, but the experience is not recognized, thus a pointing out is needed like “that one is john”.
