Lin Manuel Miranda wanted the actors in the musical to look like the different races of people who immigrate to American to show kids that this musical is all of ours story. While most of the people who work with Hamilton were mostly from white. There were Black people who fought in the war.

KingBardOG just a coincidence, don’t read into like that, people tend to make things racist when they aren’t. Remember, Madison, Jefferson, and Burr, are technically antagonists, and they’re played by black men.

Or...there’s a decent amount of rapping/hip hop in the play and which race do you think has the best skills for that?

Lin’s depiction of George Washington is perfect in my opinion. He really emphasizes his calm and humble nature which was a core component of his character.

And Chris Jackson's depiction of Washington deserves a special nod for not only killing it with the vocals, but for his subtle "bow of shame" during "Who Lives, Who Dies, Who Tells Your Story." When Eliza brings up the Washington Monument, Jackson steps up with pride, but when Eliza immediately follows with "speaking out against slavery," Jackson's face wrinkles with remorse and nods both in shame and agreement, acknowledging Washington's history of slavery and his late (and somewhat half-hearted) decision to ensure that his slaves would freed... 10 YEARS after his death. Jackson did quite a bit of extra research to play the role of a founding father, and he recalls encountering some of the more grisly details that schoolbooks tend to neglect, like how Washington's teeth weren't "wooden," but were in fact pulled from slaves to be used as dentures, and he wanted to somehow add some nuance to the otherwise legendary general and President.

The actors are those races in the musical so that is why they are drawn this way in the animations

According to legend Hamilton was actually asked for via an advertisement in the Philadelphia gazette by Washington himself. Hamilton traveled to Boston to the union oyster house which still stands today. The two shared a very meaningful conversation that lasted the entire night. Hamilton was offered the secretary job at the end which he accepted. He did most of the writing for Washington until the duel in the camp. Hamilton returns at the siege of Yorktown as a elevated rank battlefield captain hitting two fortifications of the British and not getting hit by muskets. When the war ends he discards the soldier personality and goes into the continental congress as a senator working hard to better life in the newly free America.

I like how Aaron Burr's admiration of Washington's tactic of "firing on the British from a distance" is implicitly rebuked later on in Yorktown, where one of their keys to victory revolved around Hamilton decision to "take the bullets out [their] guns" and instead engage in hand-to-hand combat. It's such a nice, subtle detail that makes you wonder what would have happened if the more conventional and cautious Burr was in Hamilton's position that night.

I'm way late on this but regarding your 'real rappers' comment (which I do understand),,, Daveed Diggs (Lafayette&Jefferson actor) is a rapper in a group called Clipping and he is an absolutely phenomenal rapper and performer. It's a little experimental and not for everyone but if you wanted a wider taste of his repertoire there is that. Also I believe Lin Manuel Miranda, Chris Jackson (Washington) and Daveed were in a freestyle/improv rapping group called Freestyle Love Supreme for a number of years, so in no way are these guys not proper rappers. I understand you probably meant more 'mainstream' rappers, like Eminem, Snoop Dogg, or Jay-Z, I just think the talents of these guys are just as incredible ❤ I'm loving your reactions!! Just a small thing

Plays/musicals usually do open and blind casting, so they often play around with race and gender. It's only really movies/tv shows that are more rigid when it comes to casting, but it's becoming a more common practice to adopt theatre culture with casting for movie/tv roles.
