Having seen behind the curtain, working on Revenge of the Sith, I can safely say that "Star Wars was saved in the edit".

No, any of the movies beyond the original 3 were ruined by the writters and decision makers.

Watching American Beauty in the theater, I sat there thinking, "Those two are absolutely going to prison for killing Spacey, even though they didn't do it." They took out the trial, but left in the foreshadowing. Also, I missed the prelude, where Spacey says he's going to die, and still was thinking, "He's totally dead," by 10 minutes in. It's just proof of how well the film was made.

It's weird that the wife wouldn't be the top suspect, unless Ricky's dad planted the gun and contacted the police.

@@Bostonnick34 Except when the kids were messing around in her room, and Ricky had his camera, he recorded her asking him to kill her dad, and he agrees. Then he turns the camera off before she says she's just kidding. Between that *and* having access to the gun...

@@johnbradley1139 It would take a lot of what-ifs for the police to discover any of that evidence. There is a reason domestic misdemeanors will cause you to flunk a background check, far more often than not, the spouse did it. She owns a firearm of the same caliber and there is clear motive with witnesses.

@@Bostonnick34 He was taping when the shot was fired, so he'd still have the camera on him. And rifling marks would pretty easily ID which gun fired the bullet. Sure, in real life it's more likely that suspicion would fall on the wife. But in movie world, where good writers and directrors don't show the audience anything they don't expect to pay off, the only reason to show that conversation being videotaped, right before he's murdered, is to set up a reason to convict them.

Come on, WC. You dropped the ball in this one, and I’m sure I’m not the only one to point out this flub. While editing might have come into play to save Jaws, it was the fact that “Bruce” continually malfunctioned not the shark looked fake.

You forgot an important one: the original ending kills its lead character; Clerks. Director Kevin Smith and his editor, uh, Kevin Smith decided that the downer ending, where Danté is shot by a random thief, didn't ultimately fit the tone of the rest of the movie. I personally think that if he had gone that route, we might have never gotten most of the rest of the View Askewniverse.

Thank goodness Smith never again toyed with the idea of casting a downer over a comedy movie by killing Dante!

The men in black edit makes more sense with the autopsy scene. If they were both arquillians, why were the bodies not equally mysterious. One had a strange bonestructure, the other had missing organs, but neither had the same curiosities as the other.

The Crow was completely save in editing. There are a ton of scenes that wouldn't have been as impactful as originally envisioned. And a subplot with the Skull Cowboy that would have taken away from the ending.

@8:13 . . . "the Arilans are in fact tiny little aliens living inside . . . human suits." Why not just "tiny" aliens, or just "little" aliens? Why use two ("tiny little") adjectives when using just one ("tiny") would suffice? On the scale of size, isn't "tiny" smaller than "little", so why use both? Using the one-word adjective "tiny" to describe how small something is is more effective than using two adjectives ("tiny little"). Using "little" with "tiny" is redundant and weakens the power of the one-word adjective "tiny".
